    Boeing Woes

I don’t think it’s just the Max. The market in general plus travel plus Max. Couple airlines I looked at are down 50%. We’ve bailed out car companies before and they weren’t intertwined in our national defense like BA is. Not saying it will come to that, but it’s possible.

    What's Cooking?

Gabagool! 😄 Made some potato soup last night.
  3. Stupid? I don’t know about that. Their objective is to make money. That will include trying to find the right balance of high and low-margin merchandise. Sounds like a lot of folks on this forum don’t like the tackle offerings at BPS and opt for Tackle Warehouse instead. Do we matter in the grand scheme?
  4. Don’t know enough to make an informed decision. But, I wasn’t expressing an opinion on the BPS business model.
  5. Investors in all companies are interested in return on their investment. That’s why we’ve got the massive and constantly evolving economic juggernaut we have. If BPS doesn’t deliver the products people want at a price they’re willing to pay they will become available elsewhere.
  6. Would it make sense to put an epoxy coat on these?

    What's Cooking?

Nice, mild, flaky white fish that really benefits from some fat in the prep.

  11. There’s a much greater awareness regarding the proper use of antibiotics these days. Any good doctor will be careful in prescribing them and instruct you to take them all for the reasons mentioned above. Resistant strains are a growing concern. For example, staph infections used to be fairly routine and treatable, but the newer mycelium-resistant strains (MRSA) are a bugger to control and can be fatal. Same is happening with pneumonia and others infections. It’s a big deal. There are more and more resistant bacteria out there that our best antibiotics can’t control, and the pipeline of new drugs isn’t keeping up. I think the overuse of antibiotics in livestock production needs to be addressed. We’re setting ourselves up for a major problem.
  12. Antibiotics are for bacteria. Bacteria mutate rapidly. Leave some behind and they can develop strains that are resistant to the antibiotics and are therefore less treatable in the future. So, you should take them all to knock it all out. It’s got nothing to do with emptying out the medicine cabinet. There’s no conspiracy. Look it up.
  13. I’m no boat mechanic, but you may want to take your meds as instructed. Stopping an antibiotic prematurely can encourage a worse, more resistant infection.
  14. Started tomatoes, peppers, lettuce and ground cherries a couple weeks ago. Thinned them out yesterday, and it’s back under the lights.
  15. Yeah, for every one of us posting there are potentially hundreds reading. I think it’s especially impactful on smaller streams. Saw a post on FB yesterday that was just sickening. A post by a large fly fishing retailer (who likes to advertise how conservation minded they are) with a dude holding a large fish. No location was mentioned, but in the comments, the dude couldn’t resist identifying himself and the small MO stream, telling exactly where he was standing. That was followed by another big fish brag shot of him identifying the same spot, in case anyone missed it the first time.
  16. ‘Eddie says when the baby comes I can quit one of my night jobs.’ ‘I don’t know why they call this stuff Hamburger Helper. It does just fine by itself.’
  17. ‘I was going to make espresso!’

    What's Cooking?

So how did it turn out? The recipe looks good to me and so does the pic. I’ve been trying to perfect gumbo for quite a while, and have it down pretty good - to our tastes anyway. I do the roux in the oven rather than on the stove. Pretty fool proof, and you can make more than you need in advance and store it in the fridge.

    What's Cooking?

Looking good! I keep the rice separate and put gumbo over it. Putting it in changes the thickness of the broth eventually. Maybe not a bad thing, but you can’t take it out. I love gumbo!

    What's Cooking?

I don’t think anyone here is tossing around fancy words trying to impress anybody. Certainly not me. It’s more about sharing what we’re up to in the kitchen and learning. No need to dumb things down. I often end up Googling after reading this thread. Folks have varied knowledge, tastes, experience and backgrounds. I think it makes this thread interesting and fun. Now I’m gonna go microwave a couple of White Castles and get back to the movie.

    What's Cooking?

Last few days meals, all pre-Googled for your convenience 😁 Shepherd’s Pie. Easy recipe with Pioneer brown gravy, rosemary and Guinness. Kathy upped it with ho’made mashed potatoes. Ham, cheese and onion quiche. Pre-made shell, Colby jack, mozz Ham steak, baked sweet potato, green beans. Sorry, no pics.
  24. Curious what happened next? I get the idea and it’s I’m sure it’s a deterrent, but they’re not foolproof. If you get a positive for deception, do you forfeit? Is it made public?
  25. Heck, *I* want to eat those! Nice work.
