  1. Outdoor channel will be airing this starting this Saturday afternoon, I think 1 PM Central. It's on Bull, filmed last year in June.
  2. I remember talking to someone I know that has an Ultrex and he was complaining about that shock thing too.
  3. Being retired I can spend my fishing time doing goofy stuff. Today I told myself that I would take pics of the first 10 bass I caught with the Ned rig, focusing on where they were hooked. Today was a day of dinks, caught over 20 of them, but only one keeper. Keepers just vanished today for reasons unknown to me. Not one bass 'gut hooked'. If you don't like seeing pics of dinks with Ned rigs stuck in them, now is the time to exit. BTW, I took 11 pics, lost track. Senior moment.
  4. New product at Tackle Warehouse (I kid you not). Would make a great gag gift for a fishing buddy that does not like Ned rigging.
  5. Must have found either a really good doctor, or some really good meds, or a combination of both.
  6. See that is the problem of NOT owning a boat - you just spend the money on other things.
  7. I hung in there for about 6 minutes. I very rarely gut hook fish with a Ned rig.
  8. Yeah, Ham is a wizard with that Nanofil. I have gone to Seaguar Smackdown braid. I tie an Alberto knot to tie on the leader. Works fine, passes through rod guides OK. But I will check out that knot Mitch mentions above.

I live in a retirement community, see a lot of old people and fish with a few of them, at 62 I'm still considered to be a "young feller". You hardly ever see old fat guys out on the lake, old skinny guys, yes. I want to fish for as long as I can, and to do so, I need to lose some weight. Being old and fat is not good, yeah you might still live a long life, but it's tough to get out and do things. In short, quality of life will probably be better as you age if you keep yourself in reasonable shape.
  10. I'm assuming that there will be one this year. I don't fish it, but if anyone does and hears the results, please post them. I'm always interested in seeing how well the winner does.
  11. Well done!
  12. So that's where all the loons are. I saw only one yesterday. Seeing 30 of them in one spot is something you just don't see - must be a lot of shad (obviously) on that end of the lake. Congrats on a great day!
  13. Those fish are thick, I never see them like that on the upper end. Once they get 'educated' you might want to drop a Ned on them. It will take it a while to get down there, but I bet they would hit it.
  14. Hey, you are always welcome to come over here to BV and do some fishing with me, we can probably catch a bass or two.
  15. Here in Bella Vista the lakes department always plants a bunch of Christmas trees they get from residents. It's a good way to get rid of them, but they tend to have really soft wood and deteriorate quickly. If you got them, might as well use them, but if I wanted to create some longer lasting habitat I'd use cedars or some kind of hard wood.
  16. The fishing today was a bit slower than Christmas Eve. And the fish seemed to be deeper, I don't think I caught one that was in water less than 20 feet deep. Did the chartreuse head Ned rig thing again today, and I caught another keeper smallmouth and keeper walleye on it. Couple of fat spots too. Swimming the Ned rig over deep water was working a little better than dragging it on the bottom. Still fishing around structure, trees, rocky points and steep chunk rock banks. Threw a couple of different jerk baits for a bit too, and never got a bite on them. Nice day to be out, and I was not the only one out there today.
  17. Yeah, we'll get through it. The alarmist stuff annoys me more than the potential consequences. Supposed to be warm tomorrow, I think I'll go fishing.
  18. I usually will fish for them once or twice a year. Never caught as many of those big redears as we did this summer when you came over. Interesting reading some of Bfishin's coments about using freshwater mussels for bait for redears.
  19. Good luck to you and your better half - I hope you whack them!
  20. Merry Christmas everybody! Some great colors in the sky this morning at the launch. So why chartreuse? I have noticed that when I fish small swimbaits like a Keitech that it seems I'll catch more smallies and wallies if I use a chartreuse jig head. Lately when fishing my Ned rigs I have been doing ok on the spots, but can't catch a decent smallmouth. I have some Nutech chartreuse crappie heads in my tackle stash and decided I would give them a shot. Glued on some Dirt colored half Zinkers on a couple of them and took them with me today. Caught 2 nice keeper smallmouth and a couple of walleye. Maybe a coincidence, but I haven't caught a keeper sized smallmouth in a while. Chartreuse seemed to make a difference, but more 'research' is required. Caught some spots too. 17 bass total, 4 keepers. One of the smallmouth really pulled, thought for sure it was either a big walleye or big largemouth - but it wasn't. Still fishing steep banks, rocky points and timber. Who knows where this bank is? Couple of smallmouth: Sir Spot: And a wallie:
  21. Way to go buddy, indeed it was a great day to be out!
  22. Thanks for the heads up!
  23. Ahhh, the old mystery fish that pulls off - I hate that when it happens. I caught a 17 lb. drum up by the dam a couple of years ago on a Ned rig, FWIW. There's crappie in the coves off Indian creek, I never have done much good on them but had a buddy that got into them pretty good a couple of years ago during the spawn. Did you see any striper surface activity?
  24. Just reread your post, and you are right, it is one of the ramps in Viney.
