I almost always carry a couple of hand grenades with me when I go fishing, or an RPG. I've had instances where I'm wade fishing and I come around a stretch of river, and dangit if there isn't a well fortified pill-box set up on the hill overlooking the stretch I want to fish, and a 2 man team with a heavy machine gun laying down withering fire on my position. I used to carry a flame thrower for just those situations, but the fuel tanks were a little heavy after a while. The nice thing about the hand grenades is -- the hillbilly meth-heads think I'm just throwing rocks at them. The look on their face when they figure it out too late almost gives me more satisfaction than my fishing.

not to mention the grenades come in handy when the fishing is slow!

Justin, indeed, fishing does pick up quite a bit. And sometimes, galldangit, I get so sick of working on my "delicate presentation" when flyfishing. This offers a nice release.

I'm with ya, JoeD. Most of these C&C cowpokes just pack their cute little 9's just to feel cool. If they ever had to truly depend on it to save their butt they'd most likely get shaken and botch the job., making a bad situation even worse. Everytime I hear someone say "I'm not worried about such-n-such cuz I have a C&C permit", I wanna drag them outside by their earlobe and kick them in the neck Billy Jack style.

Especially the ones that blow all that ethical rhetoric about..."I'm packing....but I hope I never have to use it".

Yeah, me too....just makes you weigh more for whoever has to carry you out of the woods. LOL

Threads like these make me want to purchase a Kahr compact 9mm (for the wife at home anyway) to carry on the stream with me. I realize that if I ever encounter the Taneycomo squid or one of these fictitious cougars, I am screwed anyway, but against a hillbilly meth-head, I will be set.

Seriously though, its a sick world! You'd think a college campus would be safe, or a church.. But not anymore, there's a small percentage of people out there who are just sick freaks who need to be put down when they get too rabid... 33 shot on a college campus, in a church congregation, or a friggin middle school!

Recently (out by bennett two years ago) two old folks who barely own a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of looked in their front yard and saw some punk kid rummaging through their dump.. Instead of grabbing up their weapon and confronting the intruder (sounds like some of you would scoff at the very idea in this instance) they went out to ask him what he was doing. He killed them both. For no goddam reason.

Happens all the time, people are losing the frackin minds man...

This is a sick frickin world and I will be dammed if I'll let some psychopath bludgeon me to death with a paddle on an Ozarks stream in the middle of no where just because I was too afraid of being teased about my manhood to bring along an equalizer.

I suppose if everyone was the type to keep quiet when an idiot is repeatedly tossing cans in the river (or whatever) then no one would have to worry about self preservation.. But the first time you have some 250lb muscle head and his three friends decide that you need to "mind your own business" and then beat the hell out of you when you don't just cower down and apologize, you'll change your mind about CCW. Cause yes, my friend feared for his life, and yes if he or his wife had had access to effective self protection then that horrible TRUE story would have never happened that way..

But you keep convincing yourself that your paddle and your carefully choreographed Billy Jack moves are enough to save your butt.. lol
