    Emergers

Boy howdy, like mastercard, don't leave home without the fly Jeff is refering to.
  5. You can wade anything up to 722. Just depends "where" in the parking lot you wish to stand. 704 leaves several options on both banks. 708, not so much.
  6. all of the longboats at loz is buying it up on the weekends.
  7. Anything that takes you off the water for a month is not good. Hope you have a speedy recovery.
  8. Sorry, forgot to say thanks for the pics Brian
  9. If only it was 4 feet higher, it would block headlights. Some rather rude and unconcious anglers have a habit of rolling in, leaving their lights on, and walking down to gander at the creek. It spooks the fish and you can watch them leave wakes as they retreat from the area that is being illuminated.
  10. I'm thinking that the "patches" phased out the "buttons or pins" around 1978. Trout parks use to give buttons up to about 77 or 78.
  11. That picture goes way back Phil. One of the first big browns that I witnessed caught there, was caught on roe by one of the old timers named Russ. Did you ever stop by Fall Creek Resort and get a lunker button for any of the fish you caught? Back then we had to have those braggin right buttons. Great picture Phil.
  12. Retired in jan 2012. My youngest ask me if I missed working like I had done for the past 38 yrs? I said "not in the least, if I had know it was this easy, I would have done it in 2011." I do alot of fishing, but not much catching these days. Love every minute of it.
  13. Well duckydoty, I have never actually caught any from the river proper, but I have caught several browns that have moved into the spring branch, "zone 3", from the river. Only 3 over 10lb, but several in the 4 to 9 lb range. These big fish are too hard to locate in the river. Like the current, there are several undercut banks for them to hide. I could count on one hand the number of big browns that I have found in the river. They see you and they are gone.
  14. nope, catfish
  15. The old timers used cotton seed cake, don't even know if it is still available anymore. It was cut into squares with a hole drilled in the center. Lots of seventy and eighty lb blues caught on ithis bait years back.

    Cityfied

I was told of one being trapped in morgan county near the amish community. Can't think of that little town outside of versailles. I also have first hand knowledge of one in cole county. It lived amongst the city folks on lincoln university campus.
  17. Wow, some nice bass. Trav always said taney had some good largemouth.
  18. You have a right to be proud.Congrats to the capitan. Will we see you on deadliest catch?
  19. I was talking to the local agent here at loz a few years back. If I understood him correctly, he indicated that an occasional muskie is found in truman. Back in the 60's and 70's, when loz had a few muskie, most headed to the rivers.
  20. A buddy ask this question, so I thought I would put it out there for some response. Lets say you catch a bass at the 10mm of the big niangua, throw him in the live well and haul him to the 3mm of the glaize. After weigh-in, you release him. What happens to that fish? Does he swim back to the Big N, or stay put with the 30 other relocated fish? Lets say there are 2 tourneys each weekend, and another 10 fish from the Big N are relocated. After several weekends and a few years down the road, what replaces those keeper size fish in the same amount of time that they are being removed? The Big N is a small body of water with several fish being relocated on a weekly basis. I would venture to guess that 70% of the fish caught during tournaments on loz, are released on the glaize arm of the lake. How is this affecting the overall health and population of a lake? Are tournament fishermen shooting themselves in the foot?
  21. A keeper indeed Duane, congratulations.
  22. I have used SA reels since way back when. You cant wear them out or make them fail when a big fish is attached. I sure hope orvis does not try to make them "better". Luckily I own enough to last the rest of my lifetime. Thx to Jeff Tief, I have a brand spankin new one that is just beggin to be broke in on a taneycomo lunker.
  23. Glad you made it out and about there, brittsnbirds. Found about the same results four hollers south of where you were at. I continue to catch a few stragglers coming in to spawn off my seawall. Using the long rod still, on friday caught 5, saturday caught 21 and kept a nice limit for the fryer, on sunday caught 14 more. My wife and nephew were catching them off the dock at 11 to 12 feet on sunday as well. This morning I have caught 7 more seawall stragglers so far. Saturday and sunday, I caught the same 2lb female kentucky, in the same spot, on the same fly. She is in 2.5 ft of water at the base of a stick up, I suspect she is staging for spawn, but cannot see a nest so far. It is always a nice suprise to catch them rough fish while chasing crappie.
  24. Wow, never got into them like that. I use to chase them every spring, 15 yrs back, around swan and upper bull.
