I like it, Ronnie. Nice flymph. I have always had an affinity for flies like this but don't tie many. What size is this?

What does Johnsfolly do When not Fishing
BilletHead replied to Johnsfolly's topic in Introduce yourself
Does this mean you are an actual scientist? Speaking of royalty ð. -
We have very generous game seasons here in Missouri. Add fish if you catch and keep. This will let a family eat well if they so choose not buying protein. We like chicken and pork and a beef steak every couple of months. Eggs as well but have a friend that will not take a dime for eggs. That's alright she gets stuff from us. Nothing wrong with the barter system.

You are right they are the best. I have not got excited until now about going. This meal and the weather have me itching to get out. Busy stuff but I will be going out a few times before firearm season.

Instructions none the less.

He did not insist on me bowing when he got here. I was hoping he would knight me with one of his fly rods though. Disappointed it didn't happen.

It was a good time Ham and thanks for the visit. It's too bad we live so far apart but if we were closer no way I could keep up with you at all. Ham did not mention it is 3.5 hour drive to visit us then and 3.5 hours home. Someday there will be a road trip to the Hamilton area to try some other species that are not here like pickerel and bowfin to name a couple. At pond one I did not catch a fish but Ham was flat catching those green sunfish. Pond two I felt better. With this fall ish weather pattern I feel the fish are a bit confused on where to hang around. While some of the crappie were deep there were others shallow. I worked my way to a cut or corner where from a distance I seen fish blitzing smaller fish. There I caught four bass a couple bluegill and two crappie. This was one of those. Fish doing this chasing would be shallow enough to see backs. Big mouth on this one. Thick across the back. @Ham you know you are always welcome up here.

Yeah crazy here. Young man down the road got his first archery deer. His family firearms hunts and so does he. He finally started bowhunting a couple years ago. He got his first this morning. He called to tell us. We went down for the assist. Showed him how to kehole or ring the anus and rubber band it. Then pulling it from the inside to keep from splitting the pelvis. He was WOW that is neat. Well I went ahead and finished field dressing it. Garrett is a good kid. Way younger than our son.

1X for Marty I guess I am a lightweight ðĪŠ. I am still not sure about attending the Arkansas gathering but will try this year. Had fun last two times I attended.

Yes same thing. As soon as they hear or even see that truck the fish go crazy. Heck walking the raceways at Taneycomo, Bennett, roaring River and Montauk plus the raceway at Westover those pellet eaters began to froth the water when you pass.

Multiple goodies, Smoking cheese this is Sharp cheddar and Colby Jack. Seven pounds. Next a batch of BilletHeads BBQ sauce and cowboy candy, Some fried dove with mashed potatoes and dove gravy, Hen of the woods mushroom (maitake) to be separated and cleaned, Made a couple burgers out of some meat sourced form a new meat market that is now in town (warden's meat) 80/20. Flavor was great but trying to get past the fat content. I know fat has flavor but we are used to a leaner grind. Maybe try the 90/10 next time. This being said it's been literally years since we purchased hamburger meat. Sides of fried hen of the woods and smoked cheese,

Yes some good natural trout food in that stream, yes some scuds about like your closest trout Park roaring River. No trout pellet feeding once turned loose until the runs in the trout stock retaining areas feed which is not happening at this time. Then all heck turns loose as the uneaten pellets flush into the spring creek. The hatchery fish go crazy even though some of those fish have survived the onslaught of fisherman for weeks. IMO the only fish that truly began to go feral are the ones that drop into the Niangua or get stocked there.

You know that section well and weren't bumping into people!

Come on buddy, Pat and I were over there for two nights camping and fishing a couple weeks ago. Looking at the building area, you are still going to have the same amount of spring creek to fish as you always have and even though no fish from the down hatchery the fishing was good and size was great. I was actually kind of tickled that fish was coming from another place. Word was out some of the fish had orange flesh. Sure, enough the carcasses in the water of the bigger fish had orange flesh. The spring creek park hatchery fish were as always enjoying the guts. Wherever MDC was buying fish they were feeding something other than what MDC feeds. You will have more fish stocked into your spring creek than all the urban ponds that Bennett supplies fish to. Face it is what it is. It's a park.

In my world a stocked rainbow does not equal a wild native rainbow, cutthroat, or greyling caught in their respective native habitat. Like I said some of these urban fisherman don't get out very far from home, just like you Glen. You just happen to be close to a spring Creek.
-
You know how I feel on this subject. I do like places to catch trout that occupy a niche on all of our spring creeks and man made tail water cold water fisheries. Let me rephrase what you said. There is nothing "natural" about catching trout in Missouri period. As far as stocking ponds in urban areas the monies brought in is for all the people's. There are people that would never get to rural places and fish like you and I and everyone else on this forum. I'm fine with these hatcheries spreading the non natural trout around for everyone.
