  1. Thanks guys, you know what they say - Every dog has his day - I'll probably get skunked next time out. Danger - Those black spots are a pigmentation thing some bass get during the winter. Harmless to them, why it happens, I don't know.
  2. Thanks for the update, yeah I would've thought at least 17 to win.
  3. Thanks for the report. The jerk bait bite seems to be a tough one so far, I can't get bit on one.
  4. Fished from 08:30 until about 2:00 PM. There was a decent bite for a while, some 20 feet deep off 45 degree chunk rock, and I picked up some bass off of pole timber and cedars near cove mouths in 10-20 FOW. As usual, as I was dragging a Texas rigged green pumpkin tube. I'm dragging it real slow, trying to imitate a crawdad slowly walking across the bottom. Sometime in the rocks you have to hop it a little to avoid the hang-ups, then I'll hop it a few inches and let it drop down to the bottom. I caught a dozen bass today, one nice 4.5 lb. fish, and a good proportion of keepers, I'd say 8 between 15-17". One 16.5" meany., a couple of spots, but most were large mouth. Water temps were 42-43. Weather forecast is calling for an extended period of cold weather, so it may be a while before I get back out on the Rock. Don't you just love it when you find a good bite and then the weather goes down the drain? A couple of fish pics: The 4.5 Another meany, I've been picking up one or two of these dudes every trip for a few weeks now and they've been decent sized for a meany. Seems to be more of them for some reason. This guy has those winter black spots. And a nice chunky 16" LM, typical of what I caught today.
  5. Happy new year all!
  6. Yep it is now 2014, how time flies! Happy new year!
  7. And if you make the mistake of subscribing to B.A.S.S. magazine, they'll call you every two weeks to try and get you to extend your subscription. We also had Ike rocket his boat into the trees on the bank last year. Make sure you have a good life jacket.
  8. Congrats, the jerk bait fish are hard to come by so far - and it looks like it made that youngster happy, good job!
  9. Good luck, I may get out myself one more day before the cold front hits us, but I'll be out of Big M.
  10. Fished from 10:00 to 3:00 PM, caught 5 bass, all on the Green Pumpkin tube. Real light biters. Did catch this Mean mouth that was just a hair shy of 3 lbs. on my Boga. Biggest Mean I've caught.
  11. Welcome!
  12. HAHA, I know what you mean. One report from abkeenan that he killed 'em this spring on these things and I'll have 1/2 dozen on order.
  13. Live Target Bait ball lures in stock. Tempting, but I've got so many jerk baits and cranks already. Maybe one of you guys will buy some and let us know if they work. http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Koppers_Live_Target_Glass_Minnow_Baitball_Jerkbait/descpage-KGLAMIN.html#multiview
  14. X2.
  15. How much do those crawgrubbers weigh? They look killer for bass.
  16. Welcome!
  17. That creek bed looks like a potential bass highway.
  18. Pickerel were very common in New England when I lived there, they are very good eating, but as mentioned above, very boney. Ham needs one of those for his 52 species quest.
  19. If they eat squirrels I would be happy to have a few around my house. There's probably some out there, I just haven't seen them. I'm not a quail biologist, but the ones I have talked to all agree it's a habitat issue, not predation.
  20. I think PowerDive put a curse on me. Ever since he said he could "predict" how many bass I would catch, I've been catching around 8 bass per day at the Big M. Yesterday I fished and caught....8 bass...This is getting spooky. I need to get over and fish Swepco, I figure that if I go fish a lake that does not contain walleye, I can remove the Curse of PowerDive. Anyway, 8 bass all on Tubes, one nice 17" smallie, the rest were 12-16" fish. There was a lot of other bassers out there yesterday - I haven't seen that many boats out on the lake since June. Water temp 43-45.
  21. Looks like you had a good time, good to see that the 10 yo boy with that big smile!
  22. Thanks for posting that link.
