I live 15 minutes from the KCK Cabelas, even bought my Ranger there.

Hopefully they will stock a more local selection at your store. Up here it is sort of "yankee-fied", if you understand. Walleye spinners, gear for up north "lifetime" trips, etc. Great if you are heading out after salmon or muskie. They have bass gear but not like at BPS. Pretty interesting firearm department though. If you watch that area you can haul some great deals.

I live 15 minutes the other way. I agree on the tackle -- everything you need for fishing Minnesota, and most of what you need close to home. The gun library, and used gun sections suck me right in. Fly shop is just so-so.

Looking forward to being able to examine catalog items in person when the urge comes...Been a Cabela's customer for years no matter where we've lived...and we've lived all over the world.

But still will shop locally. Southtown Sporting Goods, Pack Rat., Uncle Sam's, McClellan's , Hook. Line, and Sinker all will continue to get our biz.

And so will Academy...Hope a little competition between them will result in good prices on top quality gear..

Walmart selections seem to get slimmer and slimmer..and mostly low end stuff, though that varies store to store for some reason.

You may not have the opportunity to shop locally. Many of the smaller shops will almost certainly go out of business once the big box stores move in.

People said that when Sportsmens warehouse moved in. Yes im sure it hurt the bussiness short term, but in the long run it is hard to beat the selection of baits and knowledge the local stores have but more important, they know their clients by name and treat them like a person. I have never seen a box store compete with that.

Its the ( BASS )Syndrome!!!! Beaver is more know for its Stripers then even the BASS but its the Bass that get all the tackle shops! You go to any fo the local shops and the selection on tackle for Striper is Pathetic! I buy online more than shop local because of this! The shops are loosing thousands a year not catering to the Walleye and Striper fishermen. This is NOT a poor area people can afford good quality gear and would buy local if it was here IMO. I personaly have spent well over 6grand this year on hunting and fishing gear online vs local simply because they dont carry it. Sure they tell me they can order it and like I tell them SO CAN I!

I actually thought real hard about getting a p/t job there so I can get the employee discount, kind of like I thought real hard about working for Wal-Mart, even just a stocker p/t, so I get to use their tennis center!!!!

I know it's going to put a hurt on the wallet when they do open!!!!

I put in an application online and have an interview for the 22nd.....discounts, meeting people who fish..sounds win, win.

I for one miss Sportsmans. I may be an minority but I loved the smell of the store when I walked in. (haha) I was happy to be in a sporting goods store and the bait selection was incredible. They prices were great when they first opened but when they were hurting, they raised their prices a little. It just got worse. I still miss the store though. It was a fun experience.

I'm sure I will enjoy the new Cabelas too. I've only been in one and that was in Dallas and it's a little bigger than this one. Maybe the same size? I know their selection was CRAZY good and prices were good too. Problem is, I will be their too often.

I LOVE supporting my local shops though. They often have better stuff that is taylored to the lake. As for striper gear, being a total NEWB to that area, that would be a great value. I hope to get into that more in the next coming years.

Oh, I heard they are opening in late June. KNowing construction...........this is a push. I bet they can meet the schedule for June but getting the store fulling setup, stocked, staff trained, etc. on a store this large, that is a very tall order. I'm thinking July at least!
