Hey I still have my set of elcheapo climbers in the archives in the old shed. I could shimmy right up to a nice tree branch no stand needed and bow hunt all morning or Evening. I had a leg up no pun intended on most cuz I had a professional set at work and I made a good living hanging off the side of a power pole working in them . Anybody want the old ElCheapo set if I can find them? Wrench you could be a real dinosaur sniper in a tree, BilletHead -

Some light on mad cow http://www.allaboutfeed.net/Home/General/2010/1/Meat-and-bone-meal-back-into-feed-AAF004005W/ And then http://www.healthmap.org/site/diseasedaily/article/spotlight-why-cannibalism-bad-you-72612 And things like this is why deer should only be eating what deer are supposed to eat in the wild and not in pens, raised for trophy's and fed processed feeds containing bone marrow and the good lord only knows what else, BilletHead -

TJM, How do you figure deer were not here in quantities? Yes deer were restocked with what was still here from Michigan. They were here in numbers, great nunbers before man with his wisdom at the time killed them out in various ways. By the way carp were never here before Europeans. What part of Missouri are you from that had carp before deer? During presettlement times, the whitetail was abundant in Missouri, especially in the more fertile and diverse habitats of northern Missouri. The influx of European settlers to Missouri during the last half of the 19th century coincided with a rapid decline in the deer population. Unrestricted market hunting and habitat destruction, such as cutting, burning, farming and grazing forest lands, contributed most to this decline. Token laws restricting the killing of deer were passed in the late 1800s and early 1900s, but they went largely unenforced. In 1925, the state’s deer herd was estimated to be only around 400. In response to these findings, the Missouri State Legislature declared deer season closed and made the first substantial effort to enforce its regulation. At the same time, deer brought to Missouri from Michigan were released onto five refuges in the Ozarks. In 1931, deer season reopened but resulted in a small harvest, which indicated a low population that was stable or declining. Missouri’s deer management program has come a long way since 1944. That year, 7,557 hunters took 583 deer during a two-day, bucks-only season in 20 southern Missouri counties. In recent years, nearly 500,000 gun and bow hunters typically harvest around 300,000 deer annually during statewide seasons BilletHead -

No way deer are invasive. What makes you say that? Deer were once plentiful ,very plentiful. I used to shoot archery with a bunch of older than me at the time guys. They said for a time when someone seen a deer it made the newspaper. We are lucky to live in the time we do now to have laws to protect and conserve game animals. To make a right from a wrong. I will repeat again and again. Man is his own worst enemy. BilletHead -

Well I will and plan on eating it until it jumps to a human and if I am that first one so be it. It has been shown that taking illegal and some legal drugs, smoking, drinking, obesity, driving your vehicle, flying across the country and even walking down the street for your health is dangerous for you and still folks roll the dice everyday taking that chance. I pick my fights and venison would still be the safest off all that I mentioned. It would be far more dangerous for any of us to sit in our easy chair watching TV and the computer and doing nothing than being in the outdoors deer hunting. Billethead Guess I should look into things more. I was still at the point believing it was caused by feeding captive animals meat by products like in the case of mad cow. I still think it all boils down to man screwing with nature like moving invasive species , BilletHead -

I knew I could drag my fishing partner out to post. You said you wanted to bring fish home . Oh yes the grouping of spoonbillers. Lots of them and with some vintage boats and motors. One boat was orange with fins like old cars had. A orange and black Chrysler outboard on the back. Three big fellows in the boat. Bubba Sr. Bubba Jr. and Billy Bob. Billy Bob must of got hot because he had his shirt off showing his tattoos. Everyone looked like they were having a good time. I know we did, BilletHead -

Yes our thoughts too but looking into the long range forecast it is going to change just the opposite of tonight's dip and shoot up in temps. It could get real interesting and they will spawn quick. Hoping to be there or somewhere when it happens, BilletHead -
Another report from the tribal lands
BilletHead posted a article in Spring / Neosho River Fishing Reports
Curtise thought it may be time to make the run West again yesterday, Glad we did before this next front. Water temp cooler than last trip. 48 to 50 is what we found. Air Temp at launch 44 but stiff South Winds created 67 by the time we quit. Ran up the Spring and tried first to fish the faster water. A tad higher and faster than last trip too. I started with the fly rod and Curt flicker minnow crank. No love for the BilletHead there but Curt got one. I put the fly rod down and rigged up a flicker. We traveled up to some slower water working a transition area from mud bank to rock bank. Water depth tapering to approx. 7 foot deep. We began to work that shore and both started picking up more whites. Curt said we can catch these on the fly and grabbed my rigged fly rod. He then caught two back to back and I said that was enough of that give me my rod back . He than rigged his and soon it was on. We began to put the hurt to the fish in that stretch . If I would guess a 50 yard long piece of bank. We were the first to work it but soon we pulled in a crowd of more boats. Friendly bunch of folks. Every one going by said we had it figured out. Some asking questions about what are you using? What is a Clouser? Boy that looks like fun with a fly rod. We did our best showing our flies and how we were doing it. We did move up a ways further without a hit and finished off our day back at the hot spot. Did talk to a local that said last weekend in the higher dingier water that was four feet higher he had caught a hundred sows in and around the same area. Also told us the water temp had made 60 degrees at the warmest before the cold fronts. Clouser colors that worked. Standard pink over white and I caught some on chartreuse over orange. Mine were 2 to 2.5 inches in length tied on #4 B10s. Curts looked the same sized. Sink tip lines. mine was a bit more aggressive than Curts and I lost three or four Clousers to the rocks and wood on the bottom. We caught fish from 2 to 7 foot deep. We both kept a few to eat and released the rest. Between the two of us numbered catches totals in the high 50s. A couple bonus fish. A buffalo and yes it wouldn't be a day complete if I did not catch a drum. Whites were a mix of males and females fat with egg laden bellies. I got three pictures to post and I know Curt has some if we can get him to post or send to me to post, Fun time for sure. BilletHead -

I don't know what it is about that place. Just ask Curt. Last year or the year before we were up in some fast water couple of feet less or so and I caught two on clousers. Yes in the mouth. Up in the real skinny waters six or eight inches deep they were stacked up like cord wood along with gar. We tried to cast to them with no love but in the deeper water we caught. BilletHead
