  1. Yeah, I got ya. A lot of times I'll see them on and around their gills...that's the only way I know they're there. It's been years since I cut up a bass.
  2. 17 inches, huh? You'd be in the state record ballpark on that one. Record MO crappie was 19 inches, and the best three were all taken from private farm ponds. You at least had a lake record there. Throw up a few pics!
  3. Do you find the same thing that the worms are more abundant in dirtier, warmer water, or is that just my imagination?
  4. No better place to start than craigslist... Don't think you'll have much luck with the borrowing or renting of people's personal canoes. I know I wouldn't go for that. You can get a used up beater that still floats for pretty cheap.
  5. That doesn't sound that bad. LOL Yeah, I don't like sharing rivers, either. But the partiers pay taxes, too. It's as much theirs as it is ours, they just have different interests. There are plenty of stretches of river void of morons...you just have to work a little harder to fish them. It's worth it.
  6. Where were you two weeks ago? Geez. That's a pretty good deal. You'd certainly get that price on ebay.
  7. Oops, my fault...well, Scott's fault for misspelling "dam." Scott, PM me the youtube links and I'll try to post them for you.
  8. Yep, they're nasty. It seems the dingier and slower the water is, the more likely they'll have those things...largemouth, too. Don't see them on smallmouth so much. But that's not scientific, just my experience. But don't let it stop you from stringing up those spots and, uh...eating them.
  9. At least you know they won't be keeping any fish since they won't be catching any fish, right oneshot? I'd rather see party floaters than meat hunters on my favorite river. No offense.
  10. Great report, Scott. Looks like a hell of a trip. Ten days...wow! I wonder if Phil knows he has the filter set up to change the word "d-a-m" to "darn." Last I heard, a "d-a-m" was a big concrete thing that turns a river into a lake...didn't know it was a word to avoid around grandma.
  11. I talked to the lady at Wilderness Ridge today and she said they were pretty packed. Let me know how it goes...we've got a trip planned for the same stretch this month.
  12. I know that partner. I just can't bring myself to pay more than $250 for any rod, ever. Just ain't worth it in my book. You should be able to get $400 for it on ebay...that's what I'd do.
  13. Let me know when you're ready to let it go for $250 and you got a buyer.
  14. Don't get me wrong, I've fished the Bourbeuse, and I've had fun on the Bourbeuse. I'll be back to the Bourbeuse some day I'm sure of it. But like Joe said, fishing time is limited and lives are short...I'm gonna spend my precious time hitting stretches that have clear, running water over rocky bottoms through bluff-walled canyons and are full of fish...or I'll be out exploring new water. And yes, to each his own...I guess I'll concede the "subjective" point. Look at all the guys who love lake fishing. Yuck. But it keeps them off the rivers, so good for them and good for us.
  15. You can find plenty of solitude on far better rivers pretty close to the Bourbeuse, you just have to shuttle yourself (same as the Bourb) and go on a weekday. Just did one on Wednesday. Gorgeous stretch of river, loaded with smallmouth, saw not a soul. And it was a superior river for both fishing and scenery, objectively...unless you really like slow and muddy and fewer fish.
  16. Joe touches four, as usual. There's so much superior water less than an hour from the Bourbuese, what's the point? There are some good fish in that river though.
  17. Well that sucks.
  18. The balls...Rhymers is a very busy access. I can't believe the balls. I'm hearing about theft at the accesses way too much lately. Worrying about your vehicle all day is a drag when you're trying to enjoy yourself on the river. But what can be done? I'm not holding my breath that the local governments will increase the budgets so we can get more enforcement at the accesses.
  19. Same exact thing happened to mine. Was going to cost more to repair than the PC was worth. That computer is now in the garbage.
  20. Kinda reminds me of this guy... Wonder where that picture was taken?

All he said was that they're crappy bass lures...and he's right. They catch lots of trout and lots of other small species, but there are so many other lures that will outfish them if you're looking for smallies or LM.
  22. Yikes. He should have himself checked out. Look at the gut on that fish. Wow.
  23. I was just wondering why they didn't CPR as they caught them if the intention was to release them unharmed. Again, I'm just curious. There are plenty of green slimies in Lake O to go around...and they have poop on them anyway.
  24. Yeah, some of those IPAs are pretty hard core. They're so hoppy that often I can only have one. I like 'em but it's almost like drinking a bowl of fragrant vegetation.
  25. Some nice fish there. Don't wanna start a whole big thing here, but if you were releasing them, why are they all on a stringer? Were you fishing a tourney or something? Seriously, I'm just curious...not giving you trouble.
