12 volt compressor cooler/freezer

It just was a plan to get some fish to finish out the second challenge of the native fish challenge. Goofy as it is to some you know the deal Devan. We love a challenge and the story of the trip that goes along with that. Gets us out of the mundane Midwest trout fishing. Not that we don't take advantage of that or look down on it. There is no comparison from fish where we live to where they live and belong in native ranges. I do wish Montana would get off their method of thinking in the challenge. -

New Mexico, Arizona, Montana and Wyoming. It's all about native trout. I need to get this thing together. Just dragging my feet. -

I may have confused you, Cody. The origional fridge in the camper is the old Evaporative type. You might ask others about how well they work on 12V but our dealings and what we have read is that it only maintains some. Our Friend @grizwilson has the new type in his camper. I could go that route and replace mine with that type, but I would rather go with these smaller models and use for dual purpose not only camping but for day trips, Motel trips or grocery shopping. We are totally sold on this new type of 12V fridge. -
From so much spring and early summer water of overabundance. Now in Vernon county back into a drought situation. If you lit a match and dropped it in the yard it would burn us out and the surrounding area. Irrigation is running on everyone that has it to water beanfields. Ponds and lakes are being pumped dry.

Anthony we tinkered with different places on the trip. First part of the trip had it inside the front of the truck in back seat. While driving used the 120V while truck was running. There we also had one 100amp hour lifepo 4 lithium. At night while not running truck we would plug into battery. Might change a half volt that whole night 10 hours. We also used it on the floor inside the truck camper. Here we had two of the same batteries in parallel for 200 amps going down the road. Here is the good thing there. Have a DC to DC charger hooked up in the truck plus a solar panel. The solar panel is hooked up to a controller that recognizes the best charging option. The solar panel would put out 14.5 volts to the batteries. We never worried about anything power wise. Never. In the old truck camper all we had was a lead acid deep cycle battery to rely on. It was also connected to the standard alternator in the truck to charge down the road. This sucked and we once had to carry a suitcase generator to run for three hours when we sucked down the truck and camper battery and get them charged to get truck started the next morning. That old truck camper had a furnace motor that would kick off and on plus the water pump motor that put strains on that battery system. We finally decided to unplug the truck to camper link so we could always start. No more of that crap now. Did not even carry that suitcase generator this time. Two weeks plus and never had even a hickup with the system. BTW thanks for the link friend. -

Thanks for asking Cody, Propane and 120V work great if unit is shaded. 12 volt is just to maintain and both units we have had in truck campers would not maintain worth a darn. Older camper would not work with propane on road. This camper and unit would burn propane down the road. The trip west was brutal headed south west for first deal in New Mexico. A couple places were well into the 100s. Both freezer and fridge steadily gained temperature. Made it to Albuquerque. It was hot all night. AC took care of us but fridge slowly recovered. I had indoor outdoor thermometers. Outside sending units were placed into fridge and freezer compartment. Next stop first fishing place in New Mexico mallard breasts beginning to thaw in camper freezer. Darned The bad luck had to eat them. We were moving almost daily so unit could not catch up properly. I actually had three indoor outdoor thermometers in the front of the truck going down the road. Camper fridge and freezer, plus the 12v cooler. From my report you know which one was perfect. -
Nope but I hear the newly formed group of covid campers are getting fewer and their campers are coming up for sale.

They have come along way now. Most vehicles now shut down the accessory plug when engine is shut off. I do keep the lithium battery with us if we will be away from the vehicle for very long. As far as weight this is light compared to the empty premium ice chest empty. Now imagine that same ice chest full of ice. This 12 volt cooler is light in comparison. That is not figuring ice in the equation. No ice needed in the 12 volt. I can get 40 pounds of ice in our premium ice chest easy with room for other contents. So 40 pounds of ice to wrestle in an already heavy ice chest makes this 12 volt cooler a no brainer. -
We recently like in a couple weeks ago made a fishing trip west.(Need to report on that) Of course we camped and take all the food we can fresh and frozen. I have been told and heard these things work very well. We bit the bullet and bought a 30 quart version. Can do down to -8 on up to well above freezing. Use for a fresh food fridge or freezer. This we bought for 100 bucks less than a yes Yeti 45 quart cooler. We got that cooler several years ago for a good price. Still like it and will keep using it at times. This 12 volt cooler will hold more stuff because you don't have to use ice in the available space. Very little draw. Has a cable for 120 volt use and a cigarette lighter adapter. We have a 120 plug in our truck plus we are on the lithium battery bandwagon. Two in the truck camper parallel and an extra for trolling motor we also use in the back seat of the truck next to the cooler when truck not running. It didn't matter what temperature we set it at it doesn't deviate a couple of degrees. Starts cooling fast in mere minutes. This unit ran constantly for over two weeks. I know a person wants ice for drinks. No problem had some covered ice cube trays for covering that. To another deal. Some of you with campers know about three way fridge/ freezers. We have one in the pickup camper. We drove through some hot temperatures. The camper fridge struggled and even when stopped overnight it struggled to catch back up for what it lost traveling. We are seriously considering eventually taking it out and getting another one of these. Dedicating one for fresh and one for frozen stuff. Note for more money you can get one unit dual zone for both fresh and frozen. Bigger unit. I would rather have two smaller ones for moving around. Since we live rural we used reusable ice packs when going to the store. No more this goes with us.

It was well organized really. There were roadblocks set up by the police for this parade of bikers. Yes, a pain to the normal traffic flow and in the case of an emergency it would become a nightmare for first responders. I do get somewhat apprehensive and mild road rage because of aggressive and not so smart drivers but this was just an inconvenience deal to deal with. Famous saying from Spock I found this fascinating.

Go after the brewery I google the best way out of there and get back to I-49 and home. It pops up a set of directions and we head that way. Not very far we get into heavy traffic that ends up in a dead standstill. In the distance at an intersection, we see motorcycles turning a corner. Two lanes wide and when we can see in the distance motorcycle headlights as far as we can see. Slowly we move a bit and a bit more until we have a good look at the bikers. Everyone on the bikes were women riding single and double. Closer we get to see they are ladies of every size and every color on these bikes and trikes. Tiny to overflowing off the sides of the bikes. Then we get to looking at the garb they were wearing. Full leather from head to toe to dresses and tootoos. Cinderellas and devils' Full facemasks and the hair doo's would crack you up. From bald heads to long flowing hair of all colors. Pigtails to spikes and goat horns and they still were coming. I would say three miles of women bikers. Durning this in the distance you could see smoke like in tires burning. First thought was a car on fire. Then three police bikes came by heading away from the smoke full speed between us all going west and the bikers going east. High speed like in a flash. What happened behind us I have no idea, but it was bad. @Quillback this is in your neck of the woods watch the local news and let us know please. Still black smoke ahead of us as we were still creeping along. We drove by motorcycle dealerships. Honda, Suzuki, Indian/triumph and lastly Harley Davidson. All the girls were saluting and waving at the people at the dealerships. As we again were creeping Pat googled up and got this, what is all women's motorcycle ride today in Rogers Arkansas - Google Search We could now see fire trucks responding to the fire and the smoke was getting less. When we go to the place of the incident on the road was burned out shell of a big bike burned to a crisp. Crazy. At that intersection we turned North and away from the parade of bikes. Smooth sailing the rest of the way home.

Back home, there is stuff still going on down there I'm sure. Didn't plan on staying all day anyway. We were there about three hours. I thought there were a lot of people there last year but more this time plus more competing in the cook-off. There are all kinds of interesting folks there. Very talkative and strangers wanting to visit. Plenty of dishes to taste. Stuff for kids to do. Air rifle shooting, playground and stuff to do inside. Law enforcement were there visiting with young and old alike. Umarex air rifles with lots of people asking questions. A easy up with pack goats. And a couple talking about that. Yes pack goats are a thing. I had some books on it and thirty years ago I almost went that way for trips bowhunting out west but ended up with a horse instead. I can tell you pack goats would of been safer and much more easy to take care of. Cheaper too. Now to something funny . We were there early. I wanted to make sure we got a cookbook, this years t shirt and a beer from a local brewery. As we gathered items we made it to the brewery tent. Got in line. 9:15. Asked the lady for a six pack which I was going to take to the truck. She said not selling six packs. Ok we will take two. She said two is the limit per legal buyer. I didn't think about it. She got two out and immediately opened one. I said we just wanted a couple to take home. Oh no this is how it is. We are limited to selling for immediate drinking. Can't take off the property. . Well then too late and paid for we are not classified as morning drinkers at least one time. Others were. We grabbed a couple squirrel street tacos that were great. The beer? Good actually. Good enough we visited the brewery on the way through town and bought a six pack that will last us a month 😆.

I have not been bored one minute. I stayed busy and when Pat retired it got double busy.

Tis the season for the appearance of fall squash. Does not feel like soup season but here we go. Smoked butternut squash soup. Squash cooked in the trager pellet grill.

You can't remember what day of the week it is. You find yourself thanking those that are still working for what they are doing because you remember being one of those assorted workers.

I will just stay with the counting coup strategy. Sit really still and touch them with my spear (long stick) when they walk by.
