  1. Hey Wrench, I'm looking at this diagram on boats.net. It looks like that piece is #27- part# 85090001. Am I wrong? I honestly don't think the guy before me would jerry rig anything- just did not seem capable. I am for sure going to redo the impeller and gaskets and all that. Water pump was full of wasps and crap and the impeller looked a little worn. Here is the serial number plate. I could be looking at the wrong diagram.
  2. I am hoping this is the only problem. This little rubber thingy is cracked.
  3. Wouldn't just marabou be a wooly bugger? If so- that will definitely work.
  4. Thats good to hear Wrench. I am pretty good at deals though... But after work I'm going to figure it out. I didn't even realize that the lower cowling can just be taken off real quick. Never had a Merc before. At least it starts- my last motor- a Suzuki 40/30- stranded me mid-Arkansas River- while trying to sell it to a guy. That sucked. Had to paddle back. He did not buy the boat.
  5. So true. Me and my dad were high fiving eachother that this motor was running so well and then I gave it a little gas and whoops- water ain't supposed to come out of there... So far I have never bought a used motor with 0 problems so I expected something.
  6. Great, thanks wrench- looks like the maiden voyage is getting pushed back a bit.
  7. Thanks wrench. I am hoping it is just a gasket. Also hoping I can replace it myself. Is this going to blow up the motor? I think it had been sitting a while but otherwise it looks and runs really good.
  8. Sorry that is just what the parts list calls it. I think its just a cosmetic piece. The water must be coming out of the top of the drive shaft housing. There is no water in the actual cowling. This is not my motor but its similar. I hope my MS paint skills can explain better than I could.
  9. I'm only kind of familiar with outboard maintenance so this could be nothing- 2001 short shaft, electric start, 25hp- I started it for the first time on muffs and it ran well. Motor was peeing fine once I removed the dirt dauber nests. Idled great. Ran well, started easy. Only thing is- when I rev'd it a bit, water shoots out from under the "trim cover"- basically at the top of the drive shaft housing. I'm guessing this isn't normal. Anyone had this happen? Even better- anyone know how to fix it? Maybe it is just because it was on muffs? Thanks.
  10. Thanks fellas. Dang greasy that thing looks good. Did you do a two part paint? I'm thinking I may do gelcoat but I've never done it before.
  11. I just bought a 2002 16/42 supreme 160 with a 2002 25hp merc. The boat looks good- but has obviously sat out in the sun for a while. The gel coat or whatever they use on the inside is pretty worn out. Outside finish looks perfect. What is the best way to redo that? Roll on some waxed gel coat? Spray it? Paint maybe? The motor started and all that so I hope it won't cause problems. Time shall tell. It also has what I assume is an aerator in the back. Looks like it needs to be replaced- although i rarely keep fish anyway. Thanks yall.
  12. My dad and I fished up there Saturday and Sunday. Caught a bunch of fish on pink SJWs and scuds. The boat traffic was almost too much to deal with. Had a guy on a jetski blast past us at least four times right up by the dam. It was crazy.
  13. I saw a giant wolf spider at the river the other day while trying to retrieve a snagged lure. It was so big I just broke my jig off and quickly paddled away. Sucker looked like it could jump on my face like those critters in Alien.
  14. I would think about reporting the incident to law enforcement too. Shooting at or near someone for such a stupid reason is obviously illegal (assault with a deadly weapon... at least negligent discharge). I mean yes- you would have to admit to trespassing, but that guy should not be shooting at unarmed fishermen. He's lucky you weren't as much of an armed idiot at he is- he might have been the one that got shot.
  15. When the water is down try a cerise san juan and dark midges. I had a really good trip on saturday. They've been going on 12 and off 12 lately.
  16. Tried a scum frog? Always fun on a mossy pond.
  17. Oh its been monkeyed with (not too bad)- just maybe not on that part. As far as I can tell, the dude that had it before spliced around all the fuses and disconnected the emergency kill switch. Also the reverse gate is thoroughly jimmy-rigged with various parts- works though. I also suspect the jet unit was destroyed or just replaced at some point- cuz its a different color but shouldn't be. The initial problem, and the reason I couldn't get it to run well was just the old hose fitting going to the gas tank (luckily). Its a pretty bad-A motor on the 14/48 its currently attached to. Thanks yall.
  18. About ten years ago I saw a big mess of whole ducks someone discarded just like that in my neighborhood. I couldn't imagine somebody going through all the trouble to kill a limit of ducks and then just chucking them.
  19. You can go below Murray dam- well probably not right now with the flooding but normally it is a decent place to bank fish. It s the closest place I can think of with stripers that are accessible from the bank (I think).
  20. It has one of those washers with the tabs that bend down to lock the nut. I don't see a hole anywhere for a pin. I wish it had a pin- the tab thing is stupid. Maybe it should have one- bought it used and its been monkeyed with.
  21. Thanks wrench- exactly what I needed to know. I looked at the key and it looks a bit off- like maybe it was sheared at some point. I don't think I have a cotter pin anywhere on my impeller...
  22. I know some of yall run jets. I just got a 40/30 Suzuki and I was just checking out the impeller and fiddling with it. It seems like the impeller has a bit of play when it spins- like if i manually spin the impeller it has some play before the shaft catches. Is that just a worn out tee key? Also, should I really crank down on that shaft nut or give it a little slack? Thanks.
  23. I'd like to hear a report too. Headed up that way tomorrow.
  24. I have a VXP 7wt and it is a great rod. That's a heck of a deal on one too.
  25. I also wouldn't turn my nose up at some of the less expensive brands like TFO. I have a TFO BVK that I built and it is a heck of a rod. TFO's components (reel seat, guides, grip) are not as nice as Sage or Orvis- but if you build one or have it built- you can get a sweet rod with a great blank, great warranty and the best components for a lot less than a Sage or Orvis rod. Takes a lot more work and thought so it may be worth it to you to pick up a pre-built rod. I have rods by both Sage and Orvis- used to work in an Orvis store actually- and I prefer Sage- but that is probably because the company culture at Orvis kind of turns me off. Their rods are great.
