  1. When I saw 24 hour drive to Montauk, I thought you were talking about Montauk on the eastern end of Long Island.
  2. I'll have to look into it. BTW for all concerned, I just ordered a case of shotgun shells from Cabelas, online. They are now charging sales tax to AR residents.
  3. Got yet another flyer in the mail yesterday. They've got some good deals on handguns. I'm eyeballing the Remington 1911 45 ACP.
  4. We've been finding the black bass (mainly spots) around gravelly points and gravelly/rocky flats for the most part. Usually out in the 20-25 foot depths. Find a likely looking spot and use your electronics to see if there's any fish around, if you're not seeing any, move to a different spot. If you know of any brush piles in the same depth range, those are worth checking out too, same goes for any offshore humps.
  5. Nice one!
  6. I'm just poking fun, I'm sure the bigger eyes (the ones I can't catch) give a good account of themselves. But, and I kid you not, Jeb and I were on Beaver Thursday, I was working the spoon about 25 on the bottom, got a bite, commenced reeling, and after a couple of turns of the handle, and feeling nothing but dead weight, I told Jeb - this is a walleye. Sure enough it was. Granted it was only about 16".
  7. If you snag something off the bottom that feels like you're reeling in an old wool sock that's been lying in the mud for a few years, it's probably a walleye. If you snag onto something that makes you think you're reeling in an old boot that's been lying on the bottom in the mud for a few years, it's probably a big walleye. I've been told however, that they taste good when cooked, I can't verify that myself as when fishing for the fighting species, I do, unfortunately, catch a walleye every once in a while, but they're always too small to keep.
  8. If you can't find the color you want locally, you can order them direct from the GY website. They charge a lot for shipping however.
  9. Got the map in the mail yesterday. Lots more area devoted to clothes than to fishing stuff. Hopefully they'll cram a lot of good fishing stuff into the relatively small fishing area.
  10. The weatherman (for what it's worth) was saying last night that we might have a chance of remnants from the hurricane that's brewing in the gulf making it up here.
  11. Wnet out yesterday in Jeb's boat, we caught around 30 black bass, mainly spots in the 10-14" range. One decent LM and a couple of short walleye. Best bait was the drop-shot in 20-25 FOW with a finesse worm. We also had a fairly decent topwater bite using a 4" pencil popper. Saw some white bass surface actvity in the main lake near Shaddox Hollow. Lots of geese out there this year.
  12. Glad to hear your wife got into them KC. Thanks also for the tip on the Kastmaster, I've heard they work, just never have tried one.
  13. Maybe, I did try GP/Orange for while, no takers. Water in the Big M area is still fairly stained, I like Black/blue in those conditions.
  14. Things were a little slow for me today, could not find the deep spoon and drop shot bite that was working the last couple of weeks. Did get a few on the drop shot and a couple of short walleye on the spoon, but it was just one here and there. Picked up a couple of LM working docks with the jig, and a smallie on a top water. A dozen bass total and I worked hard from 0615 to 1330. Quite a few shad have moved up on the banks and in the coves, they are everywhere. Saw a couple of 12" bass hanging around the Big M ramp when I came in, and the dock fish I caught were in less than 10 FOW.
  15. Dang it Bill, after reading your report, I'll have to haul my boat up there and burn expensive gas. Glad to hear your getting some LM on jigs, thanks for the report!
  16. Congrats! I quit many years ago, it's great to have that monkey off my back.
  17. Speaking of worms, I read a book several years ago about the invasive species brought over by Europeans during colonial times. As I recall, the worms we have now in the US were all introduced species.
  18. Can't help you much with walleye or crappie, but there was an article in last weeks Benton County paper about fishing for whites. The guys in the article did very well fishing in the area south of the HWY 12 bridge and north of the hatchery pond. Whites move around so you'll have to find them on your electronics or look for surfacing fish. We got into some last week on the gravel flats north of Copper Mine and we did see some surface activity in that area this week when we were black bass fishing. It certainly is better early in the AM or in the evenings.
  19. Bill we did not see a whole lot of shad, but every once in a while we'd see them on the depth finder, a couple of the fish spit up shad, looks like they're getting lots to eat.
  20. Launched at dawn, ran into OA member Inshore and his buddy, nice to meet you! We ran up to our number 1 favorite long point, fished it hard for about an hour and caught only one K there. We pulled up and motored in the direction of Eagle Rock, near which is a series of 3 gravel points, we fished those points and found one small area about 25 feet deep where we caught in the vicinity of 20 K's, one decent LM, and 3short walleye, mostly on spoons. Once that bite slowed down, we motored back up lake and fished several spots and caught a few more fish, but couldn't find another hot spot. Most of the fish we caught later in the AM at the other spots came on drop shotted plastics. Ended up with a little over 30, mostly 12-14" K's, with a couple of keepers. Water temp is 82, down from last weeks 85. Quite a few bass fishers out there today.
  21. Thanks for the report, I haven't fished Windsor in about 3 weeks, but last time I was there I noticed the shad you mention, they were all over the place. This fall and winter should be good.
  22. No rain up there? We were thinking about TR this morning, but Weather.com had an 80% chance of rain for Kimberling City. Looks like they were wrong again (no surprise). We fished Beaver, we didn't do as well as you, but OK with a couple of dozen 10-14" spots on drop shotting finesse worms, with big fish being a 2 lb. LM. We couldn't get anything on spoons. Table Rock and Beaver are so close together, but fish different.
  23. Me and Jeb may be out there tomorrow also, probably around the Big M area, still thinking about where to go, TR, Beaver, one of the Bella Vista lakes?
  24. Great to hear, especially that you'll get your grandpas knife back.
