  1. Yeah, I figgered private with permission. Wish I had the time to scout around. Or could get on BirdWatcher's call list
  2. Hello back, and welcome to the forum. What's your fancy -- bass, smallmouth, trout, ducks, geese, quail...
  3. Nice, detailed report. Pretty sweet when you scout things out, make a plan and things come together. Did you have to call them in? Was this public land, did you have permission, or were you poaching?
  4. Good one! Set a little aside for a rainy day. Pure genius! That out to scoot right through the legislature without a hitch.
  5. Would like more information on this project ASAP. Thanks in advance.
  6. "The department's bountiful funds also allow it to lavish perks on state residents that FLABBERGAST conservation officials outside Missouri. For example, each year the agency spends $200,000 to give 18,000 students “positive fishing experiences.” Employees will locate ponds for school class trips and, if needed, even stock them with hybrid sunfish and channel catfish purchased from commercial sources. If students need fishing gear, the agency provides that, too. Other states have fishing events for children, but not like that. In Minnesota, Pengelly said, game employees stock a fishing pond for children at Cabela's in the spring and stock one for handicapped children at a hatchery. “But it's just one fishing day,” he said." (Emphasis added). Wheres the flabbergastation?
  7. 1st clue, for me, was state auditor Claire McCaskill.....Sure coulda changed that to Senator and kept me going. Some things never change.
  8. I've got 2x through 7x and some 6lb mono in my vest. I use them all, but 4 gets used the most. Water and conditions dictate. Just a straight piece of mono for deeper nymph fishing like the Nfow. Might go down to 7x with a small dry or dry/dropper on glassy water. Had a lot of fun on the LP last spring with 7x making very long casts into calm water where a bunch of fish were rising regularly.
  9. I've used them a couple times. Good selection of stuff and deliver as agreed.
  10. Doesn't he? Lives in Beverly Hills too.
  11. I mean what Cabela's pays for a boat from Johnny. I'm sure he's a nice guy, but...
  12. I'm guessing the price of Ranger, Stratos and Triton just went up for Cabela's.
  13. Platinum Equity, the current owners of Ranger, etc., don't really sound like the kind of guys who are in the business to build quality boats -- more like a firm that buys a company to sell later at a profit. BassPro may be a better owner. And, who'd you rather have running the show, Johnny Morris or this dude.
  14. Sounds excellent, and your write up is first rate too. That fillet looks perfectly done. I love polenta -- need to work that into the menu more often. Thanks for sharing.
  15. That's impressive with all the cold temps we've been having. Did you ever rig up something to warm it inside? I did see in a pic that you had insulated it with hay bales. I dunno -- there's just something kinda cool about the whole thing. I watched a BBC series on Victorian-era kitchen gardens at a large estate in England. They did all kinds of stuff to grow veggies and keep his Lordship happy: greenhouses, hot boxes (with rotting manure as a heat source); cloches, cold frames.
  16. I think the bill concerning elimination of license fees is what we're talking about. If I understand things, the fees are above and beyond the constitutionally mandated sales tax, and would be much easier to get to a vote. "No hunting or fishing license fees" would make a helluva sales pitch to the voters, and surely MDC would need to spend some cash trying to clarify what that really means. As for how MDC spends their money -- well, I think they're pretty good stewards overall. But I see some things every now and again that make me scratch my head.
  17. I'm thinking compartments are more trouble than they're worth. I don't really like them all that much anyway. I'm thinking thin strips of thick foam running in rows for keeping dries in good shape.
  18. Fees never go away. This is a way to divert money and control away from the MDC to the legislature.
  19. Nicely done, CWF. I always thought those tins could be useful for something. Never got past that point though.
  20. If the meat is tough, regardless of where it's from, don't try to fix it with a marinade. It would probably benefit from 1) a long, slow braise in a liquid for a large cut, or 2) cutting it into thin slices, across the grain, and a quick grilling. I don't know squat about deer, but that's what would work on a tough cut of beef. It's technique -- then season it how you like it.
  21. Euthanized because they didn't have tranquilizers with them? Who are they trying to fool?
  22. “It has to be reviewed or sunset somehow because if you just have a funding source that never has an end to it, I don’t think that’s good responsible politics,” said Redmon.
  23. Trying to get to 50 likes, just to see
  24. Yeah, there are forums that have ads between posts too. Bugs the crap outta me, so I usually don't go back.
