Braised deer shoulder, what can we do with it? Outside on the trager pellet grill. Shoulder coated with olive oil and salted. Then into the trager @ 400 to brown, Remove shoulder and add brasing liquid scraping up the brown bits, Back into trager @300 for a long braise until forking apart. Remove meat. Nice haul and retained brasing liquid. First meal shoulder meat, sauteed squash, and peppers, tomatoes from the garden. From Walmart added onions too. Skillet toasted Sourdough bread. Bye the way we got our starter revived after two years. Then no pictures but it did happen shredded shoulder and bean burrito with cheese mixed in, Third meal today was French dip/ Philly cheese shoulder sammich with some of the retained brasing liquid. More squash and old German tomato from the garden. Eating good in the Billet hood. Enough for more another day.

They were the original fly/tenkara rods. Dipping rod too flexible stick with a horsehair line. Hazel shoots, willow, bamboo, and other flexible woods made for ideal rod building material. Use the heck out of them old boy. Cheap and efficient.

OAF group float - James River Sept 21... Who is Going?!?
BilletHead replied to dan hufferd's topic in James River
If Pat and I go will bring you a kayak. Sit inside and very stable. No excuses that way. If you don't want a kayak I bet that there is a spare canoe out there. -
Well done you two. Adapting to what is presented to you.

An owl or a hawk decoy can be some of the quick action crow shooting. Fun times. No, I don't eat crow that has feathers. I have been wrong about things and ate crow that way though.

I'm thinking the same John. I get my reference material out this afternoon.

Dull wood bandsaw blades are really, really, really bad.

They are pretty mischievous. Can make a mess of things quickly.

Actually, Bobcat is easy to call but very slow coming in. In areas that have lots of cover they can be hard to see. I have called them in on purpose and when fur was worth something and in fashion one was worth 110 bucks. Where coyotes come running in the bobcat are cautious. Two took almost a full 30 minutes to show up. When season opens, I will give this cat a try. She and her kittens will probably be long gone by then. It would be another think if we had chickens or something to protect. Right now, we have coons tearing up bird feeders. This I need to get on top of.

I agree this display of nature in action is something to behold. Out the window here we have seen this rabbit and a squirrel get taken out by a bobcat. Another time I was what the bobcat stalked. I always squeak on the back side of my hand with my lips when I see a predator while bow hunting. So much fun messing with them. Well one time it was a big bobcat. I was really blending in. Stocking mash covering my face and all that cat was focused on was the palm of my hand moving slightly as I squeaked. I was not very high in the tree either. When he got to a certain point he squatted down like loading his back legs to jump and that is when I started swing my arms like in NOOOOOOOO. I have never seen a critter turn inside out so quickly.

Forgive the poor quality video and the commentator. It happened quickly. A flash out the window from the south and the bunny met its demise. VID_20240720_172404501.mp4

We stayed there twice. First time hot summer. Just stayed one night. Evening fishing and then the next morning. AC was crap. Called up front, sorry for the inconvenience but no other room. Checked out. Again like tough for you. Second time thought a couple years later might be a better outcome. Stayed two nights Thursday and Friday. Quoted a price for two nights. Agreed. Then when checking out. Price not the same. Asked why oh one night more expensive. What? Oh that's a weekend price for the Friday night. Never again.

Pizza wasn't bad for commercial pizza, but the motel/inn sucked big time.
