You said it takes on water in a couple hours. Does it both take on water when its tied in a boat slip for a couple hours and when you are fishing on the lake for that same length of time ? Same amounts of water ?

HUH ? Whadid I miss ? Should I be sad that I missed it ? I hope I am permitted to post this.

At the risk of giving away a good spot, I just ate a pretty good bacon cheeseburger at a place in Kirkwood. It was not as good as the bacon cheeseburger at Cul*****per's in Kirkwood, but it was pretty good. There are even better places than that in StL, but nothing quite as good in Kirkwood. It mighta been better if it involved more dead critters, but I can't be sure. While walking into the unnamed place I ate, I saw a pebble in the parking lot and on close examination recognized it as geologically identical to the pebbles near where Smalliebigs caught the fish in his opening post so when my smart phone is dumb enough for me to operate its geology app ( or is it a widgit?), I will be able to ID that spot and then I can...ummm.....naw... I wouldn't. I think

Folks, those 13 rogues are now gone. Very soon I will be posting some of the 5 & 1/2 inch ones NIB, a few shallow ones and after those some very gently used ( and priced accordingly) standard size suspending rogues. Til I get that done, the NIB spoonbills are still available, $ 3.99 each. Thanks

About like that, F&F but I much prefer florescent orange to that pink color. To me it mostly depends, as I think many people are saying, on the type of water it is including whether its a big reservoir or a small stream or whatever, If I say deep crankbaits like a Poes 400 or Strike King 6X, on 45 degree chunk rock banks and we are at Table Rock, I have just described several hundred miles of shoreline. If I say "and between the Kimberling Bridge and Point 9" you are still going to be winding fulltime for a day or two if not more. If I say "in the mile of Aunts Creek closest to the mouth" its pretty much served up on a plate *IF* those fish dont move which is often a big if. If its "the dam on Fred's pond" or "the points where ABC creek join XYZ creek" its a whole lot different.

PM sent Folks, the deal for all the Rogues fell through, so Sunday and Monday you can still get them. Price is $ 3.99 each and Sunday and Monday only, I'll pay postage or you can meet me in Webster Groves and pick them up. What I have sold has been duplicates of the ones listed, so you can still get what you want on the regular suspending ones or the Spoonbills. Simplest way is just to PM me the black magic marker numbers I have in the pics.

Google says http://www.merchantcircle.com/business/Hawg.Jaw.Tackle.And.Supply.Care.Fair.417-538-2941 And HawgJaw apparently has a FaceBook page so they might still be around. Donnie Williams had at least one son who was very much into both bass fishing and the lure making, but I cant remember his name. The son would be maybe 45 or 50-ish now/

As somebody else already said, todays technology has a potentially big role in it too, especially on smaller bodies of water. Long ago when the best technology was a Lowrance paper graph, I fished an Illinois bass circuit that always included Carlyle. For those who havent had the pleasure, its a mostly mud bottom, shallow, windblown and generally bowl shaped. The lake killed me, and killed lots of others too. Catching a keeper bass was a major accomplishment there. On the advise of one guy who generally caught one or two bass there, I went there long before the tournment, with a big notebook, every map I could find, and a lot of graph paper. I got in about 8 feet of water, turned on the graph, and ideled that 8 foot depth around the whole lake ( well, below the RR tracks, there wasnt 8 feet anywhere before the river above the tracks), taking tons of written notes. Then I repeated that in about 12 - 15 feet of water ( which was a lot harder to find). Those two laps at dead slow speed took almost 3 days. But when I looked at the maps and my notes afterwards, some specific spots, and some general areas clearly stood out, and fishing those areas and nothing else helped considerably. Today you could do most of that in your living room much faster with maps and computer chips even on a much bigger lake.

I bumped into a bunch of Smithwick rogues, and a few other brands. Most of these are new in the boxes. There are also some that are very gently used that will be listed later on. There are also a few Rapalas and Rebels, and one Pointer 97, some NIB spoonbill Rogues, and some other models. All those will be up here in a couple days.. I am starting with the Suspending Pro Rogues, all are NIB. The medium size lip. They are $ 5.79 today at BPS. I'll take $ 3.99 each only for OAF and in a week they'll go to Ebay. Add $ 0.50 per lure for postage, or if you buy four or more, you pay 25c each for postage. If you meet me in Webster Groves you can save the postage. I can do MC, Visa, Discover, or Amex, debit or credit, or Paypal, or cash if we are meet in person. ( Yes, that little Square thing for your phone actually works) This first batch is 13 lures, all are the 4.5" 3/8 oz Suspending Pro Rogues. Most of them have the Excalibur rotating hooks; # 10 and # 11 don't have Excalibur's. All are 3 treble hooks. I am not a great photographer, so I am including factory model #s and my descriptions. The prices are solid, please lets not negotiate that. Email me for questions or to buy any or all of them. First come first served. Just use the # 1 - 13 in your email. Suspending Pro Rogues, all are NIB. The medium size lip. $ 3.99 plus postage as above. Buy all 13 for $ 52.00 and I'll pay the postage. 1 SDRB 1269 black back, gold, orange ( the Toledo Bend orange color) 2 ASDRB 12140 purple back, white 3 ASDRB 12176 pink back, silver, white 4 ASDRB 12172 metallic green / white 5 ASDRB 12109 "tiger minnow" 6 same as # 5 7 SDRB1214 dark green, silver sparkle 8 ASDRB 1214 bluegreen, silver sparkle 9 SDRB 1235 "clown" 10 ASDRB12197 the Table Rock color (purple back, chartreuse side, white belly 11 same as # 10 12 ASDRB 12173 pink, silver, chartreuse, pink head 13 ASDRB 12151 lite green, black dots on sides, white belly. None of the three guys asked me for advice or anything like that. I forget exactly how its worded but the rules prohibit the Elite guys from getting any information from anyone once the offlimits period begins unless that information is either a) available to the public, or is voluntarily given by another Elite guy who is also in the tournament. Quite a few of the Marshalls brought boats and fished during the practice period and at the rules meeting we were told "remember, if you have been on the lake, you cant tell any of the pro's anything about what you did or how you did it".

I was a marshall at Kentucky Lake in 2010. It was $ 100 then and I got in early enough that I got to be on the lake 3 days. It was absolutely worth every penny and BASS ran things well at the lake. I would do it again in a heartbeat, schedules permitting. I entered at the opening bell in 2010 because I was on the waiting list in 2009 and didn't get in. I had the same experience on the waiting list as others have described here, namely a total lack of any information. After several phone calls I was finally told that I was in a "you could get in but really not likely" spot on the list but by then it was close to the tournament so I let them hold the money. About 4 or 5 days before the tournament they called me and said I could "probably" get to fish if I was at registration but by then I had things at work I couldnt ditch plus I didnt want to try to figure out where to get a bed, take 2 days off work, and then drive 550 miles roundtrip for a "probably".

Nice fish, color me wayyyyy jealous ..but I am not sure the pink hat is a great improvement over the shorts. I hope everybody had a very Merry Christmas and is lining up for a HNY. And yes I remember Smalliebig's HNY picture from this past January. Hmmmm.....

You'd have to check with the state and I'm not sure which agency ( didnt Water Patrol get absorbed into something else or am I remembering that backwards?) could tell you for sure but it didnt used to be illegal to overpower a boat in MO. The problems were tradtionally a ) you could have diffculty getting insurance, and tournament inspections would catch you. With the rig you are describing, I doubt that those would be concerns.

Wrench, if Ness has given you a fair price for the pair of frogs, I know he's first in line. But, if he hasnt, I might be pursuadable if they are indeed a breeding pair as it looks like they are. And, of course, if she is swelled up with froglets. They would match well with the color of a stain on my garage floor.

Vicious Pigs On The Loose In Bella Vista!
LarrySTL replied to Quillback's topic in General Angling Discussion
it is;..it is.....think Uncle Josh. -
Yep, a Hoodler....same company that made the Woodchopper. I knew a guy who would throw a Hoodler all day, darn near every day, on Table Rock. He'd generally catch about 2 or 3 fish, but those would seem to average 4 or 5 pounds.

My dentist told me that for years. I mostly ignored it. Eventually one of my upper front teeth, yes the one that did the vast bulk of the biting duties slowly developed a tiny notch on the biting surface of the tooth and the dentist XRayed it and said "too late now" and showed me a tiny vertical crack on the x rays. Its now quite expensively capped and then recapped to become part of a three tooth bridge. Total cost in the last five years or so for that one tooth ( including the bridge) is pushing $ 5 K. Too soon old, too late smart. lol

Oops..where'd the paragraphs go ? Sorry bout that.

I think you have a few choices but maybe only a few. One is one of the big name brand sunglasses companies, Oakley, Wiley, etc. You'll get a great product but I suspect it will be north, maybe noticably north, of $500 if you want a prescription built into it. Cocoons, see BPS or any of the other big boxes. They go over your regular glasses, not a clipon. Maybe a little clunky looking but some folks like em and they come in different models and sizes. I dont know about a magnifying correction, but you can find out online in 5 minutes. $ 50 + Sorta-like-cocoons but no particular brand. Make sure they are polarized and block all the things you need blocked. No prescription and I dont know if you can find em with magnification. Some of them are pretty clunky looking ( yes mine are)but they work fine, they cost $ 15 - $ 20 so I dont cuss once a year when I break them by sitting or stepping on them, and they dont cost the $ 500 plus that my oddball and bifocal prescription would cost at a regular glasses place. Target, Schnucks, sometimes WallyWorld, etc. One other possibility, is ordering prescription glasses online. Some places are $ 39 or so for their standard frames, single vision, in normal prescriptions. I've never tried them but I know somebody who wears them fulltime and is perfectly happy with them.
