Mitch,

Your ever run your boat up through that shoal at Glenco?

The farthest down river I have been is a mile or so upstream of Glencoe.

Before spots replaced smallies the stretch from Times Beach boat ramp to just below Glencoe was big fish water, lots of ledges and boulders. I wonder if it's worth trying now? It's been along time but I recall when the water is low the shoal is a real boat eater. There was a sand pit across the river from an old sunken barge there that was a good crappie spot too. It's funny how I've drifted away from the places occupied so much of my time in the past.

I'll supply the boat, and you supply the fishing spots, Deal? Let's do it!

It's also funny how a person asks where to bank fish on the lower Meramec turns into boating invitations for a couple people who don't even bother to address the original question. Yes, I get it. It's a forum, and threads go on tangents. Yes, I realize it's about you. No big whup. Still.

Hey you moroooon! If you look about 5 posts up you will see a map that I gave the original poster pointing out a good spot to wade/bank fish, now stay off the sauce when posting and completely read the post. :) :)

In the dead low water of late summer, early fall much of this water could probably be waded or bank fished. It would take some effort and bush whacking. (Thread true and straight).

For much the same reasons it probably would fish best from a boat in low water. (Thread tangent).

Now did that really hurt that bad?

Much thanks to all from the original poster. I don't mind the tangents at all, I'm pretty prone to those myself. I'll come back on here and report when I go try some of these places out this summer.

Matt, don't let the spooky stories scare you from the Meramec. There are plenty of fish in the lower Meramec and I think it's cool you are actually willing to try. The holes Mitch gave you a map of are no lie, they hold Walleye and Bass. The area of Sherman at the end of Cresent rd. there is an access you have to walk to but, you can access above Lone Elk park across stream from Castlewood. This area I have caught all three species of Black bass and in the deep pool there are Walleye. On the opposite side of the river out of Glencoe as Mitch graciously exposed the Walleye hole there you can proceed down stream to Castlewood and catch fish.....the home of Zombie road.

Greasy is correct there is a sunken small barge on the northern shore thru there with a dreged out series of flood holes on the sherman side of the river and when the water levels are right you can get your boat in to them and the fishing can be darn good. It may be polluted but there are fish to catch and please report back on your trips thats what this forum was made from. I don't care if it's a dirty river and people don't think there's fish in there I want some reports with pics :have-a-nice-day:

just kidding Matt.....have fun on your breaks exploring....theres some cool stuff to see down in that dirty dangerous river.

I've waded Rt66 before, from about mid park (where the parking lot is) up to about halfway to the old bridge. The water was pretty far down when I did this and I could wade just about to halfway out in the river and it was just up to the middle of my thighs. There's some pretty strong current and I had trouble keeping my footing once I got up towards the bridge, there's a pretty strong riffle right there. Didn't catch any fish though, but then again, at the time I didn't really know how to fish a river (other than for trout with a fly rod)...Up until this recent rain we had a week or so ago when the river was really low I would think that you could wade the entire length of the park. Just remember there's no clear cut path to get to the river except for near the bridges and the boat ramp...I had to bush whack and scale down the bank to get to the river from that parking lot area inside the park...

Sorry Mitch. I'm like Otis the town drunk on Mayberry RFD. I'll just go over here and "lock" myself up. As always, keep Barney Fife weapon-free. We don't want just anyone walking around with a gun now do we?
