  1. Was a bit crowded for my taste, but eventually found enough space to enjoy the day. Fished Zone 1. Float n flying a Creme colored chenille jig worked best for me in the morning. Had a couple on black&yellow in the afternoon before noticing a couple bugs starting to get taken at about 1pm. Went to the crackle back and started getting strikes and hooking about half of those. One good brown caught on the dry fly and released. Ended up landing 11. Kept a few. Left at 3:30 or so.
  2. I agree. Can't see what the other side looks like, but doesn't look to be too damaged, so must have road a big wave.
  3. I didn't think they were in LOZ, but based on this report, the record one that was snagged, and the fact my Dad caught some large "big-head" looking carp (based on the eye being low on the head) a couple years back that I assumed must have been grass carp at the time....must have been bighead.
  4. thanks for the report. Any pic of a walleye gets my blood pumping......
  5. Ameren operates according this curve more or less (http://apps.ameren.com/HydroElectric/Reports/Osage/GuideCurve.aspx). I find they are slightly ahead/above the curve around the 1st of April the last couple years, which is still too shallow for my liking since our dock and hoist is in 1' of water now, but it gives you an idea of how they manage the level. Like others have said they'll lower the lake ahead of a big rain if they forecast the lake will run too far above the curve, etc.
  6. Not sure how they cleaned it. I would have used a City street sweeper or vac truck.
  7. I put in at Cooper over the weekend with no problem. Its cleaned up now. Current makes it tougher taking out though.
  8. Phil, I'll be curious to hear what your catch ratio is of trout vs. the mixed bag of TR fish. Good luck!
  9. That's amazing! I know those were shallows, but have you seen the trout coming in to feast on this explosion of scuds?
  10. so this is Sands springs resort's sewage lagoon that is overflowing into the niangua?
  11. Thanks for the report. I'm headed to a friends place there for my 1st trip to that part of the lake. Were you using spinners with the sliders too or just the jig?
  12. I don't but am heading to the Niangua area soon so I'm curious too.
  13. Phil, I'd be in for a kayak C&R tournament assuming the date works for me. Distinguishing between browns and rainbows would be fun or simply only use each person's big brown + their biggest rainbow length to get their score, but I like the total number of fish length format too.
  14. I thought you were kidding Phil. I'll try anything once. I smoked some trout over the weekend after soaking in a brine for 4 hours to make trout dip and they were so good right out of the smoker I stopped making the dip as it just covered up the taste.
  15. Thanks for the report. Thought about bringing my son down for a last-minute trip Saturday, but couldn't make it happen. Sad to hear about large (or any) browns or rainbows dying and going to waste.
  16. I know the thing to do is walk away and not let them get to you, but I am definitely of the "make it clear somehow that this is not ok so they hopefully learn not to do it again" camp. I have never had any issues at Taneyecomo at all and is one big reason I go there, but have had SEVERAL issues at trout parks and as bad as it sounds, if a couple of fly-byes doesn't work I just keep fishing as I did before being invaded and if people let me fish the same way I was and want to trade drifts I'm ok with it, but when a snag occurs I always bite off their fly or lure and always give it back since I'm such a nice guy . It surprisingly sends the person packing with no ill words or feelings. My favorite is the trout park tightline bait fisherman who will come up next to me and cast out right across my drift and set up camp eliminating my ability to fish the spot - that is until I reel in their rig and it to them in two pieces.
  17. Congrats on a great fish Pete! It was good to see you guys at the tournament again this year. You must have caught it right after we went by you Sunday morning cuz we were going to stop and check in with you guys on our way back up an hour later and you were gone. I know it would've been nice to have a day earlier, but I'd take a fish like that whenever I could get it. Needed to put a tracking device on that one!!!!!
  18. Thanks for the updated report Phil. Already had some sculpin jigs tied on so I guess I'm ready for tomorrow!!!!
  19. I need to check out the spotted bass round ups. I'm in St. Louis and would fish the power plant lakes too, but I've been on my own spotted bass roundups on the Meramec and think that is a great idea.
  20. It's Otters. We have the same thing happen out our place at the Lake.
  21. Sounds like we agree the SOT storage is more accessible. I can reach the front or rear storage without much problem because it is so stable, though my pedals do get in the way a bit. I can climb all over the thing really. My wife has riden on the storage area in the back and then we will occassionally switch spots on the fly and haven't gotten wet yet!!
  22. I have both a sit-in and a sit-on and there is no question the sit-on top is better for fishing mainly for stability purposes. Biggest concern to you on Taney in a kayak is inexperienced boaters - off peak times would be recommended. Way more accessible storage in my particular sit-on compared to my sit-in. I may have actually caught more fish from my sit-in, but I think that is just coincidence. If you plan to fish a fair amount from a kayak, I highly recommend the Hobie Outback (pedal driven). Hands down the best fishing kayak available due to the hands free option. A little more expensive and it is a little on the heavy side too, but is worth it if you know you'll use it a fair amount. I can stand and fish (even when fly fishing)in my sit-on if on fairly calm water, I've even had my wife and two kids on it with me all at once in the great lakes with no stability issues. Also, if you plan on going upstream when fishing rivers or taneycomo in the trophy area the pedal drive on the Hobie's should really help. Haven't tried it yet, but I think I could handle 2 units or less in an SOT. More than that may limit your ability to fish unless you stayed in some slack water along the bank or something.
  23. I'd be happy to fix that blue cat problem!!!!! Maybe we'll have to run over there in January after the Phil's Trout tournament.
  24. AWESOME STUFF. I can't remember a better post anywhere. Thanks for taking the time to put this together. Got me thinking Table Rock in the fall/winter as I love the whites. Catch many crappie jigging spoons in the winter?
