Yes but I have seen them in November and December. Hunting strip pits. Not sure if they were host to the larva to carry them through the winter or not.

    What's Cooking?

Other than braising and canning big tough squirrels I use the instant pot. A cycle through it. Then coat and a quick fry to crisp them up. Sauce of your choice. Its like eating hot wings IMO.
  9. Sold , Thanks for looking gentlemen. I may have more soon. Need to go through my pile.
  10. One end of the house is sinking from all the weight. 😅 Actually she doesn't even know yet. Just adding to the karma bank.
  11. Vernon County Mo.
  12. Cleaned and restored and re seasoned. 3 single notch lodge circa 1930s a 5,6 and 8 3 three notch lodge circa 1940s-1960 a 3, 4 and a 7. So you get a 3-8 . These are not your pre seasoned rough bottomed Lodge you buy now. They are however slick bottom. We are looking at a potential of 90 years old on three and 60 to 80 years on three of them. Perfect for camp or home use. If you are interested let me know. It is time for me to get rid of some. Asking 80 dollars for the set. Prefer to have picked up, meet you or deliver. No reason to add shipping and make this deal cost prohibitive.

Squirrel salad on sourdough skillet toast or sourdough Texas toast or whatever you want to call it . All I know it is a tasty vehicle to carry the lettuce and squirrel salad.
  14. I take offense to that. I want you to know I was using the bait caster in high school in the mid 70's. If you could cast one then you were doing something. AND I caught some stinkin bass on the river this year with one of those rotating spool contraptions. A 16 and 17 inch spots were caught while looking for hybrids. Guess what I did with those two fish? I ate the stinkin things!

  18. Oh no they are not cuddle compatible. Wonder who gets the final vote in the Wrench household on how and where to dispose of the offending clan of masked bandits? 🤪

Nasty is right. Never seen any on squirrels but have on rabbits even in the winter.
  20. They are going to riot! Be aware of their civil rights! You can only defend yourself if you are in imminent danger! Hooked on Red Bull , well this is going to cause another problem. Rehab is required before making another move.

Oh man I forgot about the pearls. I did manage to clean up my mess and washed and dried the dishes before Ward (Pat) shows up after work. Watered the garden and have to get to the flowers next! Hey Randy don't forget to drink your milk!

    What's Cooking?

Got my inner June Cleaver on this morning and donned my apron. Still filling the larder with Squirrel. Up to 27 since the 23rd of May when it opened. One thing I have not done in years was pressure can them. They are great this way and can be used in a variety or applications. I like them straight out of the jar sometimes and made in a sandwich spread like you would do chicken or tuna. In pint jars. One squirrel fits in nicely but I miscounted and had and extra so some creative stuffing was done in a couple jars. I know pre browning in some goose fat was the tedious part. Then hot broth was ladled into the filled jars of meat. A half teaspoon of kosher salt and a few pepper flakes. On went the flat and ring and into the pressure cooker after getting hot. On went the top and weight (10lb pressure). As it began to jiggle I set the timer for 65 minutes as these were bone in pieces. Timer off and when pressure went down opened it up for ten more minutes before removing jars. They had began pinging (sealing) even before removing the still bubbling jars. I know what is for lunch tomorrow if I can stay out of them the rest of the day.
