BredMan Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 I have tried different kinds of fishing line for trout and crappie but always looking for something better. One of my favorites was 'Tectan' 7.3-lb with a diameter of 4-lb. Cabelas was the only place to get it locally but stopped carrying it. I don't see a need to pay a premium price to order it on-line at the few places still offering it. I now use 4-lb Pline-CXX and 4-lb Gamma. Just curious to know what others consider their best line in the lighter weight ranges. BTW, not into braid.
Fly_Guy Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Not into braid?? I'm partial to using a berkely vanish 4lb leader for trout (attached to my braid of course!). For crappie, I fish strictly braid, as it can bend a crappie hook out of a tree stump, and I save on hooks. helpful?
Wayne SW/MO Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 P-Line Premium, best mono going. Yes I know its not pure mono:rolleyes: Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Ham Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Believe it or not, I had zero problems with BPS Excel in 4 lb and 6 lb. I have changed over to P-Line CX Premium in 4 and 6 for my trout and crappie fishing. I fish the P-Line CX Premium in 8 lb for my River Smallie fishing. Lots of good mono options, but I believe that P-Line CX Premium is the best. Every Saint has a past, every Sinner has a future. On Instagram @hamneedstofish
fishinwrench Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Lots of good mono options, but I believe that P-Line CX Premium is the best Yep. I haven't tried them all but I'm content with P-line CX on any spinning rig.
jdmidwest Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 I have never had any issues with plain old Berkley Trilene XL in green. It is what I use on all of my spinning gear and have used it for many, many years. Good knot strength, low memory, cheap. OzarkFishman Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 I am partial to P-Line Floroclear. All my spinning reels are spooled with either Floroclear or Powerpro. The Floroclear gives you less visibility with the fluorocarbon coating, yet it is still manageable with the copolymer core.
jjtroutbum Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Pretty sure all my ultra lights are still loaded with Maxima. Smalliebigs Posted November 24, 2010 Posted November 24, 2010 Pretty sure all my ultra lights are still loaded with Maxima. I agree with JJ, all my small spinning reels are filled with Maxima Ultimate green. They have three pound which I use for those goofy trout and I use 6 and 8 for Smallies...on my spinning reels that is, I love that mono, it's good stuff.
