Those are nice fish Gavin. I noticed that you said those pictures are from the "archives." Archives meaning last week, month, year, a few years ago? I know big fish are in there, and people catch them and have caught them (PAST tense). But I'm not talking about 2006 or 2007 or 1998. I was just writing about the last couple of years only. As I said, my sample size is small. I only fish the Current in the winter. But I am (was) used to catching fish like those pictured on a routine basis, sometimes two or three, on the same day, by me, or a partner and me. Along with numbers of fish. But it seems in the last two years, that hasn't happened. Plus, I know I see more people in the spots I want to fish than ever before. Regardless of the day. I have no problem with that. We are lucky to have the Current just a couple hours away. Anyway, it was just thought. Because, as a true American, I'd rather place the blame on something or someone else, than accept responsibility for my own shortcomings.

Fall is good...but winter is the time to go for the big ones we stay out for 3-4 days usually. Never a guarantee of a good fish...but someone usually sticks a nice one during the trip..a few highlights from the Winter Float Trip archives.

Gavin you're killin' me with these pics of the big ones from the January trips....nice fish...

Joe those are recent pictures...My 23.5 & Kip's 25" were caught January 1st & 2nd of 2010...My 23" was caught January 6th of 2011 and Josh got one in the 18-19" range the same morning..Kip got a 20" right in front of camp a couple days later. We didnt get a picture of the heaviest fish that I've seen come to hand recently. Kip caught that one on Thanksgiving weekend when we were out below Baptist Camp...It was a 24.5" female that so fat that you couldnt get two hands around it, 7-8lbs easilly, unfortunately, both of us left our camera's back at Montauk that morning. Senior's 22" was in 2009 I think..Think Coldwater got a 22" or so in April of 2009 as well.

If I was expecting 2-3 a day that size...I'd be disappointed. I've had days like that down in Arkansas...but never on the Current..If you can do that on a consistant basis....I want to go fishing with you! Cheers.

This thread needs to be deleted along with the pictures, Gavin, thanks. This doesn't do the river or any of us any good.

Eh. As Gavin said, the bulk of anglers simply don't have the skill set or the patience to do much damage to the larger browns on the Current (I include myself in that group, although I'm working on it :D)

It's really no different than anyone posting up big fish photos from the North Fork, or Table Rock, or Beaver, or Crane, or anywhere else. It shows there's big fish in the system, but it doesn't mean your average Joe is gonna catch one.

I agree about the pictures. I,for one, want to hear about the guys who are successful, and especially see the pictures of some great fish. This forum is all about fishing and catching fish, keep those reports and pictures coming. I will look and listen.

Skill set = stickbait and spinning rod???????

Okay

Despite every advertising campaign to the contrary, having X or Y piece of gear doesn't make you a successful angler.

I guess I just don't see the distinction between someone posting photos of the quality fish they caught on the Current and someone writing a report about the quality fish they caught on Taneycomo.

Are you serious? I see a HUGE difference. Taney gets a couple million trout dumped into it per year vs. what, a couple thousand at the Current? Also a LOT more fishable water on Taney, compared to a few select holes or runs on the 7 miles that is the Current. The Current isn't going to have a FRACTION of the 20-inch plus fish per mile that Taney does.

I've seen a big increase in the traffic on the Current outside the park in the last few years. Granted, fishing the Current with big stickbaits is hardly a secret anymore, but fish porn posts like this certainly don't help.
