Back in 2002 when I had an opportunity to sell my Merc 225 EFI and get a below wholesale DFI Optimax from Charlie Luna I asked the boss what he thought about it. His response was to use Merc Quickleen in every fill up. I followed the advice and got 14 trouble free years out of that motor.
When I bought my 250 Verado the recommendation was to use Quickleen as well as Qiuckcare. We are into 8 trouble free years and going strong with never even a hint of failure to start or run smooth.
Do you guys use additives?
My neighbor and I went there today because of the mud at Cape. The lot was mostly full when we got there which is unusual. But there are 2 derbies there tomorrow and I think many were pre fishing. We saw a lot of boats in a lot of places several were walleye fishing. The water was a lot clearer than I expected it to be. The temp ranged from 65-69°.
We tried spinner baits, jigs, swim baits and shaky. None of them produced. Ned was the ticket with Yoga Pants leading the way. We caught 39 bass and one keeper walleye. 12 of the bass were keepers with 2 over 4#. All in all I am glad that I went north today.
My wife wanted to get out in the boat. With the wind prediction I decided to have a look at Cape. Wow cheesemaster was right. It is nasty muddy. I went as far as Butter Milk Springs. It is still muddy down there. There is a lot of debris between Cape and Wolly. It may take a while for it to clear up.
We found a mix on the ones we caught yesterday on Beaver. Some were large enough to surely be females with flat bellies and some still had bellies full of eggs.
At that age I am not sure how long you are going to keep her interested. When my daughter was that age about 30 minutes was tops. Then on to treats, drinks, etc. Have you considered a Rooster Tail, Beetle Spin or Road Runner for her.
We fished at night and did well. However, when we quit the day jobs we learned to day fish. It helped that there were 6 of us and at least one was there every day in January, February and March. We were able to keep on top of them and know the best bait color.
It’s awfully late for whites to still be around Beaver Creek. When we fished it a lot they were usually gone by the first of April. We would move to the James up around Rolly Blunk’s before heading to Stockton.
We used to see that a lot and at the time it was said to be tannic acid but I have no way of knowing if that is the case. The algae bloom is as good as anything. All I know is that end of the lake is nasty red/brown with low visibility.
Jeff and I met at 06:30 in the fog. Most every spot on the lot was full (derby). We idled for a mile or so before we started fishing. The bite was slow. We really had to work for the fish. The water was 64-66° and nasty red/brown.
We managed 34 mostly lmb with 6 keepers. Ned was still the best bait but shaky produced some.
There were boats everywhere. The lot was nearly full at 06:30. The regular Wednesday tournament was today but I saw license plates from KS, OK and TX in the lot. We went into Piney for a while and shared it with 7 other rigs. I will say no one crowded us or cut us off all day long wherever we were. I noticed that a 50 boat tournament will be there tomorrow. Good luck with parking.
That was a pretty good bite with some nice fish. I tried the wake bait but nothing hit it in that dingy water. It sounds like somewhat of a cool down is coming.
It’s been a while since I’ve been able to take my wife out in the boat. We both had today empty so we went to Cape for a while. We didn’t get there till around 9 so the lot was nearly full. There was a boat on the first two places I wanted to fish so I went to number three. It was a good move. I had 7 bass with 6 keepers on that stretch. On the next 2 spots there were boats so we went on.
By 11:00 I had 14 with 8 keepers. In the next 3 hours I had 3 fish with one of them being a keeper. So I finished with 17 bass with 9 of them keepers. I also had 1 crappie. Everything was on a Ned with most coming on the mud bug TRD.
It was a very good trip with lots of fish. Thanks for the trip Jeff. I’m always glad to fish the Big M area. It is a different world up that way compared to Cape Fair. Visibility was from 4 to 10’ depending on where we were while last time Cape Fair was maybe 18”. The fish hold in different kinds of locations in the clearer water. It also helps to have a good guide.
