Ham Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 Title pretty much says it all. Whats on the fishing to-do list for this year? Mine are: 1. Become a more capable fly fisherman and tier. 2.Fish one of Missouris wild trout waters. 3.Catch a Pickeral and at least get some casts in chasing Muskies. 4. Catch a Brook trout since they are the only trout in the area I havent caught (if anyone has tips for where the best place to find one that would be great haha) Also where do brookies in the area come from? are they raised in a hatchery in state? Quarry Park. They stock in October so I would try to fish November or December. They only stock 15,000 a year. Little knucklehead brookies get caught over and over running a hooking mortality guanlet AND big brown trout snack on them. Tough double whammy to face everyday. ColdWaterFshr Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 honestly, what kind of sicky sets fishing goals for a coming year? sickies, thats who
ozark trout fisher Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 Sure thing. Here's one article. http://mdc.mo.gov/ne...ntrol-parasites I'm pretty sure I originally read about it in the Conservationist, but I'm not 100% sure on that, but either way, it's been 6 months, so I'm guessing the actual Brook Trout should be around by now from the sounds of it. Now if they will let you fish them, that's the real question. Very interesting! Thanks for the link.
Members DaveMac Posted February 6, 2012 Members Posted February 6, 2012 Catch a smallie on a flyrod. Get back to the Spring River for the first time in 20 years.
Trout Commander Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 1) Take my son from roll casting to overhand casting and teach him to mend if he is still interested in fly fishing this summer. 2) Chase some toothy critters. 3) Practice my own casting so I can stay ahead of the curve if #1 takes off so I don't get out done by a five year old. 4) Build on fiberglass blanks. 5) Build a switch rod. 6) Become proficient with said switch rod. 7) Spend solid DAYS perusing temperates. 8) Fish new water. 9) Fish more often 10) Take more and better pictures and video. In no particular order after #1... I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack
stlfisher Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 Mine would be to catch more smallmouth on a fly rod and catch more big brown's. Picked up a 7 weight over the weekend to chuck the bigger bugs.
Daryk Campbell Sr Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 I really like Greasy B's list. Myself... Just to get out as much as I can with the kids. Simple. Money is just ink and paper, worthless until it switches hands, and worthless again until the next transaction. (me) I am the master of my unspoken words, and the slave to those that should have remained unsaid. (unknown)
OzarksRiverman Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 Don’t concern myself with catching the most or biggest fish, just fish that live in beautiful places. I like this one. I'd also like to take my first overnight trip as well.
OKFlyFisher44 Posted February 7, 2012 Posted February 7, 2012 Really looking forward to this year of fishing. Have lots of hopes and dreams. I checked 1 of my goals off this weekend on the White by putting a 20" brown in the drift boat. My other goals are: -Take my daughter fishing more with the fly rod -Take my wife and daughters on a float trip in the drift boat -Fish more than last year -Catch a 18" smallie on top -Catch a 22" or bigger brown -Catch a 20" or bigger McCloud rainbow -Get back into tying more -Do another overnight float trip on Kings or Buffalo River in the drift boat -Hit the striper run on the Arkansas and Lower Illinois harder -Hit the hopper bite on the White harder -Fish the 11 point, Little Red, and one of the other wild trout creeks Yeah...that will pretty much do it. Chance ...I'm haunted in my dreams of waters I have yet to fish and trout I have yet to catch... Chasing the Dream...
