Wayne SW/MO Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 I wonder what the COE will do now. The three area lakes are full and I know they have opened Table Rock. Bull Shoals is nearing full and the White is already in flood stage downstream. With more rain in the forecast it looks like push is coming to shove. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted May 23, 2011 Root Admin Posted May 23, 2011 My guess is that they'll try to match whats coming in at the dams like last time, then release enough to give them some wiggle room for the next rain event. Amount of release depends on rain. Table Rock. I've heard a couple of warnings. One is that they are going to release 20-30,ooo cfs and up it later today. I would think they will do the same as last time- get on top of the lake levels, let them crest and then back off when they start to drop.
Quillback Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Heavy rain just rolled through Bella Vista this morning, Little Sugar creek was already high and in the trees before today's latest downpour. Looks like we got an inch and a half or so this AM.

I see that today's storms seem to be all but stationary over the basin, with more to come. How far do you think they can open the gates without flooding Branson, Hollister and Rockaway, or at what release to you think it will? I assume Bull creek is already likely to see problems. Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted May 23, 2011 Root Admin Posted May 23, 2011 Not sure anyone knows. I hope it's not as bad as april's flood but time will tell. Lake levels don't seem to be rising all that fast but like you said, it's still raining and more to come. I said we'd be dodging bullets for the next few months... Wishing I was wrong.

They have already been more proactive than they did in the 08 floods. They have been working the lakes down little by little. In the 08, they just let them fill to over flood stage.....and then it rained more. It is gonna take some close watch on their part for sure. MOPanfisher Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 There comes a point where all they can do it release enough to break even. Gonna be the same all the way downstream to the gulf. Haven't heard much about the river levels along the bootheel for a while, have they dropped? If so it will give a little room to release depending upong downstream conditions. Fortunately the recent rains haven't been the "ark events" with 10-20 inches, but it ain't over yet and the storm paths just seem to be targeting the mo-ark line. Once the lakes get as big as they are now, it takes more rain to raise them, but rain doesn't seem to be in short supply.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted May 24, 2011 Posted May 24, 2011 My question has always been. Is there a posibility that more water is coming into the system than can be let out? Pete
