  1. Dehydrated huh? Can u haul them to AK , or is it one of them state line things?
  2. NIce. Whats the limit on them things?
  3. I have seen mixed reports depending on which arm of the lake you are fishing. But it looks pretty cetain that you will find a few stragglers on the bank and a few more suspended at 8 to 10 feet around docks with 20 feet or less of water. Good luck on your upcoming winter trip this weekend.
  4. It is rumored that elk are attracted to the smell of honey.
  5. Pick 6 flies that consistantly catch fish, carry a dozen of each and sell the rest.
  6. this is what I see here on loz. Groups of 6 to 10 adult shad swimming in a circle right at the bank. Seems as if this normally occurs in late may.
  7. Wow, that is the best picture I have seen lately. Looks as if you got a break from the rain. Rained here all day and into last night. Mattter of fact it rained all friday as well.
  8. Since about 1973, I have witnessed fly fishing for trout increase at an alarming rate. I am talking about the ozarks. Justin made the same reference. The trout parks were the first places to see crowds skyrocket. By 1990, trout parks were overflowing. The fall out did not hit taneycomo until 2002. Daytime and night time crowds increased 10 fold. Dont know how the rest of the country is doing, but the ozarks is overflowing with increased fly fishing pressure on our trout waters. After 2005, the fishing pressure doubled at taneycomo. Trout parks have had a hard time keeping up the quality of fishing they once had. All hope for bssp went out the raceway in 04. Fly fishermen in the ozarks seem to be increasing on a daily basis.
  9. Today fished a little better than yesterday. Some spawning fish have returned overnight and I caught mostly males, but a few females in the mix. Left them all in place in hopes that they will attract some more for tomorrow. Water is starting to clear just a bit. Don't think it rained enough today to make any difference. I know a bunch of people will be out in force for the weekend. Good luck to all.
  10. I grew up wading and flyfishing with my father. We fished every warm water creek and pond in camden county. My first flyrod was a south bend with a perrine reel. I still have it to this day. I first trout fished around 1960. I made three trips to bssp before ever catching a trout. I caught two that day on a brown wooly worm/red tail. Fly fishing has been a most enjoyable life long hobby for me. Thanks Dad! I mainly target trout, but still manage to catch several warm water fish at loz each season using the long rod.
  11. Well I think they are done here. Kdan came by this morning to fish. We caught one keeper, one dink, and one drum. I fished the piers for bass with negative results as well. Water temp was 60. We eventuallly gave up and sat on the patio, drank coffee, and watched the lake flow by. I wonder how long it takes for our water to reach the gulf of mexico?
  12. things are winding down in the pocket water off my seawall. Talked to Kdan last night and he is still catching them one mile farther up.Getting ready to try them again off the seawall. If the crappie are gone, I will try a dalberg diver around the ramp piers. Might get lucky and hook up with a big ole bass. I saw lots of surface activity yesterday. They were chasing shad to the top in this murky water. Good luck guys. I will look forward to more reports tonight.
  13. I grew up fishing creeks and farmponds as well. My dad knew every farm pond in camden county, and owning a tavern it was easy for him to buy a few beers to gain us access to the property. I wish I still had some ponds to fish these days. Things change, ownership changes, and most of the ponds we fished, have since silted in because people just let them go. take the long rod to a pond this time of year, and you never know what you will catch. It will be interesting to see some pics and stories.
  14. Fished the same 100 feet of seawall again today. They must have done their thing and gone. Caught 8 stragglers from 8:30 to 2:30. I am reasonably sure that no one fished my wall after 3:00 yesterday, and for sure not before I did this morning. I left them biting last night after releasing 22 for the day. I caught maybe 30 fish today, all between 7 and 8 inches with the exception of the 8 keeper males. Had one bonus fish early that I was hoping to be a nice walleye. It fought like a walleye and the murky water kept me from seeing it until I slid the net under it. It was a dang ole drum about 7 lbs. Good fight but no walleye fillet tonight. Don't know what's up with all those little fish, I have never seen them stack on the bank before. Good luck to all.
  15. After just posting about the lilacs being late, I look out the back window and see purple on the bushes.
  16. Lilacs and dogwood are late this year, but it is time for the crappie. Like you say, it could be the length of day as opposed to water temp. I think it is around 58 in the little pocket of water that I am fishing. Some of the females were dropping eggs as i took them out of the water. I have seen that occur in trout several times, but this is a first for crappie.
  17. All this past week I did a daily check for any spawning activity. Nothing up to and including sunday evening. Come monday morning it was like they just moved in overnight. Dug out the long rod and caught 30 good keepers in about 5 hours. Kept a limit for the fryer and released a limit. My seawall is only about 125 foot long, and I am catching them in 3 feet of murky water. Windy wet and cold yesterday, but I caught and released 22 more. Monday was mostly males, and tuesday a few females in the mix. I would say by the end of today it will be over with in my area. Headed out shortly to see if the big girls have moved in. Catching them on a white maribou jig, one sixty fourth ounce, 20 inches under an indicator, in 3 feet of water. Seems to be the magic number with the murky water.
  18. You are right Mic, the browns love those five inch rainbows.
  19. I heard the big one escaped from bass pro and is living in the storm water system in ozark. I went by bass pro to look the other day, and sure enough, he is gone.
  20. A family of five use to live near the ditch at tcomo. Several times during the day one would catch a trout out of the ditch and the others would chase and wrestle and make that little mink sound all the way back to the den. Like the blue herons and otters at bssp, they mysteriously disappeared.
  21. No problems with fishermen and their first lunker, or fish of a lifetime keep. That is what trout fishing is all about and always has been in my lifetime. When the same names re-occur on the lunker board, over and over, year after year, then greed and the "look at me" attitude has taken control of their fishing mindset. They are no longer doing it just for enjoyment of the sport. They have a complex or void that needs to be filled, and often as not, leads to the underhanded dealings, snagging cheating etc, as in the recent derby event at montauk. Myself and several others on this forum have witnessed this for years. We could name names but we won't.
  22. You can watch them evin"rude" pros on tv, they can show you the proper way to bounce all your fish off different boat parts and still be alive and well for the next re capture.
  23. Some one mentioned eating Japanese eels. I am not sure of the nationality, but while in the phillipines, I ate some smoked eel that was quite tasty after a half dozen san migel beers. At least they said it was eel, could have been snake for all we knew. Some of their other quisine was rumored to be dog or monkey. I never witnessed a stray dog or a wild monkey the 15 months that I was there.
  24. I have heard tell of american eels caught at loz in the 60's but have never witnessed any. About 10 yrs or so ago, I caught a crappie at loz with a lamprey attached. That same year, I caught two more with the tell tale signs of a lamprey. Since then nothing, and I would assume that is a good thing.
  25. Between mushrooms and turkey, you and marty and the rest are making for some good eats.
