For all the carp fans out there...
BilletHead replied to Plastic_worm's topic in General Angling Discussion
Another good one!, I actually thought of you today. River is out of it's bank and flooding into the duck marsh and making some nice backwaters. I took my wanabee duck boat and little surface drive unit for a spin. The carp (common) and buffalo were wallowing and feeding like a heard of pigs. Did not take the fly rod. My thought was "What would Drew do" HA! I could just see you stalking the big scaled fishes with your kayak, BilletHead -
It is so bad we now have a back up for a back up. I really need to liquidate some things I don't use anymore , BilletHead

Got to have one of each at the minimum for every situation. BilletHead

Pete, Like the rest of the guys it will be neat to hear of your fishing adventures. I just wonder how long it will take you to get Red Hot Riplets fingerprints on the steering wheel? BilletHead

You know I think it is in the name. I had a hard time the same as you until we started fixing them. I know you eat what goes into this separately or in various dishes. just in this instance it is in a pie crust , BilletHead

Finally last week got the fall Lettice crop planted. Still a few squash coming on but tiring of messing with the plants. May do another bed of lettuce after yanking those plants out, BilletHead

A couple of dishes, First yesterday I had my protein at noon with leftovers of the Rabbit in mustard sauce. So for the Evening meal it was all veggies. Grilled yellow squash, onions, mild banana peppers and jalapenos, A big bowl of steaming veggies finished off with a splash of balsamic vinegar, So after a long day of yard work we worked up a Southwestern Corn Quiche, Some of the goodies in there was cheese, corn, onion, poblano peppers and Mexican oregano from our garden. For all you fly guys....a 40# on a fly! (carp)
BilletHead replied to MoCarp's topic in General Angling Discussion
Nope it just now grows on my face. Grey now not reddish. Did find out through a genetic test that, You have more Neanderthal variants than 62% of 23andMe customers. However, your Neanderthal ancestry accounts for less than 4% of your overall DNA. This proves beyond a shadow of a doubt why I am primarily a hunter gatherer. It is in my DNA make up. My tools though have changed from a sharp stick, primitive bow and stone points. That was not too long ago though , BilletHead -

Wow who would of thought you of all people living one that lives on the internet would find a picture of me in my younger years. One where I had hair on my head. Someone changed my hat through the magic of photo shop. In those days I was a bow fisherman, a good one at that taking out many, many mud sucking invasive species. Then I got married, had a child, lost some of my hair. The rest got cut off and now I am a jet boat owner. Boy the things you know, . well done MoCarp, BilletHead just wishes he could grow hair like that. -
If you can do a nice slimy, stinky shad you will have my upmost respect ! Until then just being a friend will have to do, BilletHead

You bet, There are those who never look at other threads or posts because they may be about trout and not a bass. They should see how the other people do. I for one look at the bass guys posts. I don't mind spreading the love around. What can I say I like all fish. Even the minnows Livie, Ham and even you catch. I still think you need do down one whole and wiggling BilletHead

I know what you mean, even with just getting back I am ready to go again. I have even been given the go ahead by the Mrs. if I would like BUT, like other times I think this is a test . That and after all these years together it would be a tough thing doing by myself what we like to do as a team. I look at the natives we have left. That was not our goal in the past but now that list is getting shorter. God willing we will do it again, BilletHead

Mountain Home Multispecies and Micros
BilletHead replied to Johnsfolly's topic in Other Ozark Waters
Good fun and good report John! Thanks for taking us along, BilletHead -
Ozark Trout Fisher is spot on. Although Utah seems to have a good hold on raising the tiger trout. It is where and how you catch the native fish in my opinion. The Mrs. and I have just completed the Utah cutt slam. Four of the NATIVE cutthroat in Utah in each of their respective areas, Been there done that in the program in Wyoming. Also caught the natives in Montana. Which are the bull trout, grayling, westslope cutt, Yellowstone cutt and interior redband rainbow. For those of you that don't venture to other forums here on OAF here is a trip report if you want to see what going native is all about and yes after the cutt slam we caught the non natives too, Leave what we have here in Missouri alone and enjoy it but try to go native if you are able, BilletHead

Yes Ness kind of along that line but no dry mustard just Dijon, no flour in the browning process and there is white wine involved. That would be in the cooking and not drinking . I tried to google up the rabbit version I used but there were no matches . There is however a bazillion other versions for the cute little creatures. This one is pretty easy and really good. Like JohnsFolly said tree rat and I think about anything would work. I think If I used red meat like waterfowl or venison I would grill to rare to medium rare and do the sauce on the side and go from there, BilletHead

Chief, Yep at wally world. Clearance to five bucks. Come with a cookbook although the sammies we made were not out of the cookbook, BilletHead Is it going to be EPIC ? BilletHead

I think it will John and the Mrs. and I discussed this same thing. I will see if I can find it online but right now it is in my cookbook, that would be the cookbook I own called Cooking Wild in Missouri . Available at your local MDC office or online . How was that for a sales pitch ? Have used or tweaked several recipes out off this book. BilletHead

A couple things from today, Got this new gadget this weekend on the clearance rack. Grilled cheese griller. So you get your sandwich figured out and put in and secure. Then on the charcoal grill. This cheese combo was sharp cheddar and fontina. With the butter on the outside was some grated parm and a dusting of everything bagel seasoning. Yes I know it is just another gadget but you flip them easy on one side or the other. When the flame gets too high I can still put on the lid causing some nice hickory smoke while cooling off the fire. I can see some good combinations of sammies coming from this! So we had bought a half dozen domestic rabbits. Since we were on vacation and not able to clean them for ourselves we let the grower do that part. Well that won't happen again. We will buy but take care of the little cute rodents ourselves. When we got them they were hole and two jammed into a Ziploc. A sure fire way to bring on freezer burn. We will in the future break them down and vacuum seal. So these nice guys will be used pretty quick and the next ones will be able to keep for longer times between uses. The Mrs. Looked up a recipe in our cookbooks. She said either Sichuan rabbit with peanuts or Rabbit rolled in mustard sauce. Missing one ingredient in the first we settled on the second one. Browned and braised bunny to tender and then worked up the sauce. Lots of goodies in the braising liquid and sauce. I'm impressed and there will be leftovers as now two bunnies down and four to go, This one will be revisited, BilletHead

And they were really, really good my friend, thank you so much . We came home to about nothing. I had pulled most of the plants before we went due to yellow leaf junk and lack of hanging fruit. The ones we left did produce and our pickers seemed happy. yellow squash plants still working some but little of that. May pull them soon. Finally getting a few peppers but not happy with this years results. I am with tho1mas it is time to get fall Lettice in. Like in yesterday it should of been in, BilletHead
