  1. Speaking of eating bugs....
  2. Did not fish around Portland when I lived out there it was 4 hours from my house and there was lots of fishing available closer to home. If you can get a day to fish and want to go with a guide, there should be some sturgeon (green and white) fishing somewhere around Portland. I don't know any of the guides there, but here's an example: Portland Oregon Sturgeon Fishing - Columbia River Fishing Adventures I used to fish for sturgeon further downstream on the Columbia out of Kalama. Even a rube such as myself could catch 30-40 a day, they used to be pretty abundant. One thing about November in that part of the country is it is the rainy season there, bring your raingear.
  3. There were some big ones cruising around the shallows on one of the local lakes this spring, supposedly they are sterile, but looks to me they at least go through the motions. If you're interested next spring I'll let you know when they are in there, and it you've got a fly they'll eat that would be neat to see you hook one of those submarines in 2-3 feet of water.
  4. Used to use them kokanee fishing in Washington. Couple of maggots and a single red salmon egg on a #12 hook.
  5. I was checking out the state record fish list for Arkansas, and noticed there is a shad known as the "Alabama Shad". Never heard of them until I read that. Record is 2 lbs. 13 oz caught in the Ouchita river in 1997. Apparently they are a species in peril. Alabama shad - Wikipedia
  6. I was wondering where he went myself. Might be on vacation somewhere.
  7. Back to the bear theme:
  8. I think I remember it being an extended auto warranty scam, they'd gladly sell you the coverage, but would not pay out for claims.
  9. I watched a show about that Fidelis scam, I think it was an episode of American Greed.
  10. The Holy Grail of the species quest!
  11. You guys are getting some nice fish!
  12. The handles are a great idea.
  13. For sure, really nice fish.
  14. Fry them in bacon grease.
  15. Mama-mia! That is a great bag!

  17. M&M has applied for the permits, I assume we will get them, but if not we may have to make some changes. Tournament date - Saturday October 16. Start at 0700 (launch anywhere), weigh in at 2 PM Aunts Creek COE park pavilion. We'll have 2 plaques, one for the heaviest 3 bass bag and one for the Biggest Bass. Entry fee $20 per person, all proceeds to go to the Cassville high school fishing team. It is not a team event, individual weights, but you can fish with other participants in the same boat. No dead fish penalty, but please do your best to keep them alive. No A-rigs, bait or trolling. We'll have food at the pavilion, I'll start a who is bringing what thread, you don't have to bring food or drinks, but if you do, we appreciate it. You don't have to fish for bass, you can still come out and meet people at the get together. Please respond to this thread if you plan on attending, I'll keep a list, it's mainly so we can gauge how much food to bring.
  18. Love frog legs. Went once when I was a kid with my grandpa and one of his buddies. They sculled a jon boat down SE MO ditches. Carbide head lamps and gigs, old school, but they filled a cooler with frogs.
  19. Barely keepers. Being mostly a fun fisherman, I'm fine with catching 13 and 14 inchers too. Those little sub 10 inch fish are the ones I don't like, especially if they are on a treble hook lure. Speaking of treble hooks, I have been switching out my top water hooks to Gamakatsu Aaron Martens nano deals. They are some SHARP hooks.
  20. Congrats!
  21. They were coming up chasing shad. They were on a gravel point that you have fished a time or two. Once that sun came up they pretty much stopped.
