  1. yep "lock" your reel and just adjust your drag so that line is pulled out if you snag on a rock or hook a decent fish. I have done quite a bit of trolling and have never broken a rod because of getting hung up. If you get hung up and your drag is set right, it will just pull line off until you get the boat stopped.
  2. So Jeb did you go? Yesterday was a little warmer, but not warm enough for me to even think about it.
  3. I fish Road Runners on Beaver, but I cast them to the bank rather than troll them. I have found that Spotted bass really like them in the spring, and so do the whites. That's a good idea, tying your own, I have not done that yet but when I get some time I might give it a shot. One color I would like to have that Road Runner does not make as far as I can tell, is black, meaning black jig head with a black body. I would also think natural colors in brown and green, kind of like the colors you see in bass jigs would work.
  4. Do they have lots of fishing stuff? Never been inside an Academy.
  5. Low temps in single digits this week, Thursday night supposedly down near zero, Friday, 4 degrees, gotta wonder if there might be a layer of ice forming. Has it ever froze over? I have only lived here three years, but maybe in the past it has. I am ready for spring. Heck, I would be happy with a 45 degree day right now.
  6. Think the Razorbacks can beat East Carolina?
  7. Brrrrr, it's cold this morning, as far as fishing, I might watch a fishing show on TV today in between football games. Good luck on the tourney and somebody please post a report after your fingers thaw out.
  8. It's nice to see a fishing video with no commercials. Thanks!
  9. I hear the walleye are biting, that would be my guess as to what they are fishing for.
  10. Nice pics, looks like a great day out on the lake!
  11. Nice video I liked seeing what was going on on the fishfinder.
  12. Yeah I agree, anything truly hazardous like gasoline shoul dnot have fishing allowed within a reasonable distance.
  13. I'm against it on principle, it's a public lake and the marinas have put their docks on public water. And if it's no fishing, it should be no fishing period on the docks, including the dock owner and friends.
  14. I wonder too, if someone from the board catches one in a few months maybe they could take a pic and post it here.
  15. I noticed that the LM I caught on Beaver Saturday on Beaver were skinny also, which is funny consdiring there were lots of shad around. Maybe they burn lots of calories chasing shad.
  16. I second the Road Runners, spots love them in the spring, white bass too. I think I have caught just about everything that swims on them except for carp. They are a great lure if you like to fish light tackle. Only drawback is they get hung up easy, but then again they aren't expensive.
  17. That is an awesome mount, heck of a fish too, 35 lbs. is nothing to sneeze at.
  18. Excellent! I have some time off this week myself, so I might have to break out the jigs.
  19. I was out yesterday, fished the Piney creek area, a little bit in War Eagle, caught some black bass - nothing real big - and a few nice whites on the Bass Pro version of a Rattle Trap. Best fishing seems to be in the back of coves where the shad are concentrated. Talked to another guy at the Hickory creek ramp and he said he had done well on bass shallow - didn't get any more detail than that, but the fish are biting and you picked a good 4 days to fish.
  20. How does that old song go.. "Puhlease release me, let me go."
  21. That's quite a few blue cats for Beaver lake, I like it.
  22. My granddad used to live in Kennett, back in the 60's he used to fish Reelfoot quite a bit, there's was always lots of crappie, but they were small on average. I hear nowadays it's still pretty good and the crappie are a little bigger on average. My uncle lives in Memphis and still fished it every once and a while and he says it's still good for crappie and bream. Anyway, if you go it will be interesting to hear how you do.
  23. I bet those poachers know it is the deer opener and the Wildlife LE are going to be concentrating on deer hunters.
  24. Cool, thanks for sharing!
  25. I'm a little surprised at the dates this is being held on TR, March 4-6, seems like there's a good possibility it will be a mite chilly out there. It will be interesting to see what the winning strategy will be.
