Duck Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 I keep a daily log for white bass fishing, by March 21 in 2009 we caught 228, in 2010 we had 452, and in 2011 we had 199. This year so far we only have 15, can't figure it out. Water temps are in the low to mid 50's, even up the White near Hausmans it is 50. Should be good, maybe next week. Good luck. Duck
vonreed Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 With all this warm weather we've had this winter and this super warm week now, I think it's got "people" in the mood to fish, but the fish know when it's time to come up and they will probably start picking up here pretty soon.
fishinwrench Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 Not sure about the Table Rock tribs, but up here it takes a good rain that swells the creeks a bit to trigger a mass migration. All the other elements and "signs" can be on, but until we get that Spring gullywasher it just doesn't happen.
Jason Essary Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 Boys, u said the key. We need current. If the james comes up a foot from a rain, the whites will rush as high as they can go. Friend told me he hit a huge school around point 15 the other day, then they were gone. Tells me they are still staging and just waiting for temp and current (temp already good). Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 16, 2012 Root Admin Posted March 16, 2012 Point 15 was the spot. I heard about it AFTER I looked for them on Tuesday. Also the flat about 1.5 - 2.0 miles above 76 bridge- same day. Both parties were trolling. Both caught tons of whites in quick fashion- lots of 3-4 lb sows.
Seth Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 I white bass fished a little bit wednesday evening and only caught a few There was a small pocket of them at Longs Camp and I caught five in just a few minutes and then nothing.
mmirg Posted March 17, 2012 Posted March 17, 2012 Me and two of my boys fished on wed night also. We put in around 3:30 and took out at about 7:30. We did some trolling and Some casting . We ended up with 5 whites, a short walleye, a channel cat that hit a swimming minnow, and a kentucky. We used swimming minnows, silver/white spinners, and rapallas with equal results from each. Fished from taylor shoals to mccord. Had a guy tell me the water temp was 67°. Saw a couple of guys catching them right at dark with live minnows. The whites were a mix of big sows and smaller males.
Members CollegeFish86 Posted March 18, 2012 Members Posted March 18, 2012 I was up by blunk last night and caught a few. I have been catching them slowly but surely every time but not in the numbers like last year. Water temps last night for me was 58*. The sows that I cleaned were full of eggs and the eggs were bloody. I def think that the current might have a little to do with it as well. A little running water never hurts!
Members Crappie Fisherman Posted March 18, 2012 Members Posted March 18, 2012 The whites are still in the main lake. Was down around Cape Fair Saturday, the flats across from the marina and towards the main lake were boiling with whites surfacing. Talked to some guys who were hammering them on A-rigs.
Flippin Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 I fished the Cape Fair area on Saturday and found some whites busting the top. I ended up catching little bit of everything on the swimming minnow.
