  1. There should be no added taxpayer dollars unless the Feds kick in support money. MDC operates on a fixed sales tax plus license fees to fund their operation. Cleanup in the State Parks and Federal Rivers will cost us. Paying for all of the flood damaged homes and businesses will raise our insurance rates.
  2. The sand is always there, it gets mixed in with organic soil and looks like dirt. When it gets stirred up in turbulent water, the lighter organics float off and the heavier sand settles out. The clay floats off too, that is what makes all of the muddy water.
  3. Looking at the Facebook page, people are still fishing at Montauk. One pic shows the runs by the Mill flooded. No mention of major damage I can see.
  4. Meramec does not hatch, they just hold and raise trout from other places. Montauk and Bennett hatch and raise. The only report I could find was the Salem paper had a blurb about damage to campground and some hatchery damage. Mo State Park web shows the park closed thru May 8 due to flood damage.
  5. All I have seen is some damage reported. No specifics as to extent.
  6. Probably have to upgrade or replace most of them after the flooding anyway.
  7. Back on track. Clearwater Lake ran over its emergency spillway for first time in history Monday. http://www.kfvs12.com/story/35288742/watch-impact-of-water-from-clearwater-dam-on-rte-hh-in-wayne-co-mo
  8. Did you hit a bump?
  9. WOW, 2 Rivers under water. I saw footage Sat of water near bottom of the Hwy 19 bridge at Greer. It was over the bridge at Hufstedler's at Hwy 160 on Sat too.
  10. Glad to hear that. Good luck over there.
  11. Just saying, it is bound to happen. I did hear a report that they are gettin killed off by large numbers in the TN river system. Something down there they are allergic too. Wappapello topped emergency spillway and washed out T road. Another record for that lake.
  12. But every big flood helps the Asian Carp move up further into the watersheds.
  13. Now it looks like may be another record crest on the Mississippi too. They may close 55 at Meramec Bottom again. May have to find new route to the city for treatments.
  14. Pickwick Spilling all gates the other day was not as impressive. Table Rock is a little higher, seems like more pressure coming out when they open gates. TVA seems to do a better job maintaining the river system than USACE. But they did not have to deal with record flooding.
  15. Looks like it will now be called Camping and Boating World. They got Overton's too. http://www.stltoday.com/business/local/camping-world-led-group-wins-bankruptcy-auction-for-gander-mountain/article_3291c21f-16a8-5ae3-bf6e-0f5c93d5176f.html
  16. I loved the creek until a drought hit it 10 years or so ago. It is a losing stream that went dry. It has not been the same since. We came in from the river 2 years ago and went up a ways. Not any big fish to speak of. Back in the day, we could hit it after a morning of trout on 11 pt at Greer and catch a large number of bass.
  17. We have had a dose of water here too. Current River has reached record levels, closed road at Doniphan for first time. Water over bridge at 160 near Hufstedlers on the 11 Pt. Forecast shows that the emergency spillways on Clearwater and Wappapello will be breached this week also. As of now, I have recorded over 10" of rain since Fri. Riverton Doniphan
  18. Looks like Camping World has bought out Gander Mountain. This article states they will keep about 17 stores and auction off the rest.. http://fishingtackleretailer.com/gander-mountain-purchased-camping-world/
  19. 1 for me, 2 for the lake. What was the state logo on the truck? Any good shots of the gigging tourney releases?
  20. I was wanting to catch a mess of them on the TN River below Pickwick this week, but it was spilling 10 gates at the dam. The area we fish was too turbulent to get a boat in. I did catch one on the lake bigger than those as a bycatch from bass fishing.
  21. Tengabama strain from Pickwick today. 20" 3.5 lb.
  22. Nice thing about raised beds, 3" rain one day, still able to plant the next. They drain well, but have to water more.
  23. 10 inchers are more tender eating.
  24. Duh, it is still April. I will see how this pans out. It looks like, against the better judgement, that all my tomatoes are going to be out before the first of May. Back in the day, my family did not put out any warm crops before the middle of May about the time school let out for the summer. I put green beans, cucumbers, and zucchini seeds out over a week ago and still nothing to break the surface. I think the soil is still not right. But water temps at local lake were at 69 on Easter Sunday. They were 75 last week at Pickwick.
  25. A buddy of mine bought some mirror panels designed to be the ultimate camo a few years back. Might work in a flat field, but did not look real in any place around here. Turkey hunters are in full camo and making noises that mimic a turkey. Now they even dress up like one. Add to the mix dense foliage, dim light, lack of optic enhancement like a scope, and aging eyes of older hunters, so many things to go wrong. As a 16 year old kid, I was hunting with my great uncle on public land close to our farm during rifle deer season on opening day. My uncle had dropped me off and went up the ridg and parked to hunt. Around daylight, we heard a lone shot. A few minutes later, a few cries for help. Neither one of us bothered to go check it out, we just thought it was some kid that wanted us to help him drag a deer out. When we went in for lunch, we found out what had happened on the other ridge. A hung over kid that was about 18 or 19, partied all night, went hunting that morning. His grandpa went hunting that morning also, but only wore a red checkered flannel shirt. In the early morning, that bleary eyed kid gutshot grandpa as he was slipping thru the woods. The 30-30 round took several days to finish the job, but the grandpa died. The grandson never went hunting again, not that he was much of a sportsman to start with. I learned alot that day. Know what you are aiming at. Don't hunt without a clear head. Wear orange. Let others know where you are. I have sit in public woods calling a turkey gobbler and had a guy walk in front of me. I cautiously waved and did not get his attention. I called rather loudly, still no attention. When he dropped trousers and started taking a dump, I got up and introduced myself as the landowner of the property he was trespassing on. It can be a dangerous sport.
