3/2 And 3/3 At Gastons

Guys, I'm not being snobbish. I just prefer to fly fish. I enjoy it more than spin fishing. The guys that I'm fishing with this week are like minded and we have fun challenging and helping each other. We've all had our share of big fish on spin tackle, however, the feel of a big fish on a fly rod is a different experience and that is what we are chasing. The only Zen we'll be experiencing is SNOO'Zen when we ain't fishin. :)

My only expense for this trip is license and food and some gas. Everything else is paid for. I lucked in to the rooms at Gaston's because a business trip fell through for my Brother and these rooms were already paid for. I have a timeshare deal where I pay around $60 per month and I can stay at the resort in Branson anytime that I want.

Nice Fish, JoeD! So far, my biggest on the fly rod is 7.5 lbs and 26 in.

No offense intended DaddyO. I was once a FF C&R snob, it was just a stupid phase I was going through. An old friend cured me by spending a day showing me how to catch bluegill with a cricket and bobber. I too prefer a fly rod but I enjoy many forms of sport fishing. Good luck on your trip, I'd love to read a report.

if they are not running too much water you can walk the trail behind the cabins down to the shoals and wade fish there. I also like to drive down to the white hole access and the entire bank on on either side of the launching area is always great. You can also cross over the other side and fish wildcat shoals farther down if the water is not too swift.

Look at John Berry's reports, John, Gary Flippin and Davy Wooten are Masters of fishing the water with Fly Rods, no matter what CFS, it is a bit tricky, using the correct set ups and correct weight. I have lived in this drainage all of my life and have to say these Gentlemen(possibly loose use of the term should have used fishermen) are the best, you can fish fly rods and weight to achieve the correct drift. You can do yourself a favor and hire them as guides, but they will all share more information than most can understand.

We fished TaneyComo Thursday night, for a couple of hours, using black Hibernators. Picked up several fish, but, nothing of any size.

Drove to Gastons Friday morning and unloaded our luggage. Then drove over to Norfork to fish. It wasn't as crowded as I thought it would be. Fish were caught on #14 Hair and Copper, #18 Black Zebra Midges, White Wooly Buggers, Olive Wooly Buggers, Elk Hair Caddis and Crackle Backs. We lost track of the number of fish that we caught.

Fished the trophy area Saturday morning. We had problems keying in on what was working until one of the guys, in our threesome, started slamming them on an Olive Wooly Bugger. I switched to an Olive Mohair Leech and it was game on! We were catching nice fish on every cast. (No monsters)

We took a break for lunch and then went back out and fished the runs just up river from the boat ramp at BSSP. The fish were really stacked up in that area. I started by fishing an Olive PMS and immediately picked up fish. After about the 10th fish, they turned off on that. Since my brother was slamming them on every cast using the Hair and Copper, I switched to that. Again, game on with the Hair and Copper and I was picking up fish on every cast.

We fished until it got dark and then we went to get something to eat. We decided to go back to that same area after we finished eating. My brother and I tried different patterns under a lighted indicator with nothing to show for it. The 2 other guys that were with us were stripping Black Hibernators and slamming them. We switched out our rigs and started stripping black Hibernators also and it was game on, again! My brother caught a 16 inch brown female and a 17 inch brown male. Lots of rainbows were caught with a few being larger than the browns.

We couldn't have asked for a better trip. The water cooperated and the weather did to, although the wind was a little trying at times. I'm estimating that we caught and released about 700 - 800 fish between the 5 of us from Thursday night to Saturday night.
