    What's Cooking?

The cottontail rabbits from this morning turned into braised garlic rabbit. Ready to plate when the Mrs. came through the door. Plenty left for another meal.

All ready been done brother 🤪. On this magnificent beast of a hive I am going to ask Pat to do a yellow submarine in an octopuses garden. Think that would work?

You forgot the bees. It's just a cumulative effect of doing a bit of something every day. Got a hive in the house ready to paint something on it. Right now I am sitting on my rear and if I don't do something I will go bezerk.
  7. I picked the pocket of the buck rabbit. He was chasing the doe. Thinking he wanted to take her out on a cheap date.

Absolutely nothing wrong with those skillets Rick. Those are still older than many members on this forum especially that kid @Seth . They cook no different than the ones we use daily here.

    Rabbits

Anybody on here still hunting bunnies? This morning Pat was out opening the bird feeders. She came in saying there was a possum out there. I grabbed the air rifle and headed out on the back porch to find the critter gone. Something else caught my eye. A pair of cottontails messing around down my shooting range. Well, the shooting bench was right there too so I sat down to give them a try. Got them both each taking a header. Not a problem guessing the range I have bricks every ten yards up to fifty buried in the grass. First one shot at 35 yards and the other at 40. It's been a while since I took a rabbit. Took them directly to the shop hung and dressed them. Sheesh I had forgot how much bigger than they were than the squirrels I have been shooting. There will be braised rabbit with garlic made and waiting for Pat when she gets home this evening. I need to earn my keep. These were adult bunnies thus the braise instead of frying,

Nice cast iron Rick! Speaking of I have made some nice scores lately and restored them. First and the oldest is a gate marked deep number 10. Circa mid to late 1800s. Pat said she is going to start using it. This is the first gate marked deep I have ever seen and a 10 to boot. Get this 15 bucks was the asking price. Could not get the wallet out fast enough. Then this true gem. A victor 7 made by Griswold. Cooking surface like glass. Circa 1880 -1905 Last of the best current finds an ARC Lodge 8. This is my second one to add to my 9. Another glass like cooking surface. Circa 1925-1930. Please anyone that runs across an Arc Lodge reasonable let me know, Bottom looks a bit funky because we have been using it.
  11. Hate to admit it but this winter for some reason the gumption train left without me. I'm getting with it now. Looking forward to Spring. The idol mind is the devil's workshop. Gotta keep busy.
  12. Thanks JD, Never give the double boiler a thought. Sounds much better as an option. We don't want to screw up mother nature's perfect food.
  13. Unfiltered raw honey will do this it is what it is but does not deter from quality. Highly filtered processed honey that has been heated in the process will not do this, but you have taken out some of the healthy stuff such as pollen that is good for you. I would avoid the microwave and put the jar in a small pan of water and gently simmer and it will re liquify. @jdmidwest is way ahead of me in the bee and honey deal. Im sure we can get his input if he reads this.

  15. One of the farmers that we hunt on told me I wasn't doing my job shooting enough. Said he was going to fire me and find someone who would. 🤣. Seriously he really did. Called me a slaker.
  16. Last day of the 2022 -2023 goose season. I don't do the snow goose damage control hunting. Had two spots to choose from. Decided the small pond where I got the banded geese. I was in no hurry to get there so took my time. Set six floaters and a few full bodies on the bank. Grassed the lay out blind and parked the truck in a tree row. By the time I got back to the pond mallards were dumping in. Scared them off and watched more in and out. Windy and this made the floaters look alive. To the east I could hear the roost pond getting noisy. The geese there were getting antsy to fly out wherever they were wanting to go. I was long necking it out the top of the blind watching the daylight starting to appear. Out of the corner of my vision I caught sight of four canadas low bee lining it to the pond, correction that would be goose lining it towards me. They were silent not a squawk as they set wings and glided into me and bang, bang two down. For the next 45 minutes flights of geese left roost heading north. Not my way. An hour to the minute from the first two a highflyer single making lots of noise veered my way. I called and it cupped from on high and like an elevator dropped at ten yards in front of me almost crashing into a decoy. It long necked looking around and like a turkey I shot it in the head. Teh last day is always bittersweet for me. Missed hunting with friends this season. Just never got good enough for that here. Did not get Pat out as much as either one of us would have liked. Next year maybe.
  17. You need to work out just enough to be faster than she is and stay out of reach.
  18. Yes, we would like to know many things. There are things that will freak out most of John Q Public. Simple things that start something stupid like the great toilet paper shortage that happened in the early part of Covid. Somebody said something stupid that caused the shortage. Good grief you could not go to Wal mart and get a bag of brown beans or rice. So, we might want to know things, but it is probably a good thing some stuff is kept quiet. You and I might be able to keep our cool right? .
  19. She is going to slap you upside the head again!
  20. Thanks Alex, That was a very nice tribute to you father. They say the nut doesn't fall far from the tree. I am sure you have some of your dads ethics installed in you. Hopefully we can fish together some day.

Another new dish and two thumbs up. Italian Mushroom Soup (Zuppa Di Funghi). Found this in a site I frequent. Italian Mushroom Soup (Zuppa di Funghi) | Forager Chef For the dried wild shrooms I was well covered. We used a mix of morels, Chantarelles and Maitake (hen of the woods). Whenever we get a big haul, the extra are dehydrated and this is just what the recipe calls for. We made it like is listed on the recipe. We had two bowls each and have maybe a big bowl left. I am sure it is for six servings buy hey what can I say? 😁Twas goooood,
  24. We are everywhere, we are Ozarks Anglers strong. I still think we need a secret handshake. 🤣
  25. Correct but they do use a bunch, more than you can imagine. Big operation as @MOPanfisher can confirm.
