When I get to fish a jerkbait, I cannot put the megabass down long enough to give the mcstick an honest trial, are there days/weather ... that one works better than the other?

Thank you, Jim

I've got no confidence in the McStick...might be good for lake bass, but its been worthless for me on the river...use what you have confidence in.

The McStick is a great producer. Caught close to 40 fish on one in 2010 in the Shell Knob area! On my local lake, I have caught 2 bass over 5lbs on it this past Spring.

To be honest, I think it is more location, location, location; then weather and retrieve.

McSticks rock. Good colors, action and top notch customer service from SPRO. They are my go to jerkbait.

A bill broke off one of my mcsticks last year after only a couple casts. Sent it back and they sent me 2 new ones. Try that with megabass.

Same story here and then some GoneFishing. Made a customer for life here with me.

I have heard lots of great things about the McStick. I own a couple. There has to be something said for the Megabass though. That is the go to jerkbait for the pros when they fish Table Rock and Beaver early in the season. They were a secret for a long brfore they went public a few years back. Not sure exactly why they are better but they do catch fish. When I hear stories like that and see people using them when they are sponsored by someone else I can't help but buy and use them too. Boy they are expensive though! I do think there is something said for using what you have confidince in. There were a lot of big fish caught on Rogue's before this newgeneration stuff came out.

Let me chime in just abit on the two baits. I fish both, and just love them. Unlike the majority of you all I have the opportunity to be on the water for lots of days and lots of hours. These two suspending baits are totally different from each other and you can play that to your favor.

The Megabass is a much shallower diver and runner than the McStick. The Spro bait will obtain depths of 8 to 12 ft. if fished on light line. They have several colors that are without a doubt fish catching machines. My best buddy Bill Beck prefers them 99 to 1 over the Megabass and when we fish them together, the McStick more than holds its own.

The Megabass is about a 6' bait at best. If I try to weight the bait, it just takes the life right out of it. The Megabass baits do not like suspend strips in the least. Best way if you want it deeper is to weight the hooks, still it robs the bait of its action. The McStick takes weight with no problem.

Megabass baits are excellent for fishing Cedars and structure if you got the nerve. They suspend in the tops very nicely. You got enough Junk in your trunk to throw that 30 dollar bait in the cedars, it is a monster.

On fish that are suspended or transitioning from deep to shallow or are in the open water column, the McStick will eat that Megabass alive.

In February thru April fishing bluffends and transitions where you have fish on the move and the depth is a question, the McStick in the right hands will totally blow the Megabass out of the water. As you lock onto a depth, whether shallow usually no deeper than 10 ft. or suspended shallow, the Megabass will get right after them.

In closing, your arsenal is not complete without both in my opinion. I use them in totally different circumstances.

Good Luck

Great stuff, Bill. Learned a lot myself just reading that. I own quite a few of both baits and catch fish on both, too. Not sure if I was truly aware that the Megabass runs considerably shallower than the McStick but now I know.

Not to add to the confusion. I have been hearing a lot of great things about the Jackall Squirrel jerkbaits. I hear they are fish catching machines and have some great looking paint jobs. I believe they are designed to dive pretty deep. U guys might look those babys u and see what you think.
