Greasy B Posted March 12, 2012 Posted March 12, 2012 That's a long way. When Art turns the tag in will they give him the fish's history? We looked real close for gig scars, fortunately none of the fish we caught had any. Haris122 Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Don't know much about how obvious the tags are placed on the fish, but how likely is it that it had been caught and moved inside say a livewell by someone at least part of that distance?

Well, this is the second tagged fish caught in the area and I doubt someone would want to give up $75, so I think that is unlikely. "Honor is a man's gift to himself" Rob Roy McGregor
Greasy B Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 The only way you could not see the tag would be to not look at the fish. How could you not admire such a fish? joeD Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Great fish guys. Seems some big ones are coming out. I also went fishing Sunday, on the upper Meramec, in less than ideal conditions. Unfortunately, neither my partner nor I brought a camera or phone, expectations being low, given the conditions. Ten minutes into the float, and my second fish, I caught a 4.2 pound hog (weighed). Thwart measurement was around 20 inches, maybe a little more, maybe a little less. But the girth was incredible, very heavy, with a HUGE gaping maw. Sorry no pix. (yeah yeah yeah. no pic no fish). Really, if Mitch or Al wouldn't have posted, and Greasy, I wouldn't have said anything. Seems weird/cool that we all caught big fish in basically the same timeframe. White Superfluke, natch. BTW: Struggling with VCU.

LarrySTL Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 All of you know you're making me incredibly jealous, right ? Maybe I'll get my chance this weekend.. If you see me I'll be the guy with the store tags still on the waders ! Or if it gets any warmer, maybe I'll be back in swim trunks pretty soon. LOL http://intervenehere.com
Haris122 Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 Really, if Mitch or Al wouldn't have posted, and Greasy, I wouldn't have said anything. All right. I'll join in too. So last Saturday I went out to the Meramec at Route 66 State Park, and caught a monster of a 7" I believe spotted bass. (Sorry couldn't help myself, but it was right as I was leaving, so even if it was a tiny fish, it made my day) And I know spotted ones aren't most people's cup of tea, but I still let it go.
Al Agnew Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Legally speaking, you have to let them go now since the season on all stream black bass is closed. Personally, I think that's unfortunate. I wish they'd allow you to keep the spotted bass in the Meramec river system year round. Of course, I really wish that it was mandatory that you kill them, but I know that'll never happen.
