The OAF cookie contains login info that could be hacked by someone else, so a Security Software may see that as divulging personal info and throw a report.

The ads flashing on the website are enough to launch a cookie or malware program since they are bits of computer code that Phil allows to run on his web. You don't have to click thru them for them to track you. I use Firefox with Flashblock and ad block, the ads are still there as a small banner, but they don't flash and grow larger.

Clear out your cookies and restart your browser, then surf OAF for an hour and look at your cookie folder to see what it leaves.

A cookie on your computer being hacked is not a tracking cookie.

Tracking cookies are cookies that will actually record what web sites you visit and report that info back to the site that created them. Log in cookies will not do that.

I've never found a banner add (flashing or not) try to leave a cookie or any other type of programming such as spyware and malware, unless you click on it.

IE does have cookie management and pop-up blockers.

A good firewall will also prevent malicious malware and spyware from being loaded onto your computer.

The only threats I've had on my computer in the last few years were a couple of tracking cookies, and they did not come from OAF. They were from another site that would not let me do business with them unless I accepted their cookies. Of course, I will no longer be doing business with them since I found out that their cookies are in fact tracking cookies.

As for viruses on this site, I doubt there are any in any of the ads. If there are viruses on OAF, they were uploaded to the site in a picture or video. I don't open all the threads here and of course not all pics and vids etc. I've never found any problems with any of the material here. I'm sure Phils web managment has software to stop that before it gets to the site.

A link to another site could also be a link to a virus infected webpage. One must be careful as to what one clicks on while surfing the web.

There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.

OK, you win. Sorry my 24 years of computer experience could not explain it.

Hi everyone, just wanted to let you know I have had a problem with the virus also. It happened first about a month and a half ago. I logged onto the site and immediately a Windows Xp Repair Box popped up saying it was analyzing my computer. It totally wiped out everything on my harddrive. Fortunately I was on my jobs' computer and we have an excellent IT department and they were able to retrieve everything.

Not being sure if this virus came from this site, I got on the site again about a week later and the same thing happened again. Now I knew for sure!

I have been accessing the site with my iPhone since then. I decided yesterday that I would be brave and try it again. Same thing happened again. We have an excellent secure system here, so I don't understand how this is getting thru. I am scared to try accessing it on my home pc, because if it wipes it out I will be in trouble for sure. I will just have to stick tom my iPhone for now until this problem is resolved. It just makes it a pain, because some things can't be done on the phone. Thanks.

I guess I need to point out that about 1000 different people look at the forum a day and very few people have had warnings appear and only one report of any substantial damage possibly coming from this site. The whole site has been scanned several times lately and nothing has ever shown up.

That's about all I can do at this point.

It is possible that "Windows XP Repair Box" was caused by the virus and if you clicked OK to let it run that is when the virus installed itself. It is difficult to determine where the virus came from.

Was the IT department able to identify the name of the virus.

"Windows XP Repair" was the virus. I did not even have to click on it, it automatically started as soon as it popped up and from that point on I could not stop it. As soon as the webpage began downloading, the virus was working.

If you were using Internet Explorer, it would not have happened. Microsoft products are impervious to viral or malware attacks..... B)

My home PC puked the internet driver while opening my PM folder on OAF. May not be connected to this issue at all....but figured Id throw that out there just in case. (I know nothing about crap like this).

I swapped modems because it was saying that the computer couldn't communicate with it, and now ATT support claims that the driver ( which supposedly can't be deleted) is mysteriously gone. It is/was XP. IE.

I hate computers when they do stuff like this.

I was and am using Internet Explorer jdmidwest. I am sure this is not a microsoft virus, rather one going under the name, because when it pops up it does not look legitimate.
