  2. Yes very destructive. I have had hunted them in Texas five years ina row. Looks like a bomb has gone off. Large patches of barren earth where nothing is growing. They are fun to hunt for sure but I would give that up keeping what we have. BilletHead
  3. Not protecting the hogs. If the sounder (group) of hogs have been undisturbed they are easyer to trap. Thus eradicating the whole bunch at once. Wild hogs are very smart. BilletHead

    What's Cooking?

Boy you guys are really starting to make me feel guilty about my tomato windfall this year. Some plants were slowing down so we pulled them. Many green ones on there but just not finishing out. I bet we have twenty nice green ones on the table and have some one who will fry them. I never cared much for them fried. Right now you can see the pig again in the BLT tomato bed. Darned winged porker never grew a bit. After vacation I will plant my fall lettuce bed. Yep Fall is just around the corner. Dove a month and a five days until dove season and a month and a half or so to early teal. Really still too hot to think of it but it all is coming, BilletHead

The bounty of chanterelles makes one very versatile and creative. Well Done John, BilletHead
  20. Kayser, Have a good time and good luck. We will be back up that way real soon. Only fished one place relatively close to the park. Grave creek a tributary of the tobacco river. Just North of Fortine on 93 highway. Where we fished we just wet waded. It has a pretty good gradient, fast water and some pretty good sized slippery boulders. Be careful. Here is a link to last years trip to that place. We caught westslope cutthroat and lucked into some juvenile bull trout. If they catch you purposely targeting bulls you can be in trouble. Accidental catch and release is OK. Be sure and read the regulations. Start reading where I posted the bull trout sign,
  21. Skeeter, We are in Vernon County about half way between KC and Joplin on the West part of the state. We have always had bird like this. We are on our third 25 lb. bag of sugar. Just looked out there right now and I think the numbers have doubled. They did go through a gallon yesterday. I would share birds for sure. Don't know if makes a difference or not but Mrs. BilletHead puts a couple Goodmans pure orange flavor in each batch of juice she makes. Just read the label on the stuff and it is made in Marshfield, MO. We have had no problem with ants this season yet. A few red wasps that will actually chase the birds. I have a very simple solution for the stinging insects. A tip here for others that hate them. Get yourself a cheap spray bottle, then a bottle of isopropyl alcohol. Be sure and get the 99% stuff. Rubbing alcohol doesn't cut it. Put the spray bottle sprayer right on the alcohol bottle(this lets stupid people know not to spray each other or themselves if they can read). Set the spray on stream. Shoot the wasps. A couple of hits and they are down. The spray evaporates quickly. We use it if they get into the house or screened in porch. I would not go for a nest unless you come up with a way to disperse a large quantity at once. If you do please let me know. I get stung and swell up like a poisoned pup. I see a nest and go berserk on them. Usually with a pressurized can of wasp and hornet killer and i don't want to use that around the hummers. BilletHead
  22. Check out god old Wal-Mart. Some sell them. If not check out pet stores. They sell them to feed reptiles and amphibians. BilletHead
  23. Yes Curt you had me standing on my head to see a couple of those . Yes the cigarette boat. My question is why didn't you ask for a ride? Bet it would pin your ears back. Is Julie going to start fishing now? Soon she will be in the cold duck hunting too, ya think? BilletHead
