In my book, referring to someone as a "guide" would be a compliment. Who knows, he may not appreciate what taney has to offer.

I would hate to get that bored that catching a lunker was no fun. I have been catching them for 37 yrs and each one is more exciting than the previous.

Hi Gatorjet. I thought originally we were talking about walleye. But if it is trout, then I do not doubt it. This fall, at taney, between the end of july and into november, I had 52 trout between 3.5 and 12.5 lbs. And most were caught on the weekend amongst the crowds.

Walleye were caught on a regular basis back in the fall and winter months of the 70's. I am talking caught by fishermen on the upper water. Nothing for a few years and then about 95 an upswing in the catching once again, and especially after every flood gate event. Micheal Kyle's dad, Gary, {Stubby} caught an 11lb 4oz fish one night back in the late 90's. It is the largest I have witnessed and the largest that I know of.

Glad you got into them. I went to the crappie dock at 3 this afternoon. Caught 11 and like you guys, the fish were at 26 to 30 feet. Bite was lite and their bellies were full.

I have heard that tracking chips were implanted into each elk. That way when they run off, and return to colorado, they will know were they went.

Before the handicap piers, they had angle dams which allowed the water to move on through. Now they have the wing dam which necks the water down to the opposite side. Then they got the bright idea to dredge and create deeper and slower water. This allowed the moss to grow and comsume the stream from the bottom up. The scuds were choked out and the sowbugs took their place. The stream gets so choked out that they now have to mow or cut the moss about 3 times a year. The same thing has occurred at montauk in the area that idlywilde describes. I would say its more about getting rid of the moss that has taken over. You need moss covered rocks for a good insect population, not a choked out stream bottom.

I think they are allowing loz to get to winter pool. For the past week, ameron has been dropping the bottom out of our lake. almost 5 foot down from 2 weeks prior.

I have not been to the creek in years. Does MDC allow the trapping of river otters along crane creek? I keep having these terrible thoughts of a family of otters completely destroying crane creek's population of anything that swims.

With LD involved, I would steer clear and not wear my pork chop suit into the lion's den. He is pretty much bogus in my book. Some of his growing up exploits on the big piney are questionable seeing how he grew up out east somewhere. He copy and pastes articles with his name attached. Just my 2 cents. And like I said in an earlier articles about this issue, don't bring your town hall meeting to my town. You will not be welcome.

Some thing tells me it was right in the nixa, ozark area, maybe the finley or james. The land owner who shot an killed the floater, partier, not sure. Just in the past year or so. He has already gone to trial and sentenced. Don't know how many lives would have been saved, but self defense would go along way and give you a fighting chance. .

Went to the crappie dock today, and between 2 and 3 oclock, I witnessed no less than 30 big bunches of high flying geese, all headed "north". I left at 3 and they were still coming. Is it that time of year that they would fly back north?

The only brook trout in missouri, that I am aware of,are from private streams. Although I did witness one caught at taney by Dick Garrison. A fluke I am sure, but an honest to goodness brook trout about 7 inches long. Arkansas has a growing population of them. That would be your best bet by far. If you are close to highlandville, they have a small population of brooks, maybe 6 fish total, some pushing 3 pounds.

I can rember fishing one of the very first friday strippers . I fished with Micheal Kyle, his dad Stubby, and Tim Young. Micheal, had a new fly that night, and all you had to do was hit the water with it. I must have missed hitting the water several times because I ended up with the fewest amount of fish. I think Leonard and a couple of other rookies were there as well.

Sounds like a good time had by all. I doubt that I would have fished with the lightning and the rain. I have found that it is difficult to cast trying to hold that umbrella over my head, and even harder to land a fish. Hope to join up with guys in the near future. Glad you caught that first taney brown. You did not have very good water conditions for your first trip. 07 to10 really limits you.

Sometimes 6 fish is a good day at taney. How did them feral trout fight drew?

I agree on the log book. I have kept a log book of my lunker trout since 1975. I started it with the very first one, and I have continued ever since. My log tells me the date, which creek, which hole, fly, tippet size, bow or brown, weight, and whether it was kept or released. I have hand written logs plus it is on a spread sheet which makes it a lot easier to access specific data.

Hi Brian, I can tell by your comment that it has been a while since you fished at night. Add bears and the 2 wolves from "predator world" to that list as well.One night I was positive that I had just encountered bigfoot, but it turned out to be Leonard splashing around and attempting to catch fish.
