pvspmo Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 Found a few here at the house just south of Rogersville today. Rolled in crushed saltine crackers and fried in butter........ not too bad with a big ole ribeye on the grill!
jdmidwest Posted March 26, 2012 Posted March 26, 2012 So far, hunted Wayne, Cape Girardeau, and St. Francois Counties at known spots, nothing. Spent the weekend in St. Francois County this weekend, dog woods are blooming there. Things are really greening up there. Maybe this week. BilletHead Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 Hit three of the patches today, last try was Sunday afternoon. One spot nothing but the other places had some. 21 in those places. Then a friend/neighbor came by and asked if I wanted to hunt a spot of his, sure you bet ya I will go. We found more, ticks too. When he dropped me off he gave up his shrooms too, what a guy! 50 some was the total. Quiche was on the menu tonight. A simple mix of morels, onion and scrambled egg in a pie crust. Yum-o I know we all like them battered and fried but I can anly take so much grease in my system so this is a good option. I like them sauteed too just in butter but there you go again sometimes hard on the gut. Simple tasty dinner though. Get them while you can we know they might not last long. jdmidwest Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 Finally found some today, about a dozen in a usual spot. Another spot did not produce a one yet. Dad called in a find of more than a dozen at the farm when he started mowing the yard. Today's find was getting dryed out. Temps are high and no rain since Thurs here. Left a beer can size yeller out for seed, too far gone. Cloudy, rainy days are coming this week. It should get them going. brother dave Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 RPS, thats a fantastic recipe suggestion. Really got me beating the bushes to find my next fix of shrooms I shop at the outdoor grocery store
ness Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 Anybody got any tried-and-true tick/chigger prevention methods? I ended up with a bunch of ticks and chigger bites last weekend despite healthy doses of poisonous chemicals applied directly to my skin. One friggin tick showed up talking a stroll on my leg Tuesday morning -- two days after the fact. Any advice welcome. Better chemicals? Body condoms? John

BilletHead Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 Best thing I have found is something with Permethrin in it. Repel permanone is one product that has it. You do not put it on your skin but spray clothes and let it dry. I have put a live tick on my pants and watched it spin in circles and die, yes die dead. Our Wal-mart used to carry it but quit. It is bad stuff I am sure but so is tick born illness, BilletHead "We have met the enemy and it is us", Pogo If you compete with your fellow anglers, you become their competitor, If you help them you become their friend" Lefty Kreh " Never display your knowledge, you only share it" Lefty Kreh "Eat more bass and there will be more room for walleye to grow!"
