There is those copper mugs again. Then you just had to put the corn in the gravy. I suppose the crunch of the corn in the gravy could add some appeal . Actually my mashed potato dam breaks and the lava flow of gravy gets into the corn mountain. No biggie it makes the corn more easy to scoop onto the fork. Looks good, which one of you has the gravy on the chicken? BilletHead

We have not found but a couple of sulfur shelf. I keep looking though. The hens we find at the bases of oaks that are on their way down hill. Past their prime and deteriorating. Have found them in damper timbered areas and on well drained hill sides. Guess it depends on the available moisture and ideal conditions. Our man Gavin on here should chime in as he knows a bunch on shrooms. When you get them figured out in your area you can be overwhelmed with the abundance of them just like you have with the chanterells. BilletHead

Posole, That does sound good and we will try it with CILANTRO. We like it even though my buddy Ness doesn't. When we crash his place someday we will bring our own. BYOC . JohnsFolly, Yes slow goose day and I was bored. Will do some shooting this week getting a bit excited to take the bow out. A few turkey around and maybe we will kill some. While you are out prowling keep you eyes open for hen of the woods. it is about time. Dry here again so here is to hoping this weeks front will give some rain. BilletHead

Forgiven, You should seek the path of waterfowl enlightenment. I am not a chef more of a food hack but if I can make it taste good. Let me take that back they taste good on their own. Oh MoPanfisher, This is the second time you have made subtle accusations on the flavor of goose. Both times on posts of mine. I am not sure if you had some cooked not so well or if you have never had a well made dish of waterfowl. Closest thing I can think of is you had some over cooked and then it tastes like tough liver. I do see you eat that internal organ. I assure you since you did not taste this it wasn't seasoned until you could not taste the flavor of the bird. Not beaten into submission either. No different than tenderized cube or round steak. pork tenderloin or flattened chicken. I am beginning to think you may be related to someone that posts late night into the wee hours of the morning here. . Don't knock it until you try it. BilletHead who eats what he he takes or forages himself, cleans himself and cooks himself. Bypasses the meat section of the grocery store unless he gets a steak once every couple of months. Maybe a chicken every couple of months? Other than the staple of bacon there is not much processed meat in our house. If you have to cover the flavor you might as well eat peas and spinach Smoked peas and smoked spinach at that. BilletHead

Well early goose season starter wasn't stellar but one down and the makings of today's meal plus leftovers. Chicken fried goose with mashed taters, goose gravy and sweet corn. Nothing fancy just good down to earth eats. The goose pieces were sliced across the grain on each breast side. Then pounded between a couple sheets of plastic until tenderized and flat. Then a three step process. First a dredge in seasoned flour (Cayenne, S&P, Garlic powder). Then a wet dip (egg,heavy cream,S&P and Tabasco) . Finally a dredge of bread crumbs. Into a hot skillet for a quick fry. Set finished meat aside and worked up the gravy. After the flour some more heavy cream, beef broth, S&P and another shot of tabasco. Plate it all up. Tender and tasty and stick to your ribs good, Lots of leftovers and there will be some killer sandwiches in our future, BilletHead

Ollie, This thread involves blight resistant varieties of the big native chestnuts that were wiped out from the chestnut blight. Not the Chinkapin oak we have here in Missouri. http://nature.mdc.mo.gov/discover-nature/field-guide/chinkapin-oak-chinquapin-oak Not sure what you are looking for. Here is my chestnut harvest from my trees this year. Minus a couple I ate and the two clusters the squirrels got before I could pick them up. I think I will start a few more trees and eat the rest. Nothing like grilled burgers, MoPanfisher. Had my first one eight years ago. Next one in two years. It isn't a pain in the rear. The prep work will have things going real well . The rest of it is a breeze and you won't know anything is going on. Glad you are doing this. They say an ounce of prevention goes along ways. After seeing some folks going through their chemo and radiation when my bride did. It always made me wonder if early screening would of made a difference for some? BilletHead

Bummer JD, I still don't know what I am doing here with my inherited hives. I did remove the supers and they had not built in them at all. Guess it is because they are a new colony. One hive is full of bees and the other is not as strong. Peeking in both sections in each hive looks really full. Need to read more in my bee for dummies book and get ready for winter I suppose.
