Nice. Where do you trap the pink rabbits?
-
Probably what they use to chop the finger off to get lures out.

Bullet shock does the knock down power. You can hit bone with a light fast bullet and achieve some knock down power. You can miss anything solid and it tear its way all the way thru and ripping organs and make a small hole. Its killed but does not know it. Deer are thin skinned. Light fast bullets do damage if they tear thru. But hit them with something that opens up fast and dumps all energy quick will shut them down. I hunted many years with a 6mm and 87 grain Boat Tail Hollow Point bullet at about 3100 fps. It opened fast and dumped energy fast. Most were recovered fragments in skin on other side. All would go a ways before dropping. Then the 30-06. Dumped them on the spot with 150 grain soft points. Slower and bigger. Thru holes both sides. 300 Blackout, 150 grain Boat Tail Hollow Points. Bigger and slower, 1900 fps, like the 30-30. One shot kills that go less than 30 yards, exit holes. 6.5 Grendel, 123 Grain Boat Tail bullets at 2500 Fps. Thru shots with little blood. Quartering shot thru brisket and bullet lodged in leg skin, almost intact. Bad performance, going to handload something better for it. Great accuracy and range. Does not dump any energy into target. 350 Legend, still open on kills, good accuracy and performance. Big Soft Point bullets that are running around 2200 FPS. Should open quick and dump energy quick. I have hopes. The 6mm was a laser. I could put it where I wanted. Shoulder shots broke them down and wasted meat. Head shots were a breeze. One was a hail mary with only a rear end shot on a trophy set of antlers. Up the butt, blew out a ham and spine. Severed a head at the neck with the 30-06 on a nice 8, all I had a clear shot at. Grandsons first buck was a spine shot with the .300 Black Out, bucked up and fell. Shot placement and fast open bullet that dumps energy in a short distance is good for whitetail.

Black powder does have a satisfactory roll to it when it goes off, then a puff of smoke. My Hawkins did fairly well with round balls, but not always quick. I have yet to take one with the inlines I own due to the recoil.

You travelled the same direction I have. Started off with the 6mm and then went to the 30-06. But, the surgery tweaked a nerve on the right shoulder and I am back to softer shooting rounds. And I have a pile of grandkids coming up the ranks. I shoot the .300 Blackout, 350 Legend, and the 6.5 Grendel. All work thru the AR 15 system, soft recoil. .300 Blackout and .350 Legend both perform like a 30-30. The 6.5 Grendel is more like a .270. Gas system on the AR smooths out the recoil and I don't have to flinch. Adj stocks fit the kiddos. Then there is the pistol aspect that lets me use them during the "Alternative" season. I have 3 AR's set up for that too.

The cartridge performs. But, so does a 308 and there are tons of it out there. I found one shop that had some for $52 a box and they were only 104 grain loads. Not sighting in a rifle at 2.60 a shot.
-
Long range shooters developed it. Just a souped up modern .270 round. But, Lapua and others brought it to glory. Cycles good in an AR10 long action. Ballistically, it performs like my .244 REM/6mm REM rifles with a little more lead down range. Its long range predictability and energy makes it good for some that shoot over 500 yards. I choose the 06 would have kept chuggin. Heavier chunk of lead. Creedmore is for targets.

Flies have always been a work of art. More is put into them than really needed to accomplish the job of catching a fish. And, its alot of fun doing it. Fly Tying has changed the way I look at things when shopping. I find things all of the time that make good material to tye with.

I had never even heard of the cancer I had before it hit me. My Doc buddies missed it. Lucky for me, my Dentist had some experience with it and we nailed it early. I have run into so many since with the same cancer. My cousin got hit 6 months after my first surgery. I really can't believe its not the cell phones we use on a daily basis that cause the rise in head and neck cancers. But, nobody will ever go after that. I use speaker phone and bluetooth in car now. Seldom will I put the phone to my head.

My Grandson's other Grandpa bought him a new rifle for his birthday a few weeks ago. TC 6.5 Creedmore bolt action rifle. The other guy, not being a gun person thought I would take over from there. No scope, and most importantly, no ammo. Scopes are easy, we came up with that pretty quick. Needed one since it was a slick top with no open sights. Ammo, big problem. I own many rifle calibers and have a stock of ammo for them, and reloading supplies to make more. But no 6.5 Creedmore. 6.5 Grendel that I own helps some, I have some stock bullets for the same caliber. Finding loaded ammo for almost anything other than 5.56 or .308 is tough. Went online to Midway USA tonite and ordered dies, brass, and some bullets. Lucky me, I have powder and primers to finish the job. We will roll our own next week when it all comes together. The last few years have brought shortages of stuff I never would have imagined. I wanted crackers with my chili last night, store was out of saltines and oysters, I made cornbread. Meat and veggies are always a crap shoot if they will have your cut or choice. Garden stuff, last year I could not find green pepper plants or tomato stakes. Canning jars were nowhere to be found. I would like to try new calibers of firearms, but if you go that route, you have to find the ammo to feed them. Car lots are empty. Boat lots are empty. Gunshops are empty. Fishing industry seems to be keeping up this year. Plenty of lures, rods, reels.

5 years ago this weekend, I was closing out my work for a 6 month stint battling the cancer. Today, went shopping, did everything I wanted to do, and enjoyed a good buffet. Tomorrow, grandson and the farm doing some spring cleanup. I have made it back to the top of the heap. Looking back at this, I count my blessings. Norm M died of the same procedures. Big_D has not posted on here since 2017. I have been in touch with many of you on here that are battling the cancers that seem to attack us all these days. Keep the faith, it can be beaten. Be Well, Fish ON!!

I seldom eat breakfast, so the point is kinda moot. Syrup tastes like crap, radiation burned out my sweet buds. A good buttery waffle may taste good.

But then you need to drag out the waffle iron. Takes more time. Frozen ones don't cut it.

One Cast Short - Blake's Catch this Morning
jdmidwest replied to Phil Lilley's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
You need to censor the butt crack shot. Nice fish on a crappy day. -
Oatmeal used to be good with lots of butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Maybe a little cream to loosen it up some.

I have the collection of Fly Tyer Mag from back in the 90's to the current issue. The only magazine I have collected. Probably around 25 - 50 books collected back to first editions. I have 2 of Ed Story typewritten Flies of Missouri. I collect a large database of online content digitally also. Saving it for the time when all I have to do is tye flies again and enjoy. And toss it down to the Grandkids.
-
That is a good summary of it all. The net has replaced alot of my collection of books on Tying methods. But there have been many more creations spawned from it also.

The dubbing loop traps the dubbing between 2 threads and then the loop thing spins it into a yarn that you can wrap. Works pretty slick. Basically, you make a thread loop however long you need and slip the dubbing in and twist. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gzCJLeFtSIg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lzYyMca1Wac It takes some finesse to get them to taper like Billethead does. Most are just crude dubbing methods to make fuzzy flies. They make a Y shaped tool on a spindle like the Materlli whip finisher to do it. https://www.feather-craft.com/feather-craft-dubbing-loop-spinner No wax needed, just some skill

Ride to ER, some lidocane and a few nicks with a scalpel and they were out. Back to the river with my gloves on to keep infection away and marinated in Barley and Hops for pain. Floated on thru that day. Those Flickershads have wicked sharp hooks with a goofy bend in them. I deflected a 3 hook Rapala stick bait with my wrist on a float one day. Buried a barb into a tendon. That was a booger to get out, but I had one hand free to do it. I have had them in fingers, knees, leg, and wrist. But joining two index fingers with one treble, and a flopping 10" trout on the other hook, was a climax. I hope.

I enjoy the park itself. Usually take wife, kids, grandkids to the spring, feed the fish, museum, and visit the artifacts. Last time up, we stopped in and hiked around the old mine pit looking for morels. Park was full of Mexicans meat fishing, did not wet a line.

There you go, off topic, swearing, reference to religion. 3 strikes to you...

The only time a gps is running on my phone is when I need a map. I turn location services off, saves batteries. You can also edit the data on the pic or crop and save it to elimate the location information on the pic.
