Bman Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 My best fishing buddy, my son Matt was only able to join me for a few days this year regretfully. Matt didn’t let that slow him down. Matt released this beautiful 25 ½ “ Brown! I released this huge Male Rainbow. He measured 29” long with a 20.5” girth. Now for the rest of the story. The previous day I believe I had this same fish on for a few moments. When hooked the huge 'Bow bolted out of the starting gate FAST! The fly came loose, and he was out of there. After this I hooked his girl friend that he was courting! She looked to be an easy 30" I'm thinking a possible new state record! Again a long distance release as the fly popped out! I couldn't keep a fish hooked up that day! Thanks to Chuck Griess of Anglers and Archery, as he was guiding me this day. The only good line is a tight line
Bman Posted October 1, 2011 Author Posted October 1, 2011 Oh yes, the details. Both fish were caught on a 9' 5wt Winston. Full floating line, 5X tippet, and a size 16 tan scud. The 'Bow refused my first drift, so I made some adjustments to my rig, (Tippet length and split shot) second drift he took the scud! The only good line is a tight line

snagged in outlet 3 Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 Now that's what I'm talkin about!!!!!!!!! Good going guys. Chuck is a very nice guy in addition to his guiding ability. Me and my brother are heading to Bennett in the morning. I could only wish for something like that. SIO3

snagged in outlet 3 Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 Thank you Mike. That's what I've heard all year, we just can't make it all the way to a tailwater in a half day trip from St louis. SIO3
Members TArcher Posted October 1, 2011 Members Posted October 1, 2011 MY GOODNESS! Those are some nice fish! Congrats on the awesome catch. You would think fish of that size would have wanted more a meal than a size 16 scud, lol. But I guess a bunch of scuds would make a meal. Just curious where you caught the fish. The background looks like it might be in front of the cable.....but not sure. My brother-in-law hooked one night fishing a while back down from cable a little and we never got the fish in. Once it was hooked it just kept taking line and finally came off. "There will be days when the fishing is better than one's most optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home."
laker67 Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 My comment would "WOW" as well. Once again, you and Matt have fooled some great fish in a not so friendly atmosphere as taney. Congrats Matt on a very nice brown, and Bman that fish is far above the limit for big rainbows. Were going to put this one in the "tremendous" category. Very nice indeed. Congrats.
