I just want minimum flow. Say between 350-450cfs.

That'd be killer for Taneycomo. Fishing would become amazing again.

Like Brian said - they don't stock much above Cooper. Hardly any above Fall Creek.

Barbless - I doubt it ever happens although it would help the fish's face/jaws. I think it should be promoted more but not made a rule.

I wouldn't mind catch and release above Lookout Island. Slot below to Fall Creek.

Make the slot 13-22 inches on rainbows.

24 inches on browns. That'd be cool.

Add an agent just for Taneycomo and you've got my Christmas wish list.

Oh - and add the habitat improvement plan we'll be working on; do that and everything will be peachy keen.

Me knowing absolutely nothing about what I am about to suggest but maybe someone would.

Any possibility that a person or persons could be legally deputized as an MDC Agent with all the legal power to enforce an area only? There are so many of you guys that are on Taney everyday and having such legal power would definitely put a stop to all the illegal nonsense going on there. Knowing the area is being routinely observed and enforced would stop most of the scum from their illegal habits knowing it's going to cost them $$$$$. Word of mouth travels very fast among those scum bags too.

I could see that funding would be an issue so it would definitely have to be on a volunteer basis. But then too, there are good fishing organizations down there that could help with that too.

Just a thought....may be crazy. BUT IF.............

Are parking attendants / meter maids required to do all the training as regular law enforcement? Maybe the township could acquire some worker of a similar fashion?

I think I started a thread not long ago about suggestions for habitat changes. I can resurrect it.

Nothing official yet.

That's ok, I remember that thread.

The way Brian was talking the other day it sounded like things were past the armchair stage, and soon to be a reality. I almost got excited.

Explaination.

I TYPED WITH AND MEANT TO TYPE WITHOUT. If you are caught fishing without barbvless hooks in the restricted areas not with barbless. 'Sorry for the typo

I am told that agents will check hooks by hooking into thier cloth and if the barbed hook that was closed with pliers hooks even a thread you will get a citation.

That is an unfortunate fact. Yep those terrible barbs on a size 24 fly will KILL a trout everytime.

Seriously, barbs on flys are not killing fish. People letting trout swallow PowerBait and corn are killing the trout.

Here is a thought for increased enforcement on Tany. Here on the Eleven Point, our Oregon County sherrifs deputies can enforce game laws and do give out tickets on the river everything from underage drinking to fishing violations. How about meeting with the county officials over there to hire someone to enforce those rules on a local level and thereby raise money for the Branson schools, since game violations go to the schools. You might be able to sell it to them that way.

The money collected by MDC for game/fish violations goes to the county in which it was collected. I was always under the impression it went to MDC but it doesn't. Financially the MDC gains nothing from handing out tickets.

I try my best to never break any of the game laws, I don't always agree with some of them but always try to abide by them. I always welcome an agent to check me while I fish or hunt. If you are legal and doing what you are suppose to then you can have a good visit with them. Being on the right side of the agent can really work to your advantage.

They have a very unthankful job. I understand their job is to enforce the law so you and I can have plenty of game/fish to go after in the future.

It sounds like it was a sad situation. I love to fish below the dam and nearly every trip see people down there doing something they are not suppose to. It is difficult to convey to them the law without them getting bent out of shape. Taney is such a wonderful fishery and a beautiful place. What most don't understand is if you don't throw the 16" fish back you will never catch a 20". If you don't throw the 20" back you won't catch a 25-30".

It all boils down to the difference between fishermen and sportsmen.

A fisherman is someone who has a rod, reel, hook line and sinker, and casts it into the water. They may or may not catch something. They may or may not keep it.

A sportsman is someone who spends every waking moment of his life thinking of how to improve his knowledge of angling. He may keep some dinks to treat his family with if he knows positively the fishery can handle creels, but it's the last thing on his mind most times.

It's all about what you value. I personally couldn't care less how well my local golf course is maintained. I don't golf. And if I did for some reason, you wouldn't catch me combing out a sand trap (unless it was against the rules-caveat). But I like driving balls at the range just for fun. I'll go there a few times a year to swing out some frustration, and as long as they have a basket of balls for me, I'm a happy guy. I could be driving them into a landfill for all I care. People who love golf would look at me as a clueless moron.

Sportsmen want tighter regs because they love their hobby. Fishermen really don't care.
