I knew that but was a bit worried it might have something to do with Asian exotic dish . But get this I have tried some different stuff before. When I used to trap and predator call bobcat meat looked good. Not a dark meat. Kind of translucent and smelled sweet. If I ever incline myself to take one again there will be some cuts I will keep and try. No back to fried catfish. Looks good and I like, BilletHead

So your saying you will not need to bring your shock collar? Never mind I will ask that question to your gal pal . I bet she knows. In the duck community we refer this to the fifty shades of mallard green, BilletHead

AH HA! Ness is fond of the Man's man. Will get even with the guide service remark . BilletHead

Were you thinking the Ness and the Brittany and the leg humping other Brittney? Maybe three of the Ness fruitcakes? Reading the Weight restriction plate the fruitcakes would overload the tiny craft . BilletHead

From what the BilletHeads have learned. Cart under canoe or kayak will work and save your back. BUT on gravel or grass or hard ground. Not river bottom mud that will stick to your wheels and make a bad trip. A jet sled works good too. Will float when wading and will slide right good over wet grass and weeds. Plenty of cover along the banks at the duck parks. Marsh stool to rest your rear and or stand by cover. We are primarily pond and field hunters and use layout blinds. Before this boat and motor we just used a kayak solo or when we both get to go one paddles in the gear and the other walks in. This is all I have to give by our limited experience other than that it is trail and error. Learn from every trip what works and what doesn't. Now to the birds you may of seen. Right now we have teal, shovlers, pintail, gadwall, lots of wooducks, and mallards in some of the places I have been. I am sure other species too, BilletHead

Congrads JD, No wonder the new Son in Law is spooked. Take a good look at your self . That or the young man needs a little of that molding you were talking about, BilletHead

Keep in mind JD this 17 mph is just me in an empty boat. Noise wise it would compared to a riding lawnmower. Much less noisy than my 60/40 jet. My friend and forum member curtise has a 14 ft and wider than mine with a 23 hp backwater. Now that baby will really go. The deal though is on conservation waterfowl areas over 10 hp is idle no wake speed. Now going out in the dark I will put in but going out after hunting I won't have to worry about the idle no wake law . Actually I try not to hurry at anything anymore. Hurrying will just get you into trouble faster. BilletHead

Chipotle peppers in Adobo sauce, Found a recipe and tried it this afternoon. First of all we picked all the peppers left in the garden yesterday. The hot ones. Red and green jalopenos and plabano's. I cut off the stems, split them length ways and scraped out the seeds. Put them in the smoker and smoked them for seven hours. Put them in the dehydrator overnight to finish drying them. Used this recipe and wow! I found myself licking the spoon as I stirred as they cooked up. http://www.chipotlepeppers.net/info/homemade-chipotles-in-adobo-sauce The start, Getting happy, More happy, And the finished results, BilletHead

JD the Skeg or fin below the prop is pretty thick and not flimsy. I would think it would go right through a riffle or shoal. This being said that is why I have a jet in my armada/ fleet for that. I may use this vessel though in places I cannot get the bigger craft launched. Now back to painting again. It had been several years since I had painted the boat. Since everything else got a coat I decided to refresh this boat. Inside and out. Then here is the over the seat, seat and grab bar. Did talk to a friend who will bend me a section of aluminum tubing to take place of the wood handle. BilletHead

Well the BilletHead's pulled the trigger on a mud motor. 10 HP. Have had the boat for awhile. Needed the motor and a trailer. Ordered the motor and began a search for a trailer. Finally found a trailer. Had to do work on it. Front of tongue messed up. Cut off some and good to go. De assembled trailer, did some sanding and painted. Reassembled then cleaned and repacked wheel bearings. New LED lights and wiring. Motor put on. Yesterday I took a solo trip and learned a bunch. There is a learning curve running this thing. Some tweaking on adjustments. Biggest thing. With my back my balance sucks. Fell in the boat once, then twice. Second time kind of off the side with me getting wet and boat taking on some water. I did not go over just tipped the rig. A slow crash it was . This being said a grab bar is needed. This was built this morning before taking the Mrs. for her trip. I have had two over the seat brackets made for this boat to get you a little higher for fishing. Took the seat off of one of the brackets and attached the for now wooden grab bar. This makes a nice seat back for a rider. Attached a piece of plywood for a seat. Fits tight over the seat an a pull straight up easy off. Worked real well. We ran through three foot high smartweed and over mud flats where the boat bottom was hitting the bottom. Fun times running the marsh. Ducks were spotted, actually lots of ducks. Made another bracket for resting the tail in the boat. Less strain on the transom. Slips over the back seat. A grab handle lifts it off when not on road. By myself it will run 17 MPH. I am truly impressed. Not sure how much I will be using this by myself but will with the Mrs. Gives us the option of hunting other areas than the ponds and fields we do around home. The seat and grab bar are now painted camo too. Need to repaint boat. Pretty neat what you can do with some rattle cans and a good imagination. BilletHead

Sadie says it sounds pretty cushy at the Ness doggie bed and breakfast. She says also it might be too much and she would make it a habit. I will warn Pat about Max although surprises can be pretty funny, BilletHead

Did they learn that from you Ness? Don't you think the Pheasant would of been better with wild mushrooms? I bet you were in the recliner taking pictures of the dogs. Fold that recliner up and hit the woods. The hens are up and growing . I showed our dog Sadie your dogs. She is jealous, BilletHead

Beautiful weekend for eating , Going to start with Chiles Rellenos. First time we have made them. Used poblano peppers. Some from our garden and some from the store. I roasted the peppers on the gas grill until blistered and blackened, Put them in a paper sack to steam. When cooled off I slipped off the skins, made a slit and cleaned out the innards and seeds. While I was doing this the Mrs. Made the stuffing. Ground venison, toasted and chopped pine nuts, chopped golden raisins, crushed cloves, chopped onion, S&P, cinnamon, garlic, and tomato puree. Brown the venison add the rest and cook up. I made the sauce. Consisted of Jalapenos, garlic, onion, and tomato puree. This was all blended up to a sauce and then I cooked it in a couple tablespoons of goose fat. While it was simmering we stuffed the chilies with the meat mixture. Dusted in flour. Made up a batter. Next steps were a pain and a mess. I whisked several egg whites and some salt until peaks appeared. Then slowly added the yellows and whisked more until we had a frothy mix. Heated up some oil, dipped the stuffed peppers in the batter and fried em up. Did this outside and glad we did. Batter strung all over the back porch Results outstanding, Today a bit more simple. Cut up some wild turkey breast into one inch cubes. S&P. Cooked over the charcoal grill in the Holy Wok, When browned and done added some hen of the woods mushrooms that had been sauteed in butter and onions. Cooked awhile longer. While I was doing this the Mrs. cooked some frozen stir fry veggies in the house. It all was then put together with some bottled spicy sichuan sauce and heated up good. Served over a big bed of rice, Good eats for sure, BilletHead

Hunt turned to mushrooms
BilletHead replied to Johnsfolly's topic in Mushrooms and other wild edibles
Well John, When it rains it pours. Wednesday and Thursday produced four and two tenths inches. I heard the ground make a sucking sound as it absorbed the moisture . I checked two places for hens that usually produce. Nothing. Then a third tree and bingo some starting to flush or bloom. Went back later with the camera and I swear in the three hour time span they had grown some. These are young hens just poking out. I will call them chicks. Baseball to softball sized. At the base of an old oak. Should find them here for years to come. This will be the third year they have showed so far, Found some oysters on an elm branch laying on the ground. Looked up to see more ten foot up. These were on their way down hill. Even as dry as the ground was a dead punky elm holds moisture like a sponge. Wish I had seen these sooner. I will be watching the chicks closely and wait until they turn into full fledged hens before harvesting and butchering , BilletHead -
I am really liking this stuff, You know it cannot be found in Springfield but I know where I can acquire it in Joplin. Chief you would like this if you like smoked peas . BilletHead
