  1. There are others on here that are more knowledgeable about their movements, I primarily will only target stripers when they are on top. My personal opinion is that for top water fishing on the dam end, the prime time is all of May into about mid-June. Every year seems to be a little different, I never know what I'll find when I go out looking for them. Get a nice warm May morning with flat water and you can see them from a long ways off when they come up on top. It really helps if you can get out and look for them, usually a good indicator is seeing some guide boats in the area. I would not surprise me to see some stripers around Starkey in April, might be a bit early, but who knows?
  2. I'm still clinging to my antiquated (8 years old) Humminbirds. One of these days I'll probably pull the trigger on an upgrade myself.
  3. Yikes, $20K!
  4. Used to smoke salmon using alder, worked darn well.
  5. My grandma on my mother's side, was raised in a large family in Missouri that were basically farm laborers before, during, and after the Depression. She said growing up that basically what they lived off of was beans and cornbread.
  6. If I knew I could get the mild version, I agree, get it, get over it, and get on with life. Main drawback is that I live in a community with a lot of elderly folks so if I got it I would certainly have to fort up for a while - don't want to spread this stuff. Speaking of pizza, I guess a guy could live off pizza delivery for a couple of weeks, tell them to drop it off on the front porch, leave a 20 out there under the mat.
  7. Had several emails today from various corporations concerning the virus. Thought this line from a PetSmart email was funny: They also recommend those who are sick to avoid any close contact with pets, including kissing and sharing food.
  8. More ridiculousness: The fast food chain announced Friday it would suspend a U.K. ad campaign focused on its famous “finger lickin’ good” slogan in light of the coronavirus pandemic.
  9. I see Ned rig stuff... I'm getting emails from various corporations, along the lines of "We're doing all we can to ensure we are providing a safe environment for out customers". Latest one was from Papa Murphys.
  10. Personally, yes I think we should still carry on with this, but if a bunch of folks want to cancel, then I guess we'll cancel. I'll bring some hand sanitizer...
  11. I agree, this is ridiculous.
  12. Wow, being in high school in the early 70's, I can't recall anything that extreme for kids that got caught smoking the evil weed. Shock therapy was a bad deal, really stupid to administer it to a kid for weed smoking.
  13. Quote from Classic winner Hank Cherry - Now, I think there is a bit of sponsor driven salesmanship going on here, but it does sound realistic. “Thanks to the Garmin ECHOMAP Ultras with the Panoptix up front, I could see really good mapping so it was easy to see the indentions and the out spots on the causeway. With LiveScope, I could actually follow the herds of gizzard shad and I could tell when I would see a fish if it was going to bite or not,” said Cherry. “There were several key fish that I caught that I saw coming to get the bait because it’s happening right there in live action. If you do not have Garmin LiveScope, you are definitely missing out. It was a huge part of my championship run.”
  14. I imagine the electronics makers would fight hard against some kind of ban on Panoptics type finders in the tourneys, especially in the big ones. Interesting read from Blaukat on this subject: https://www.bassmaster.com/randy-blaukat/lets-not-lose-mystery
  15. Yeah gone at the local Walmart here too. Same with hand sanitizer to include any liquid hand soap. Hardly any canned tuna left either.
  16. Curious about the Livescope view. Is that a dock cable, that fuzzy diagonal line? Are those blob like things above the cable in the upper left crappie?
  17. 82 today, be lucky to see 52 air temp Saturday.
  18. SEC just cancelled the rest of the hoops tourney. Just got an email from BPS announcing the annual Classic sale. I'm wondering if that will still go on.
  19. Makes me wonder when things will reopen. This virus will be around for a while. I don't know that the authorities making these shutdown decisions know the answer as to what conditions mark a return to normal.
  20. Fished Tuesday and Wednesday this week. Tuesday fished the upper White on areas on both sides of the 86 bridge in Tom from Eagle Rock's boat. It was tough fishing. Early we caught a couple of keepers throwing jerkbaits on points, Tom caught a 3.5 smallie on a JB that would be the biggest fish we boated. I caught a spot that I didn't weigh, but I bet it was 2.5lbs. But that was it for our JB fish. I fished the Ned quite a bit, caught one keeper smallie and a few short fish. Fished a lot of good looking locations that should've been holding fish, but there just don't seem to be many of them around in that area. Tom got a couple of nice keeper largemouth on a crank on one short stretch of bank. I think we finished up with 16 bass, 5 being keepers. Wednesday I went solo and fished between point 23 and 25. The bite was a little better on the Ned, first fish I caught was a 3 3/4 lb. smallie and that was the big fish for the day for me. Caught 20 total, 5 being keepers. The Ned fish were fairly deep when I started which was late morning as I waited for the storms to clear out before I left the house. Later in the afternoon there was a rush to the bank of smaller fish and I caught some of those dudes in 5 -10 FOW. Not much in the way of shad activity going on in that area. No gulls, no loons. Surface temp was 52 in the main channel in the afternoon, someone told me they saw 54 back in a cove in shallow. First one Wednesday: Last fish of the day - chartreuse head strikes again! And a really fat spot:
  21. Yep, good for him. I always thought, when looking at state records, that there are certainly some that could be broken if a person sets their mind to it.
  22. It is going to be weird watching the NCAA's playing in empty stadiums. Maybe they'll do canned crowd noise, kind of like a laugh track on a TV comedy show. Masters is not that far away, wonder if they'll ban fans from that too.
  23. Congrats to the wife, nice fish!
