Yearly Fishing trip - Camdenton area
WeekendWarrior replied to brianetz1's topic in Lake of the Ozarks
The lake is chocolate milkshake color here at the 28 mm and when coming over the 54 Bridge at the Niangua Sunday it was rolling chocolate with floaters everywhere. Should be some fish very shallow with spinnerbait slow rolled as MOsmallies said along with some fish on the points, it has rained here all day today and lake is rising very slowly which I expect them to start pulling more water to keep levels where they are at now. I have not been out but to fish off the dock and the crappie are biting but running small at the dock so I am sure if you work at it you could catch a mess of nice crappie now. Good luck and let us know how you did. -
Best Casting Rod for Skipping Boat Docks
WeekendWarrior replied to Mitch f's topic in Lake of the Ozarks
Been asked before and you can get a wide array of answers but for me it is the loomis mbr844 glx which is a 7 foot heavy with fast tip combined with an old chronarch 50 mg filled with 17 to 20 lb test fluoro. I either sling a 1/2 oz. or a 3/4 oz jig, that big ol 3/4 oz goes a long way back there and gets bites from fish that are not feeding but a reaction bite in that shallow water. I like my reel to be almost free spool with just a tad of tension and just use the thumb for slowing/stopping the revolution of spool. -

Don't think you have to worry about it clearing up anytime soon, especially this way. Sunday we had good color and now it's chocolate -
Had a small club tourney out of Nemo Bridge Resort. Fishing was great Friday catching a limit and probably loosing just as many mostly on spooks and chug bug on edge of bushes with a couple of good ones (4 lbers) on 3/4 oz jigs on flat points. Saturday during tourney ended with only 3 for 6.05 lb. as half the time was spent under a dock with thunderstorms as the bite just deteriorated as the water came up. Came up 9 foot overnight Saturday night and ended up not fishing today.

I just got back home from Pomme De Terre and the Niangua river was rolling big time and plenty of floaters going down by the 54 bridge at the Niangua. Pulling 73 CFS and still rising

They were here at LOZ helping guys at the BBB as well.

Thanks

Just saw the breakdown on BassingBob of fished checked in at each location and it was pretty equally distributed among the weigh-in sites with Pt. Randall with the least cashed checks and all other locations pretty much equal.

Just curious what water color is in lindley arm and dam area

Had a great time at the BBB with good friends as always. Saturday we started on an open bank around the 28 mm paralleling bank with spook and spinnerbait and had 2 nice keepers in first 5 minutes on spook and a limit in a hour with no big bites and ended the day with 10 keepers. Sunday started on a different bank doing the same as Saturday and they were not having it. We struggled a bit and grinded it out. Saw MOsmallies on his dock when we were fishing and shortly after hooked a 4.19 lber on a creature bait for a 33rd place check. Good time, good friends, can't wait to do it again in the fall.

Good luck Bill, what area of lake you fishing so I know where to avoid because all the fish are gone ?
-
I think the fish will be biting good on Saturday, Sunday with nice calm sunny day with all the fishing pressure will probably be a little tough but hay you are fishing for one big bite
-
That is usually what it does, either goes north or south of here, let's hope that's the case

We have 4 of us fishing the BBB. I have decided to fish around the house (28 mm) instead of trailering boat to Shawnee Bend with the projected weather. Have not fished for bass since last weekend, been chasing the crappie with some days being great and others not so much. Thinking a 8.59 lb. bass for the win. Looking forward to meeting some of the Tackle HD guys as I think they will have a tent up at PB2. Will be at the ceremonies Sunday hoping for a early bird prize ?.

You best get after those crappie, I would think they are thick back there by you right now. Like Oldplug said right before dark has been pretty good, had a couple of 15s yesterday working my way from PB2 to house. -

Fish are all over the beds here now, watched at least 10-12 bass either in beds or just hanging a foot or two down in middle of pocket just chilling with the bluegill. And oh, the crappie are biting on banks to ?. -
6 foot would be a concern, but lake is at 656 now and the plan is to raise it to 659 by Memorial Day

We had a club tourney this past weekend. We found fish 1/2 to 3/4 ways back in coves on secondaries and in pockets. Seemed if you caught one there was more there as we had a few flurries. They will be moving on beds this week, just had 3 Kentuckies on beds at my dock today (28 mm) that were not there yesterday. I threw the a-rig Saturday till 1:00 without a fish while my non-boater boated 3 keepers and eventually had a limit behind me before switching to a shakyhead and ended with 4 keepers from 1:00 till 3:30. Sunday they were bipping the shakyhead and then set hook a number of times on air so I switched to a wobble head and had limit by 8:30.

Had 3 kentuckies on a bed behind my dock in a foot of water today, they all look to be nice big fat Ks in the 14-15 inch range. They were not there yesterday. Not sure if you can see them in attached photo.

Perfect! Us LOZ guys like that stained water ?. Water at LOZ is looking like Table Rock waters this spring. Put in at PB2 last night for a couple hours fishing and water was really clear and by the house at 28 mm water is as clear as I have seen it since I've lived here with a 4 foot visibility.

Not on the banks at dock yet as I am like wrench and do not like to work to hard to find them. Have not been on water since BFL. That looks like a fun day you had, nice!
-
Perfect advice by all, only other thing I could add is to fish some of the hard to get to places around docks and you can be rewarded with some of the better fish to be had, but not necessary at all times.
