  1. Good attitude. It’s not all about inches or pounds or numbers. I went to a wedding last weekend. 😄

    What's Cooking?

Baked cod filet with Prudhomme’s blacken seasoning (good stuff!), CSA broccoli and mixed green salad. Good Seasons Italian dressing doctored up with some soy sauce (good stuff!).

    What's Cooking?

Fajitas tonight. Flank steak marinated and grilled to about medium. Sliced thin and served with red onion, red pepper, sour cream, salsa verde, guacamole. Delicioso.
  4. Before this thread, if I saw these two side by side in a bin, I’d pick the one on the right every time. Just looks like it’d have a better action. After reading this thread, I think I’d still pick the one on the right. 😄
  5. Ding ding ding. That didn’t take long 😄
  6. Naw -- surgeon's knot is tied with lines going opposite directions. I use them, more out of inertia than anything else.
  7. That makes sense. So, about 10x the price of gold. I hope Phil has them in a locked case
  8. Man, I am so lost in this and the math. And, I’m pretty good at math. $109 per oz? What are we ciphering here? My tummy tells me a tiny bead, an 18 or smaller hook and some marabou tips tied in with thread and the fish will go, ‘Hey, that’s one of them Turner Jones micro jigs —I’ll race you to it.’ 😄 Would be so cheap and easy to tie one that durability wouldn’t really matter. No disrespect to those who have actually seen and/or fished these wonders, I’m just a bit of a skeptic.
  9. We’re gonna have to rig you up with one of those blow devices that checks blood alcohol content before you can post. You know, like the one in your car 😄
  10. I figured that. Just having some fun 😄
  11. The zip tie has gotta go! Fly fishing is about style, man! 😄
  12. Can somebody post a decent picture? I'm mesmerized at the thought of this fly that can't be topped.
  13. Your new rig's leader likely tapers down to tippet at the end, but who knows what size. I'd get some 4, 5 and 6x too. You could eyeball it against your leader and see about what it is to find your starting point is. 7x is pretty fine and more suited to tiny flies in gin-clear water. 4 or 5x is middle-of-the-road and will turn over a little bigger flies. Like SIO3 said, pop into Lilley's Landing and I'm sure they'll get you set up.
  14. Where would you suggest someone go this time of year for grenbacks then?
  15. If you’re interested in Greenbacks, the easiest place is probably where Roaring River comes down into the alluvial fan and joins Fall River.
  16. Ahhh, memories! Possibly my favorite fishing moment was on Lily Lake. Had my canoe with us that trip and we were on the lake when a massive spinner fall occurred. Those things were everywhere and the fish were rising to them in every direction. The trick was to figure out the trajectory of a fish and drop the fly in its path. On one occasion my fly hit the water simultaneously with a natural and the fish picked mine. Never experienced anything like it before or since. Enough about me😄 Good luck!
  17. What a waste of time! The first response is so much closer 😄
  18. I love it when StLToday makes me answer a survey question before I read. That’s some valuable data they’re collecting right there 😄
  19. I've really got the itch to upgrade my DSLR. They all (well, I think all the mid-range and above) come with HD video now. But that's another topic...maybe.
  20. Agree — nice trip report. I want to get to AZ someday for their unique native trout. Did catch a few Rio Grande cutts over in northern NM, which was fun.

    What's Cooking?

Never mind -- I did write it down. FWIW, here's mine: 1 mango, diced 2 teaspoons minced jalapeno 1 tablespoon minced red onion Juice of 1 lime Need to incorporate that into a dish. Might have gone well with the fish tacos. I'll quit talking to my self now.

    What's Cooking?

Can you share your mango salsa recipe please? I made it years ago, and it was excellent, but I didn't write down a recipe. Seems like it was mango, jalapeno, lemon juice and maybe minced red onion. Fish looks great.

    What's Cooking?

New one for us—fish tacos. Seasoned, baked cod flaked, minced onion, cabbage, avocado and a mayo/sour cream sauce with Sriracha etc. Served on warmed little street taco shells. With, seasoned pintos and a boxed rice mix. Pretty tasty.

    What's Cooking?

Couple racks of baby backs, beans and tater salad. Ribs were prepped and got a heavy dose of rub last night, then onto the Weber this morning with charcoal and apple wood. 3 hours outside, then wrapped in foil and finished inside about another two hours at 225. Glazed with sauce then under the broiler for about 10 minutes. Beans done outside—nice and smoky. Followed that up with what’s probably my favorite dessert— strawberry shortcake. Bisquick shortcake and real whipped cream. Double dang.
