Members Skeeter007 Posted May 18, 2011 Members Posted May 18, 2011 I couldn't help but notice that there are a few Monday morning quarterbacks on here analyzing and criticizing the USACE's actions with this past rain event. Now let's play - You're the boss! The buttons are at your fingertips. You want to drain the lake? It's yours to drain! Last I heard was that we could get as much as 5" of rain in the next few days. I am curious to see what kind of ideas come out of the woodwork on this one!! I think no matter what happens, someone will end up all wet!
crazy4fishin Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 If I was playing your the boss I would..........give everyone the day off to go fish. But then again that wasnt the question. C4F Crazy4fishinA Cornhusker
Sprint21fter Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 The bottom fell out in Berryville, AR. Kings river will be rollin again. Didn't think we were going to get this much this fast again. Looks like the storm is slowly spinning off but will take thru the night to slow down. If we keep getting pounded with heavy bands we are in trouble again. We have some room in the lake but it will be shriking before the day is over. COE will do fine. I have faith they know what to do.

Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted May 20, 2011 Root Admin Posted May 20, 2011 You're putting a lot off stock on the weatherman. I still stand behind the Corp and say no flow till the water is on the ground. They are saying the flow will be 55000 if they run it. Not going to mess around. Would like it to be 48000 so it won't get into our units but we have 1000 sand bags ready. Now if they drained the lake as you say and the rain doesnt come, then you've flooded my resort for no reason. If the rain falls, we are flooded no matter what. Regardless, I feel pretty helpless... I'm in Boston visiting my son.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted May 20, 2011 Root Admin Posted May 20, 2011 The magic number is 729 feet. That's when theyll open er up.
eric1978 Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 ... I'm in Boston visiting my son. To get your mind off the rain mess temporarily, you should take a visit to Lexington/Concord and do one of those touristy tour things on the bus...really cool stuff to look at and Revolutionary War history out there. If you get a good guide you'll have a blast. I think it's like 10 bucks for a ticket.
Sam Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 It's 8:45 pm on Friday, and I'm in Ozark. I checked the garden rain gauge before dark, and we already had 1.5 inches of rain this afternoon. It's raining hard now, and radar shows a lot more rain coming tonight. That's going to get the Finley and the James up - big time, as the ground is already saturated. With more rain predicted off and on for the next week, I think Tablerock will be coming back up again real quick. I've got no opinion as to what the Corps should do about releasing water. They're the experts, I'm not. I know I'm wasting a lot of brain cells that hold information about Bull Shoals fishing structure that's now under 55' of water.
Quillback Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 2.5" of rain in NW Arkansas yesterday on average. Beaver is on the rise again, it was only a foot below flood pool before this latest rain.
skeeter Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 1.65 inches since Noon Friday in the Baxter area. Ground is saturated again. Off and on rain predicted thru next Wed. The key to any releases here is the lower Mississippi where both the Old River Control project and the Morganza Floodway are being severely tested by the record flooding.
