It isn't cheap, but its not out of line with any other part of the country. Silver Dollar City is expensive also, but you can be entertained all day there.

I might add the Branson Bell to the list also.

Did the Belle for our daughter's 9th birthday a couple years ago. Good time, but they still had the dog show going then. No idea on the new show.

one thing we really enjoy is taking a lake cruise up to Koppie's at Cape Fair or to as my kids call it "the carp place" at Campbell Point. We've gravitated towards Cape Fair 3 out of 4 times for the last year (twice at Koppies so far this year)...but the eating on the water followed by a nice lake cruise home is a welcome change.

I'll vouch for the Steak Inn in Shell Knob. Ate there many times and it's excellent.

Used to be a place called Tucker's Inn on 39 just south of Viola. It's not there anymore but the chef who owned it now has a place in the mini-strip mall behind the Bank of America in SK. His food was top of the line at Tucker's. I haven't been to his new place. He cooked at the Port Grille at Campbell's Point also.

"Eureka is a good place to pick up some Arkansas wines and run them back across the line. Just don't let Jesus see on the way out of town."

That has to be one of the best lines I have read in awhile :secret-laugh: So if he doesnt see you then it isnt bad?? If that is the case boy am I going to have some fun in the dark!

I would also recommend Billy Gayles (SP) for breakfast.....pancakes bigger than my head and I have a big head!

Here are some more fun things to do in the Branson area:

-stroll through the Wal-Mart in Branson West for some great people-watching! You will see it all, including black knee-socks with sandals, spandex galore, and almost certainly a guy with cut-off overalls, work boots and a wife-beater T-shirt. And that's just the greeters! Wait until you get to the Housewares Department!

-Drive around the neighborhoods to see the Christmas lights. I know it's almost June, but it's tradition around here to leave them up year-round.

-Visit any public boat ramp and watch the brand new 18' Bayliners being towed by the Lexus Hybrid SUV's. Great fun to watch them launch or load!

-Rent a jetski, take it out on the lake at 6 AM and wave to the Fishermen as you buzz by them on every main lake point. Be careful, though, cause some of those ole boys can heave an Alabama rig a long way!

We were just at Branson a month ago and had not been there for a while. So we found part of our days taken up exploring some areas and finding some things that you might enjoy if you are on a budget.

  1. Branson Landing Area - This is anchored by Belk on one end and Bass Pro on the other with a little bit of everything in between. On the hour there is a free outdoor show with water fountains, gas flames, all to music on the strip.
  2. Malls - Tangier(?) and several craft malls in the area if that suits your interest.
  3. Old downtown Branson - Number of stores to explore, our favorite being Dick's Five and Dime.
  4. Cookies and Creamery - Nice place to top off that meal with your favorite diet busting desert in a '50s style diner.

One of the forum moderators had expressed some concern about my post above.

Sorry if any of you were offended by my post. Certainly, that was not my intention.

I love this area as I grew up here, and moved back several years ago.

Anyone who knows me will tell you that my sense of humor is often self-deprecating.

If you saw me at Wal-Mart, you might get a chuckle at what I was wearing?

My next-door neighbor does keep his Christmas lights up year-round.

Several others on this forum have joked about the 'newbies' on the boat ramps. I was a newbie once, some 35 or 40 years ago.

And, we all have been annoyed by a jetski or power boat screaming by us early in the morning while we're trying to fish.

The meth lab comment, while sad, but true, probably was a poor choice. (I will delete it)

I live here and I took it as a light hearted response. I didn't see the meth comment, did the state lose its competative edge?
