  1. We didn’t have it on either of the PBS channels I get. I’ll try on the AR PBS website because I’d like to see it. Thanks for sharing.

    What's Cooking?

Coupla things done on the grill: future son-in-law and his dad made these Polish sausages. Just a light smoking on the grill. Delicious! Had a hankering for ribs. So, baby backs with my rub, done with apple chunks 3-2-1 method, semi-ho’made beans and tater salad. Beans are Bush’s original drained then molasses, ketchup, mustard and rub. Placed in a shallow pan and on the grill to get some smoke and a bit of a crust. Tater salad is store bought doctored up with hard boiled eggs, vinegar, yellow mustard, dill and Duke’s. Made a pitcher of sangria to wash it down with.
  3. I've been thinking about all this and comparing it to one of my favorite things: bird hunting. I can't imagine I'd like it if it was just go to where I know the birds are, then shoot them when they get up. Or on the ground. Not a real solid comparison I know, but even when I hunt a preserve, which is what I do most recently, there's the dog work, the effort finding the birds, making the shot and the retrieve. It's still hunting, with all the great pieces of it. FFS feels like one of those European hunts, where you stroll along and the hired boys flush the birds in front of you. I feel a little sorry for kids that get into this tourney fishing and don't really learn the 'hunting' aspect of fishing. And to me, the have versus have-not aspect of this just seems shatty. Like @Champ188 said, there'll be plenty of time to face the hard realities of this later on, but at the high school level I think it should be more of an even playing field. I'll admit I'm a sentimental sap; I kinda like the low-tech approach. Whether hunting or fishing, I enjoy being outdoors and the experience much more than the tally. I'd rather fish a small stream, be immersed in it all and get skunked, than cruise around a huge reservoir looking at a screen and have a big bag of fish to talk about afterwards.

    What's Cooking?

I remember years back you posted about this. I had heard of muffuletta but had never had one. I cobbled together some olive salad, got some good meats, cheese and bread and made one. It was excellent -- one of my faves!
  5. Thankfully I've only seen it once.
  6. There are some crazy ads though. Unless they know something I don’t know. 😀

    What's Cooking?

50-50 lettuce and spinach, chicken, sweet potato, beet, walnuts, goat cheese with a vinaigrette.
  8. River? Oh yeah, we drove over it going into town I think. We never noticed it after that though.
  9. Lot's of folks like it, including me. And, yes, the tailgating is great. That's part of why it's hard to get folks on board for a change. But, there's nothing but the stadiums out there. The hotel across I-70 from the stadiums has been closed for a few years. The closest place to eat, a Denny's , burned down last year. It feels like to me that with the money they're talking about they could spruce up both stadiums and create a destination entertainment district. And, if they could get a rolling roof for Arrowhead, there could be a lot more events down there too. Chiefs main owner, John Sherman, is saying no matter what, the Royals are out of The K in 2030. We are getting 4 World Cup games out there in '26, which is a big deal for KC. I think that's soccer
  10. The Truman, maybe? Last time we were there it was standing only. Just a handful of places to sit. We won't do that again.
  11. And their strategy was to tie the Chiefs in to the tax to make it scarier to say no. If the Royals had tried to do this on their own, they wouldn't have gotten the 42% of the vote they did. Other cities have made downtown ballparks work and I'm sure we could too, but the plan needs to workable. How is it getting in and out of Busch?
  12. I've always heard the Octoberfest is a mess. We were there a while back for Maifest and stayed in one of the cottages up on the hill above town. We pretty much avoided the crowds. There was an excellent band playing in town on Friday night and we just sat on the porch and listened. Took this pic that evening:
  13. The tax has 8 more years before it runs out -- they were just looking to extend it now for 40 years. There's more time to get it done. The teams didn't do a very good job this go-around. The Royals cobbled together a stadium plan that folks didn't like, tied the Chiefs into it and made veiled threats that both teams might leave if they didn't get it passed. The plan was to jam it into downtown, displace a bunch of businesses and a large church, and tried to say there was adequate parking already. Parking is already tight down there. We sat in a parking garage for an hour waiting to get out a couple months ago after a show at T-Mobile Center. Never again.
  14. We've been to Hermann a few times. It can be a pretty nice get away weekend. I've always been interested in winemaking, but going to wineries all day isn't for us. There are a couple wineries there that do a pretty good job with things. We rode the wine trolley there a few years back and went to a few of the wineries. At one stop an engagement party of about 10 girls got on. I asked the bride-to-be if this was her first wedding, to which I got a delayed semi-laugh. Hermann Farm there is pretty cool. They do old-school farming with Shire draft horses. They have a huge timber-frame barn, restored/rebuilt buildings, and now a distillery. Hermann is light on good places to eat. The restaurant at Stone Hill is pretty good for German food but can be hit-and-miss. Wursthaus is pretty good too.
  15. Any problems with the app? I thought about signing up this year, but haven't pulled the trigger. We listened to the Royals on radio last weekend for a bit and it was kinda nice. I may just do that. It's going to be interesting to see how the whole Royals/stadium thing shakes out now that the Jackson County voters said no to the proposal for a downtown stadium.

    What's Cooking?

We ate well this Easter Sunday. Starting at 12:00 in the pic and going clockwise: smoked pork loin, smoked corned beef, pimento mac and cheese, baked beans, scalloped taters. The corned beef was excellent Got gifted a bottle of key lime juice, so the missus made a couple key lime pies. Excellent, but we both agreed it was too sweet, so we’ll adjust next time. Got a little carried away at the Jelly Belly dispenser, dang it. $14 worth, and the guests left us with about $13 worth. I wonder if they freeze well?

    Sunset

Nice capture! Aren’t you glad you took it with your phone instead of trying to go grab your camera and possibly missing it??
  18. Told Kathy last night life is too short and guys like this aren’t going to last forever. So… We’re going too!
  19. Li’l help So, I ain’t got no mushrooms.
  20. Golldarnit! You retired folks are making me jealous!! I’m embarrassed to say I haven’t even considered getting out to look, and it’s gonna get worse before it gets better around here. Busy, busy, busy, but I’m still getting paid. Dinner? ‘By the time I get home my supper be cold.’ (You tracking with me?? Ask for clues if needed.)
  21. I found a picture of one beginning:
  22. I follow this group on Facebook. They seem to have some credibility. https://www.facebook.com/share/r/j74EvDenVVcFEdLJ/?mibextid=WC7FNe
  23. Yeah, I’ve got some permethrin and some dedicated clothes. It’s a good solution. I think I learned about it here, maybe from you. Lyme disease can mess you up forever.
  24. Ahhh, morels are truly wonderful and I almost feel sorry for folks that don’t enjoy them like I do. They are a special, seasonal thing… something I really look forward to each spring. It’s much more than, ‘Oh, that tastes good.’ That said, I met a guy a couple years ago who’s in our small group at church. He got Lyme disease somehow and it is a tough, tough road for him. I don’t want it, and you don’t want it. It scares the crap outta me and almost has me wanting to skip hunting for mushrooms. Now on to asparagus: When I was single a few years back I pulled up my asparagus and black raspberry beds because I figured I needed less to do around here, and also that those would be a liability if I sold the house. I didn’t sell and I sure do miss them, but especially the asparagus.
  25. Good buddy of mine had his prostrate removed and I think he’s glad he did it when he did. His wife thanked it for its service on Facebook, which he was less glad about 😀
