techo Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 D, C then B and then A and E. I guess I just love jig fishing. You can do anything with them. Swim them, drag them. fish them vertical or hop them. Lots of ways to fish a jig. I would have to concur with the people who said which ever jig you have confidence in. I have a friend that loves fishing a Roadrunner no matter what I catch them on. He always catches some nice bass on a Roadrunner. I think no brand is wrong, but the best fisher-people are versatile in many fishing presentations and conditions. With all of that in mind....I never go anywhere on the lake without a Jewel or Eakins tied on. Tim Carpenter
Quillback Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 I second the Road Runners, spots love them in the spring, white bass too. I think I have caught just about everything that swims on them except for carp. They are a great lure if you like to fish light tackle. Only drawback is they get hung up easy, but then again they aren't expensive.
gabe Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 I have been having the skirts break off on several of my Jewell football jigs. I get them out of the jig bag and the skirts are just falling off. Very irritating. I am going to switch to another football jig.
Ham Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 I have been having the skirts break off on several of my Jewell football jigs. I get them out of the jig bag and the skirts are just falling off. Very irritating. I am going to switch to another football jig. You might want to send the folks at Jewel an email and explain your situation. I'd give them a chance to make things right before swearing off their product. I haven't experienced any problem with their skirts, but would prefer the skirts to be tied on rather than held in place by a rubber collar. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. Hogfan Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 I have been using Bass-X jigs. They are made locally in Rogers and sold at hook Line and sinker. They're similar to eakins and others. They make a roundball and a football head. And I think they're coming out with a flippin jig. They have a website but I dont have the link. I'm by no means a pro or a great jig fisherman, but I like 'em. Just thought you guys might want to check 'them out. Here's the link... http://www.bassxlures.com
Ham Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 The Bass X jigs look really nice. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
Hogfan Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 The Bass X jigs look really nice. Lot of great colors that work real well on our local lakes.
techo Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 They do look nice. I'm ordering some. Tim Carpenter
Bill Babler Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Gabe, I would bet there is some kind of a chemical reaction with your jig bag or box and the skirt material or the rubber that is holding the skirt in place. I use both Chompers and Jewell, in all sizes and find them very compairable. I do like the new round rubber skirts that Chomper now has available on their finess jigs. I have been mixing and matching them with other jig brands. I believe the hook may be a tad better in the Chomper, but without a doubt the paint on the Jewell jig head is far superior. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Members slowroller Posted November 29, 2009 Members Posted November 29, 2009 I have done exactly what Eric said and started making my own. Whichever one you prefer... get a Do-it Mold, all of the parts, and start pouring. You'll save a TON of money, and you can make them virtually the exact specs as the big companies. I recommend BarlowsTackle.com for the parts... top of the line parts, great prices, and great service in my experience. I'm with Whack'em here...I've been pouring my own jigs for years and love it.! The enjoyment you get out of this when you trick the fish into biting something you made is awesome! I understand too, if you don't have room or the time, its not right for everyone. But after the money you spend to get started its a no brainer too. I make my jigs for about .50 ea. Now I do buy in bulk and sell about half of the ones I make just to get my money back, but still you should be able to make them for way less than a buck each. I've not bought a jig off the rack in a long time but I did see the link to the BassX site and they are awesome looking jigs ! But after shipping that's 5 bucks each "ouch" ! I'm not beating these guys up on this, they have a great product I'm sure!! Just remember too, as the saying goes.. a lot of the times these companys are trying to catch fisherman and not fish. If you think this is for you I'd be happy to help!
