  1. In August and September the albacore tuna run up the Pacific coast as far north as Washington. You could go on a tuna trip out of Westport WA. The fish were way offshore so the charter boat would leave late in the afternoon and chug all night out to where the tuna were. You'd fish all the next day, then chug back that night. If things went right, they'd literally fill the boat with tuna, and it would just wear people out fighting those things. Never went myself, I can get seasick and nothing would be worse than being on a boat for 36 hours and being sicker than a dog. And in the summer you could buy whole frozen albacore for like a $1/pound at the docks. Albacore is what they use for canned tuna and that's about what it tastes like. Not bad on the grill.
  2. Sounds like a great day, it will be interesting to see how the BPT tournament goes, going to be a lot of spotted bass I think.
  3. Whatever the rules are, if you're out in the middle of the channel on a lake like Table Rock in a hard to see, low to the water kayak, you're in a hazardous situation. You're going to have bass boats, pleasure boats, pontoons (there's a toon in a dock near Emerald Beach with two 300 HP outboards on it) flying by, doesn't matter who has the right of way if you get run over you're going to be in a bad situation. Kayaks are just hard to see no two ways about it.
  4. Thinking about ways to improve fishing isn't "complaining".
  5. You did good to catch 4 keepers up there. Bite has definitely been off this year in Indian. Spots have been weird, last time I was out, I cast to a bass that was chasing shad on top, got a hookup on the top water, that fish came off, worked it back to the boat and had probably 10 spots follow it in, couple of them were decent fish. They spooked off and couldn't get another look from them.
  6. Congrats to you and the grandson!
  7. I pretty much fish the upper White so my observations are what I see there. There are plenty of bass up there, but I'd say at least 70% (that's just an estimate) are spotted bass. I love catching spotted bass on appropriately sized tackle, but I would like to see more largemouth. Since most tourneys originate down lake, the bigger largemouth are going to get hauled to the tourney weigh in sites and they aren't coming back, they're gone from that part of the lake just like they would be if someone filleted them. I do believe that has an impact on the number of sizeable largemouth on the upper end. Stocking largemouth bass on the upper end may help shift the balance towards more LM's, but maybe not, however we'll never know if it is not attempted. I'd also like to see tourney release spread out lake wide rather than concentrated on the lower end. Maybe that means getting some kind of ferry operation going to do a better job of redistributing the fish, especially for the larger tourneys that have hundreds of participants. Something AGFC was doing on the Arkansas river during a big bass tourney held there was giving anglers bags of bass fingerlings, I believe it was 500 per bag, to take with them and release into the river. Anglers seemed to have no problem doing this, in fact it seemed to be very popular with anglers. I certainly believe something has to be done, changes need to happen, there's just too many of us out there putting tremendous pressure on these bass we all love and management techniques that worked 20-30 years ago need to be changed.
  8. Accidents do happen. This turkey fan deal doesn't seem like a good idea to me. https://www.wideopenspaces.com/hunting-accident-kansas-turkey-hunters-shot-while-behind-a-turkey-fan/
  9. Some nice birds for sure. Heard some gobbling while fishing Beaver yesterday.
  10. There are certainly some quality walleye in Beaver.
  11. Yep, I agree, time to go to Catch, photograph and release at least during the spawn and hot part of the summer.
  12. Hard to find a more exciting and fun way to catch fish than a smallies on topwater. Congrats!
  13. It's that time of year. Basscat tourney on Beaver this weekend, I think they fish Thursday - Saturday, I was out on Beaver yesterday up in the dam area and I have never seen so many bass boats in that area of the lake.
  14. Decided to take a shot at targeting walleye today, spend most of the morning fishing points and a few rocky banks throwing a 3.3 Keitech. Caught one walleye that measured 19". Picked up several smallmouth and some whites also, but nothing of exceptional size. Beautiful day to be out fishing, but the fishing was slow. Basscat owner's tournament is in town and there were bass boats all over the place. Surface temp 63.
  15. Got out late today, waited for the rain showers to clear out, ended up launching around 1030 AM. Started out fishing Keitechs around smallmouth banks and points, never found much of a good bite, caught a couple that were around the keeper mark and one dink. Did catch a keeper walleye off a gravel point. Went back into Indian and fished around docks and timber, still slow picked up a couple of 13" spots, and a couple of white bass. Switched out to fishing a 1/16 oz Ned head with a cut Zinker and started to get some consistent bites, but had problems getting them to stay on, they are on nests now and just aren't committing to eating that bait. Managed a few spots and a couple of short smallmouth on the Ned. Decided to go back and fish some main lake points to try and catch another walleye to go with the one in the livewell, usually that doesn't work out like I want it to, but today it did and I caught another keeper sized walter on the Keitech. Caught a little striper that might have been 3 pounds, couldn't get any more walleye bites so called it a day and got off the water about 5 PM. WT 62.

A Duck sighting! Sorry no help from me on the whites.
  17. No it wasn't me, I was kidding around about going to Baxter. I did go over to Beaver today, bass were slow there, but did get a couple of keeper walters.
  18. Yeah other fishermen can certainly be rude to say the least. Couple of weeks ago, early in the morning, water is like glass and I'm half way back in a cove getting some top water action. Haven't seen another boat at all. Hear an outboard running in the distance, it gets closer and around the point and into the cove comes some dude, plows water and goes past me about 50 feet, cuts the motor, deploys a minnow bucket over the side and drops the trolling motor and starts fishing. Not a young guy either, old enough to know better. Didn't say anything to him, I figure if a guy is a jackass at his age then it's a permanent condition, nothing I say will fix it. Plenty of other spots to fish, so I left, certainly don't want to be in the vicinity of a jackass in case it's contagious.
  19. Pulling the boat out of the garage right now, destination - Baxter! Too many good fish being caught there, I can't resist... 😜
  20. Neat colors on that trout!
  21. Where's Baxter? 😄
  22. That's a nice spot!
  23. Congrats on the tourney win!
  24. My neighbor and his son where throwing Wild Eye shads on Beaver for Stripers 2 years ago, they were using small 3-4" ones. They caught something like 30 stripers, one went 35lbs. This was over the course of several weeks in May, not on one trip. Never have thrown them myself for stripers, maybe this year, but if they're on top it's just too much fun to get those blowups.
  25. Got out early, flat calm, threw a top water and had some decent fishing for the first couple of hours walking the dog. Caught a couple dozen on the top water with a few keepers mixed in. The fish were on main channel banks and in the coves, the best bite was over 5 - 10 FOW. Wind kicked up about 10 AM and the top water bite pretty much stopped when that happened. Could not get much going on the Keitech or the shaky head. For the most part the fish looked to be gone from the main lake points that they were on just a couple of days ago. Threw a crank on some windy banks, no touches on it. Wind really started blowing, bite was slow, so I left at 1230. First two casts caught these two fish: Only Keitech keeper:
